I grew up in Kennett, and attended school there. After I moved to Friendship, I was transferred to Holcomb School, but I have a lot of good memories at the Kennett Schools, and would love to hear from old friends from there. My name was Alice Morris.

Comments:
My grandmother Corinne O'Brien graduated from Kennett High School around 1914 -1916, not sure. Sure would love to see pictures of her is there are any. Corinne's sister Stella and Opal and brother Loyola may have also attended. John Henry O'Brien (Corinne's father) owned O'Brien Merchantile Co. in Bacoda and owned a farmhouse somewhere around there. Sure would love to here from anyone who may know anything.

My KHS Interests Two of my aunts graduated from KHS in the late 20's
Comments:
My Aunt Lillian Taylor Richards is a 1927 (I think) graduate of Kennett High School. She turns 100 years old on October 24, 2004 and I am putting together a memory book for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren! I have been trying to find a picture of Kennett High School to use in the book, preferably from the early days - 1930's or so.

My mother, Louise Taylor Jenkins would have graduated as valedictorian in 1929, but they moved to Potosi, Missouri and my aunt Lurlene Taylor graduated prior to 1927, so I have a 'vested' interest in the school.

Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.

My KHS Interests childhood memories
Comments:
Was c/o 1974 but moved to Memphis after my freshman year after living my first 14 years in Kennett. I look back on my childhood and have such fond memories of school, church and swim team. I was so "backassward" and niave, but that was life in Kennett. Boy did I change in Memphis. Maybe that is why I think back to my innocent days in Kennett so often. The friends I grew up are so special to my memories.
The late 60's music always brings me back to Kennett. I remember my first dance behind Bank of Kennett~ slow dancing to Hey Jude. My first Kiss... and Hayrides down country roads. Battle of the bands at the skating rink. I'm sure I may leave names out, but these are the friends I remember most whenever I think of my childhood: Denise McGehee, Judy Sturgeon, Marvin Alsup, Jessie Williams, Debbie Lack, Laura Jones, Meg Benson, Debbie Smith, Becky and Debbie Robinett, Doug Howard, Theresa McGehee, Randy Dalton, Hank Sturch, Mark and Riley Huffstutler, and Family friends and neighbors like the Jeffries, the Fenders, the Tinkers, the Taylors, and others I can visualize but can't name... So many! I love you all and would probably relive all of it again if I could. Kennett was a great place to grow up! Thanks for a wonderful childhood~

I attended KHS during my Freshman, Sophomore, and beginning my Junior year and then we moved away. I really enjoyed going to school in Kennett. I was born there in 1947, and after marriage, my husband, Cleatie Sharp, and I moved back to Kennett, and our four children all graduated from KHS. My two youngest, Sarah(class of 99) and Jeff(class of 95) were very involved in the music programs, choir and band. They loved growing up in Kennett, and going to school at KHS.
The friends I remember most were Freda Fowler, Judy Huskey, and Norma Wakefield. I hope they are all well, and enjoying a good life. I have lots of friends in Kennett, all ages, and I hope to visit from time to time. I am now remarried and living in Mississippi. I would love to hear from anyone who remembers me. Nellie

I. Research on rats at the city dump for English class... and the co-captains of the football team holding hands in the back seat of the station wagon (Kay's I think).

II. Getting shot at in Dan's car, stopped by the State Troopers, and being more afraid of waking the "Judge," (Dan's Dad) and having to explain it all to him.

III. Halloween 1961 - Carolyn and I being tied up with a clothes line and left on the English Teacher's porch in the dark. We were rescued by the Teacher and his gracious new wife who served (even the guys who left us) hot chocolate.

Just that the class of 48 was my family, my true friends. My memorys of Mitz Cherry and Thelma Redman, the teachers I will never forget. They will always be in my memory, they will live with me forever. Mr Cherry made me run up and down the stairs so many times for punishment that I had every step named. Miss Redman taught me math that I will never forget and I passed it on to my kids and grand kids. Kennett to me was a slow town, no one got in a hurry, always had time to stop and talk to you, that made true friends. I was born and raised in Kennett and it will always be my home town. I went to all twelve grades of school there and it will always be my school. Gerald (Jerry) Poe

I have memories of our days in the North Ward School and am glad to see they are using it again. Climbing those worn stairs where many other feet had passed by, and arriving on the top floor where the high school lived, are good things to remember. We still had our big dreams and enjoyed seeing our friends every morning. The years passed by all too fast for me, although I doubt that I felt that way then.

Our class of 1948 has been a close one and try to keep track of everyone through the years. Sometimes we would lose track of someone, but eventually they would come back around full circle.

The one sad note that I think of often now, is the gradual loss of members of our class. It is a reminder of our mortal selves and that we, too, one day will join that group.

My best friends in school were Carmalita Reagan and Luna Young. We had good times together. We managed to keep that bond going through all the many years until dear Luna was afflicted with Alzheimers Disease. That saddens me a lot, but we just never know what lies ahead.

To anyone that comes across this, I hope I might have known you in school. If not, we are still connected by that bond of being a part of KHS once upon a time.

Most Sincerely,
Nancy Taylor Pope

I have some very good memories from my time in the Kennett school system. I think that I am one of the lucky ones because I started in the 1st grade and went all the way through the 12th grade, all in Kennett. The older that I get the more Kennett means to me, I sure do miss the laid back life in Kennett or at least it seems laid back to me now. Bill

Thanks to Don we now have a great guestbook along with the Memory Book of our deceased alumni of KHS.
Want to invite everyone to tell us what's happening in your life these days.
As for myself I'm staying busy working on several projects, I'm keeping a Roster of all the Alumni from KHS from 1940 thru the present, to include the snail mail & email addresses, to be used for contacting everyone on events happening for the KHS Alumni.
I have also started keeping a KHS Memory Book to include obits and information on our deceased members.
As one of the administrators of the KHS Alumni Website I stay busy adding new folks to the site and posting information interesting to all of us. If you are not registered on the site and would like to be just email me and I will send you an invitation.
If you have any information that would help me keep current on these projects would like to hear from you.
