Just cking in after all these years. I think I have been thru many different emails, but will add my latest one:
sweetlipsfarm@yahoo.com yes, in the Chester Co. TN commmunity of Sweetlips. I used to research my Annebelle Bivens, born 1835, married to William Fuffin Stephens (also seen as Stevens), but like many, couldn't devote the time necessary. Anyway, this just to update my email should anyone want to contact me.
Our older son, Johnny Malone Jr. had been in Baghdad, Iraq, but made it home safely. And I have a granddaughter, Alexus Malone, age 4, by younger son, Jason Malone. So, the family continues.
happy researching to everyone,

Thirty five years of research and I am still batting zero on George W. Risner which might possibly be Wisener/Wisner?) I've tried every avenue there is. George W. Risner was born 1817 in TN according to later census' in the Choctaw Nation, now Bryan Co., OK. He married Mary Rebecca Bonner in Warren Co., TN, however the Marriage License is yet to be found. "Rebecca Bonner" is on the Cumberland Church Membership in Warren Co., TN as well as her mother and father but no mention of George W., her husband. Her first four children were born in Warren Co., TN and then they moved to TX just across the border from the Choctaw Indian Nation. By 1860, the whole family is residing in what became Bryan Co., OK. All documented records state George W. Risner was born in TN but I have yet to find one Tennessee record with his name on it. Any help appreciated and if any Wisener/Wisners recognize anything that might connect, I would like to compare records. George W. Risner is my 2nd Great Grandfather.

Thank you for your web site. Clydene

Johnson's, Johnson's all around, and no connection ! Oh well, its my brick wall. Really enjoyed your website, very well put together.
My Johnson came from Alabama and then to Texas. Married a Dovie Flatt in Kauffman, County, Texas 1894. Franklin Smith Johnson was his name. Where in Alabama, we do not know. His father was killed in the Civil War, they did not know when or where. His mother died quite young, and left h im with his uncles to raise. As soon as he became 21, he fled, they had stolen all of his property from him. Don't you love family history's. Ha

Thanks again, the only relations ship here is the Johnson that married into the Flatt family in Hardin County. My grandmother was a Flatt.

Hello,

I am from Goshen, NY and am a descendant of Henry Wisner. Some members of my family have researched the family ancestry though I confess I have not. My grandfather was a member if the Sons of the American Revolution and traced his ancestry to Henry Wisner. I grew up in the house that Henry lived in.

I see in your website that you claim Henry Wisner is from Florida, NY. This a town next to Goshen and, while I am by no means disputing your claim, Goshen at the very least claimed him as one of its own and somewhere along the line placed a memorial to him in town, in a very small square (I'd call it in the middle of a short by-road) directly in front of St. James Episcopal Church and next to the grounds of the Presbyterian Church, near the center of town.

I currently live in Chappaqua, NY with my own young family and when I have some time I look forward to exploring this further.

Thanks for sharing!

Tom Andrews

My families in Hardin County, Tennessee, were the Buie's, Byrd's (Bird), Nichols, Gibb's, Farrow (Farrer or Farrar), and possibly Cunningham's, Baily's, Clem's, Clift's, and Parkers. Many of these families left Hardin County in the 1840's, particularly the Buies, Nichols, and Gibb's families who migrated in 1847 to Hot Spring County, Arkansas. However some of the Gibbs, Nichols, and Woods (Wood) remained in Hardin County after 1850.
I know some of these people lived in the 7th and 3rd Civil Districts and owned at least a small amount of land on Horse Creek.
Some of the individual names that were in Hardin County before 1850 were: John Buie, John Buie, Jr., Duncan Buie, Cornelious Buie, James A. Nichols, died before 1830, his wife Mary Nancy ? , John R. Byrd (Bird), his wife, Susannah Nichols Bird, Solomon C. Nichols and his wife, Elizabeth Woods, William W. Buie and his wife Martha Farrow (Farrer or Farror), James Nichols, David Nichols, and Terry Nichols.

