Hello,McGown is my maiden name I have traced my ancestors back to scotland. The last known ancestor was John McGown he came America around 1700's. Greetings!
My name is Jacob Wade (age 17), and I, too, am of the McGowan line. I am thrilled to have found this web page, as I am very new to genealogical research. I currently live in Calloway County, Kentucky, and I am closely related to the McGowan descendants of Caldwell County (Amos McGowan was my great-great-grandfather). I believe that I have hound adequate research to prove that John Mackgowen was indeed the grandfather of William McGowan (and father of John Megoin), though it shall take a bit for me to get that organized. Regardless, I hope that I can be a useful member to this community of my very extended relatives!
As a side note, I have been teaching myself Scots Gaelic (Gaidhlig) off and on for about six months now. I'm still a novice, but I wanted to clarify that I do slightly understand Gailic!

I just wanted to thank you so much for this web site. This must have taken a lifetime to gather and put all this info up here and I've seen it is not limited to the McGowans either. I just recently began searching this line, it's my grandmother on my father's side. Harry Godby and Essie (granny) is Elfra Jane McGowan's daughter and she's Jame's daughter. Unfortunately the Godby line is all but lost but I will never give up, I've already found much more than I expected. Anyway, just wanted to send a note saying hi and thanks. Also thanks for the pics of the Kansas McGowans, I'll try to dig up some more of Elfra and Essie.

I actually stumbled onto the McGowan link while searching the Caldwell Co. records for Cavanaugh ancestors. I knew that Bryant McGowan was an ancestor on my mother's side. We were told he was part Native American. Up to this point, we did not know that our ancestor had come from NC.
