I enjoyed your site so very much!I don't know much about my Danish heritage. My great great grandfather Frederick L. Morrison was born in Denmark 8 May 1867. But I don't know anything else about his Danish family or who he came to the USA with. The 1910 census says he came to the USA in 1880. The 1930 Census says he came to the USA in 1878. He married Harriet Ballinger a NYC Quaker. I haven't found their marriage certificate yet. He was a large man with a handlbar mustache. I have three photos of him. He worked on the Union Hill Trolley Union City, NJ as a Motor Man. He died 17 November 1942 in Jersey City, NJ where they lived most of their married life. He also drove a barge on the St. Lawrence River in the early years of his marriage. Their first child my great grandmother Jennie Morrison Nell was born on the barge. I am guessing that his original name was Mortensen.

My grandmother used to take me to work with her in the 40's and 50's to a place called the Danish Seaman's Room. Home cooked meals were served to the sailors from the Danish ships at Dock. I greatly enjoy your newsletter and reading about the exploits of the Danes in Perth Amboy. I was raised in the Dublin section of Perth Amboy and knew the Rosenvinge family from Watson Ave. I believe Mr. Bill Rosenvinge was the original owner of the Dublin Diner, originally located at 330 Smith St., Perth Amboy. My Grandfather owned Cowboy John's Tavern, which was next door at 328 Smith St. I will be constructing a model of the Dublin Diner in 1:48 scale. Unfortunately, I do not have any photos of the Dublin Diner. If anyone has some, I would greatly appreciate copies. I will gladly pay for costs and postage if not able to place in e-mail. My Mother told me that when she was a little girl, she and her friend would make mud pies in front of Mr. Rosenvinge's bakery, which was located in a one story low building in the vicinity of 311 Watson Ave. and Mr. Rosenvinge would "bake" their mud pies in his oven.
He was loved by all. I was fortunate to know him and his son Jack. I currently live in California or I would visit your location often. My wife and I had the privilege of visiting the Danish home when we returned to Perth Amboy for my 50th anniversary of the graduating class of 1956 from Perth Amboy High School. I was a very good friend of Norman Seguine, the brother of Joan Seguine-LeVine.

Great work you are all doing. I've been to Perth Amboy's archives to look up everything I could find for our family. My great-grandfather was Christian A Christiansen -b Sept 1862. He may be of Danish descent but he comes from Kopervik, Norway. His Norge name is Kristian Kristensen. He married Georgine Pedersen (b 1862) in Kopervik about 1885 and had 4 children in Norway before coming to America around 1894. The family lived at 25 Hobart St Perth Amboy. They had 4 more childern in the USA. Georgine died of chidbirth complications giving birth to my grand-mother 24 Feb 1899. Georgine is buried in Alpine Cemetery in an unmarked grave - appears to be a poor section in the SW corner.
Any information that anyone can share about the Perth Amboy Norwegian community, I would very much appreciate.
Were there Norwegian Lutheran Churchs in Perth Amboy or did most Scandinavians attend the same Churchs?

My father was a merchant Marine and was in the Danish Navy. His first arrival to Ellis Island was in 1926. Remained on the Sea until I was 3 years old in 1954. I have one cousin Paul Larsen who I do not know if he ever moved here. He was still at sea when I was a child. I believe my grandfather Jens Christiophersen had a brother that came to Perth Amboy. But my grandfather died in 1942 when I was only 4 years old. However from what I remember from my Dad is that this brother may have been killed in a construction accident at a very young age leaving a young widow and small children. I do have in my possession a picture of a young child taken in a Perth Amboy studio. I assume this could be a maybe a cousin to my dad. We have no background on my grandfather other than he was born in Copenhagen, Denmark. Also that he had a sister Anna who had a daughter named Gerda.
I would love to be in contact with anybody who could enlighten me on this issue. I reside in a small Danish community in New Brunswick, Canada.

There is little on Jorgen in our family records - I'm not sure even where he was buried in Perth Amboy. I saw that you have some family materials on him and "Carrie" as she was called by her friends and I would be interested in seeing what might be available.

Yesterday I located census records from Puerto Plata, Domincan Republic for the years 1875 and 1879 listing my Great, Great Grandparents and my Great grandfather. It stated my great, great grandfather as German and my Great, Great Grandmother as Danish. Their son is listed as Dominican. in 1875 it lists her as Mery Govin age 19 and Theodor Govin age 2 and for 1879 as Maria Robaine 24 and Teodoro 5. They do not appear in the 1871 census. In the 1875 census My great great grandfather is listed simple as Mr Rostchild from germany but in 1879 the listing shows H. Rothschilds. Another listing in 1879 for the business lists a German Rochil 35, from Denmark. I have also noticed that in their '79 census the ages of H. and Maria are transposed.
I would assume that they must have gotten to the Caribbean via one of the East coast port in United States. Could you please help me locate the ships manifests and potentially where my great great grandmother may have been born. I have already requested to see if I could access the written census' for the Dom. Rep. in order to see if I have better luck decephering the surname(s).

My husband's great grandfather, Niels Madsen and his wife, Johanna Berthelsen, were supposed to have come to Portland Maine because they had an Uncle living there as the Danish Consul. This would have been sometime during the period of our Civil War. I wrote to Portland but was not able to find out any useful information. Niels apparently was in the Army of the the North and then deserted to go back to Denmark and fight in the Danish Army in the war with Germany over Sleswig Holstein. When he returned here he changed the name to Madison. At least that is how the story goes. Any suggestions on following up on this would be greatly appreciated.