My ancestors came from VA to Newbury County, SC to Giles County, TN, then Pulaski Co, Ark. and some came on to Milam County, TX. I believe the family may have come from NC before moving to VA, and some of the family went to Alabama. I am looking for No Name Adams who married Sarah Jane Abernathy in TN, TX, NM. Their children, Zellie, Thomas Jefferson, 1873-1945, Charles James "Dick" (my maternal grandfather), 1885-1960, and Ethel, 1890-1978. Sarah Jane abernathy Adams, 1847-1936. One story has No Name living in the "hills" and only coming down to get Sarah pregnant. Another has him being hung for a horse thief abt 1890-1895. The names I heard were Chapel Hill or Powell's something - don't know where in TN these places are. Don't know when or where they were married It would help if I could find No Name's name. Don't even know Sarah's parents or siblings. Adams names back then won't help since I don't know No Name's parents or siblings either. Good luck on your search.

Enjoyed so much your comments on the Unknown Soldier. My ancestor served in 1813 with Jackson also and went to New Orleans. His name was James Norris. His wife was Elizabeth White, daughter of Daniel White of Williamson Co., Tn who was in the Rev. War. Do not know where any of these folks are buried. James had a large family by the time he died shortly after returning to Williamson Co. in 1814. How sad, as I have not been able to trace most of his family or for that matter his widow. The records are just not there or I just don't know where to look. I did get the records for James and his widow was interested in getting money for a horse that was killed while James was in the service of Jackson. I think she did get $3, no doubt was greatly appreciated in those days with so many young ones to care for. Their daughter Elizabeth Norris married Lewis Shephard and they lived in Williamson Co., until about 1840 when then moved to Hickman Co., there Lewis leaves a will and only names one son, Lewis Jr. I know how you feel with the lack of records and if you have any suggestions for
me in my research of the Tennessee Co.s would greatly appreciate your help. Thank you so much again for your time and comments. A fellow genealogist of the State of Tennessee. Pat Scherzinger

Dear Ed,

I've read your site with interest trying to find out more
information about my own roots. Thank you for all the hard
work you've done. My great granddaddy, John STRAWN, b.5/20/
1843 or 1844, Crump, Hardin Co.,TN son of Loyd STRAWN, b.
1805, d.1880, was a CSA veteran serving with "PHILLIPS'
LIGHT ARTILLERY COMPANY" organized Oct 15, 1861 in Crump,TN.

John's first campaign was "SHILOH" having been summoned
from Corinth where the artillery company had first gone. He
was a neighbor of the Roderick Gaines WICKER family, and
married Mary Lucrecia WICKER on her 14th birthday,12/25/1868
They had two children: Loyd Gaines STRAWN, b.12/24/1869(my
grandaddy), and Margaret Artisia STRAWN, b.10/17/1871, both
in Crump, Hardin Co.,TN.

John STRAWN was supposidly killed in a hunting accident
sometime in 1871 near Crump, thus widowing Mary Lucrecia,at
17, who eventually relocated to the San Angelo, TX area c.
1874, and marrying a Pleasant Lafayette MONTGOMERY. She is
burried in San Angelo, TX. Her son, Loyd Gaines STRAWN is
burried in Hondo, TX (a high ranking Mason), and John STRAWN
is buried at Ledbetter Cemetery, Hardin Co.,TN. His government issue headstone is inscribed "JOHN STRAWN TENN LT
ARTY CSA 1844 1871", with the Southern Cross of Honor also
inscribed on the top. I assume he won the medal, but have
not yet found out for sure. Also, I haven't been able as yet
to find out any information as to John & Mary's wedding, or
John's exact cause of death and date. Perhaps there might be
some old newspaper articles. I have a photograph of Mary
Lucrecia, and children, but none of John.

If you might find any parallels to your research, I would
greatly appreciate any information you might supply!

Sincerely,

John K. Strawn

Hello; Very nice constructed web site, enjoyed it. Saw the obits of the Churchwells in Savannah newspaper. These people are related to me. We all desc from Richard Churchwell Sr. b abt 1740 in Va.migrated to Lincoln Co. Ky. then to Maury Co. We desc from his son Richard Jr. who reared a large family in Wayne Co. Tn.
As for Henderson Co. Tn. Charles Pope ,my gggfather left Wake Co. NC. abt 1805 with wife and three little girls, he migrated to Robertson Co. Tn. Got into trouble there in 1816 and 1824, think he liked the females to much. In 1828 the entire family moved to Henderson Co. Tn. They settled in the Rocksprings Methodist Church area. My ggparent m in Henderson Co. in 1844. Abt four of the childen left Henderson Co. in the 1860's after Charles died in abt 1850, they moved to Dyer Co. where I live. Joseph Arnold who died a couple of years ago m Martha ? who was reared in the Rockspring Church area, build a house down the hill from the church, then found that he was living on land his ggfather had owned in Henderson Co.
I have been to Lexington trying to find information on my Pope line but only found one old book at the court house, I wonder if they have any information in the library there that dates back to 1828 thru the 1860's
Thanks for the Churchwell Obits....Grover Pope

Ed, loved going through the obit summaries and reading the lost soldier story. Our family history search is quit the adventure if you have any imagination at all and very educational, makes me want to turn some of this knowledge into a History degree and write. We've been in contact before, Ggrandfather William G. Adams, GG- James C. Adams, Hardin Co., then Missouri. Also, Ggrandfather Willie Shannon Hardin Co.,(you had wife obit. Daisy Ann). Did you find these old newspapers on Microfilm in Savannah or where? I'd like to request a copy of William Alfred Shannon 3/31/94, (email will be fine). Also, in the case of the obits/news that you copied, some are longer than others, did you summarize or get them from a summary book? Last, we prob. have some common cousins, in reading your trees and other info. it appears you tie somehow to Willis and Benson, as I do through my grandmother, whose mother was an Ema Stanfill. At any rate, Oran Willis Benson's was a 1st cousin to my grandmother. That's prob pretty far afield for you though. Thanks for the nice site and obit whenever you can get to it. Gary Shannon

Ed, Thank you for the email. As far as I can tell, there is no connection between your Davidson County Adams and mine. I have traced as far back as the origional immigrant, Nathan Adams who was married to Martha Patton. They were from Strabane, Tyrone County Ireland. Nathan and Martha came to America once before 1800 and returned to Ireland and then came back in 1814. They had 11 children. They arrived in New York where Nathan's brother, John, lived. John was a prominent banker, being the president of the Fulton Bank of New York.

Nathan and Martha and family proceeded to Philidelphia where in less than three years, Nathan died. A few of the older children had moved to Davidson County, TN and so after Nathan's death, his widow, Martha moved there to be near the rest of the family. One of their 11 children was my gg grandfather, Thomas Patton Adams. He moved to Davidson County in 1815 and married Ann Tennant 11/18/1819. This marriage is recorded in the Tennessee marriage record before 1825. Thomas and Ann both died in Pulaski, TN, he in 1841 and she in 1857. Other siblings married in Davidson county were Rebecca Adams to Joseph T. Gibson, Jane Adams to M. Robinson,Mary Adams to David Crockett (no, not THE David Crockett).

That in a nutshell is my early family. I have many more names and details, but there does not seem to be any connection with your Adams family. I will be happy to describe further what I know if you think it may lead somewhere for you. In the meantime, happy hunting!
Bill Adams

Dear Mr. Douglas,

I just read in our magazine section of the Post Star in Glens, Falls, NY., about wanting to sue for reparations.

I do not believe you can win your law suit. You will have to go back to Africa were warring tribe kidnapped the losers of wars and sold these poor people as slaves. Then, you will have to find the Spanish, English, Portegese, traders who bought the slaves from the african's. If the Africans and other enslavers had not sold these poor people, their would not have been slavery.

This is why I do not think you will win. I lived in many countries Brazil, Mexico & Venezuela where slaves and their families flied to not be separated.

Respectfully,

Maggie Alitz

My dad was born and raised in Morris Chapel. He is buried in Morris Chapel Cemetery. I still have "many" relatives living there. I haven't found much on this side of the family. I can only go back as far as my grandfather. His name was Albert Lafayette Nix. If you have any info on him that would be great. I do know this much about him...born Oct 1, 1885 in Hamburg, TN. He married Jennie Thacker (not sure when) They had 5 girls and 1 son (Richard David Nix-my father). Albert died August 7, 1962. This site is so great. I found many of my family members on here. I even found some of my dad's friends. Thanks again for having this site. It really does help.

I enjoyed reading about your Adams soldier whose marker was wrong. Isn't it funny how some people think that a marker cannot be wrong?

We seem to have ancestors who took the same routes. Our time period was from 1807 to 1850. I'll look to see if there were any Adamses who were their neighbors.

By the way, we were in Jubail, Saudi Arabia in 1991-3. We breathed all that smoke from Kuwait for a year. My husband was with Shell Oil Company. What sort of work were you doing there? Gee, I do hope you are home safe NOW!

Really nice site. Thanks, Janice

My grandfather, William Larkin Austin, married Gorgan
Johnson, who was a granddaughter of Frederick Johnson, and
a daughter of John J Johnson. Gorgan was born Jan. 3, 1862.
For some reason, Gorgan was not listed in Frederick Johnson's genealogy. Her name was pronounced George Ann,
but on her tombstone it is spelled Gorgan. I am unable to
determine who the father of William Larkin Austin is.
I know that Martha Johnson married Daniel W. Willis and
she is a sister of Gorgan. Another sister is Mary E who
married James Monroe Bridges. Another sister, Sarah M.
Johnson married Reece Adams.
WE know that William Larkin Austin with two brothers,
Jim Frank and Giles Austin, came from around Sardis to
Dyer County where I now live.

And I saw your name so I thought that I would see what you have done on your web page for your family tree. You have been very busy. Nice site. My husband is the greatgrandson of Tolbert Willis. His mother was Ivy Lily Dyer Hopper, the daughter of John William and Miriam Emily Van Dyke Dyer. Miriam Emily Van Dyke was the daughter of Duncan B. Van Dyke and Martha Jane Willis, who was the daughter of Tolbert and Elizabeth Willis. Tolbert's mother was Catherine Willis.

I enjoyed visiting your webpage. I was able to get a few more names to add to my files on the Willis family. I would like to have any information you have on this family that you have not put on the webpage. I will be glad to reinburse you for any expenses that occur. Do you know anymore about Catherine Willis. All we know is that she went to Arkansas with her daughter Sarah Willis and Sarah's husband Ira Hoy, and that is where she died. If you can help us we would appreciate it very much. I have talked to you several years back by e-mail and you or I did not have to much info at that time. I have found some info since then and I noticed that you have also add some more to your files. Keep up the good work.

My father's (b.1919) family was from Orange County, New York. His name was Trusdell Edward Wisner. His father's name was also Trusdell and his father had a brother named Miller Wisner. I believe the family has some connection to the Jacob Wisner honored with an obelisk in Goshen, New York. I'd love more info if anyone has knowledge of this part of the Wisner family. Good to see you again at Saltillo. You are obviously having great success in digging up those Adams and decendents. As noted before, my sister Christine Gilchrist Brooks married Bills Son Vandell.Interesting to see how the community spreads.
Am going to Williamson County homepage to see if I can find out anything about William Holt and Cynthia White who M ca 1847 and promptly dropped out of sight.....
Again, nice homepage. We are so slow, we may never get one posted. Congratulations...

Checking out your site as you recommended. My great-grandmother was Margaret Ann TWILLA. See no connection, but wonder if her father might be a brother to Henry C. TWILLA b. 1824 in TN. You don't whow where this family was living during Generation I. Thanks!

Thanks,

My mother was Lucille Willis. Her family is from the Boone County, Missouri area. My Willis search has led me to Indiana, Ohio, and perhaps Tenessee. We have a Robert Willis of Shelby County Ohio, whose father and mother are probably Stewart and Sarah Mecher Willis. We think they were from Tennessee. If you have any info, I would appreciate it.

'Good to see folks willing to share info on our ancestors. I don't see anyone on your list that I connect to....Laden, Moore, and G/G/Grandmother Eadie, wife of George Laden, whose maiden name continues to elude me. They were in Hardin Co. where he died in 1837-38 and she continued to live there with son, William, probably until her death. Need her maiden name and place of their burial. Their son, my g/grandfather, John Richard Laden, and others of the clan, are buried at Russel Chapel. They owned land along the Tennessee River and Swallow Bluffs was on their property. John Richard owned a mill on Indian Creek, near Cerro Gordo, from ca 1850-1870.

Hi Ed,
I got a message from your cousin Jan looking for Wisners.
I scanned the papers you snail mailed me several years ago, and forwarded them to her.
If any one thinks its a small world, the internet makes it even smaller.
How is the research going? I research now sorta hit and miss.
My Sally Wisner must have been the daughter of Henry Wisner Sr. and Peggy Adams because she was born 1787 and married in 1812 to Jordan Solomon.
Keep in touch.

Ed, your site was a very nice find! I have a link in your Maddox line -- Margaret Maddox and Abner Blevins are my g-g-g-g-grandparents. Supposedly Abner's mother's maiden name was Maddox as well. According to Goodspeed's biographies, Abner and his mother came to Hardin County from Anderson Co., TN. Do you know anything about the Maddox line there? Hope you will check my line out and drop and line. My webpage is at: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Meadows/6273/

Was so pleased to find your site [thru US GenWeb Hardin Co]. I am a Jowell researcher. Your R.B. Joel married to Mary Jane Maddox is one of ours. [Joel/Jowell is same surname]. I have him listed as Richard Ratcliff b. abt 1826 in SC. He was son of James Gabriel Joel/Jowell b.abt.1773 in SC & Rebecca Abercrombie b. 1781 in Laurens Dist. SC. Richard was the youngest of theri 10 children and is listed in his parents household on 1850 Tishomingo Co MS census as "Richard R., 24, SC"
I had nothing on him except his wife, Mary Jane Maddox. Thanks to your site, I can add 4 children. I will look more carefully in Hardin Co as I suspect I will find more of my missing family.
Your site is terrific!

Could this be the same? Let me know what you think. Sarah E. "Betty" Roy is my great grandmother. Any info you may have on them would be greatly appreciated. I like your home pages.

My husband's great-grandfather, Gillie Bain, married Rhoda Maddox, daughter of Ephraim and Margaret Maddox. Rhoda was born in 1850 in Hardin County, Tenn., and died Feb. 8, 1899, at Batesville, Ark. Their son, George Lee Bain, was my mother-in-law's father.

So glad to find others working on the Maddox line.

Am new at my Bivens/Adams line, but can trace to Mary Polly Adams, born Jan. 10, 1812 in TN and married Barnabus S. Bivens on April 1 or (11), 1830 in Lauderdale Co., Ala.
Both she and Barnabus are buried in the Lebanon Cemtery in Hardin Co., TN..so I was wondering if she is connected to Daniel Adams that is buried there, especially since
he was married April 10, 1811 and my Mary Polly ADAMs is born Jan. 10, 1812. The Bivens and Admams, both, were both found in Lauderdale Co., Ala.
I am new to this, and sure that my musings and questions have already been answered before, but I am fresh on the trail and enjoying the mystery now.
Great ADAMS page. judy mainord malone in Jackson, TN.
