Cynthia Pack Cowart's mother was a Cherokee woman who went on the Trail of Tears to OKla, a cousin of Chief John Ross. This is my husbands line. I haven't been able to find William's parents. I have his war pension record which was very helpful! He was married twice with two family's. Annie Poe was his first wife he married her in Al. 1850 AL census list there children as Joshua 13, Nancy 8, Arenica(may be America)6,Sarah 11 mo. They moved to AR 1870 census has more children David 16,James W 12,Thomas J 11,Alexander 11, Tennessee 8, Robert 6. Then Annie died and he married Amanda Wilson. On the marriage licence AR 1877 she is Amanda Calhoun. She was married for a short time and he was killed. William said he was born in dandridge TN 1817?. Lived in Jackson Co AL, Independence Co AR, Hunt Co TX, Ozark Co Mo, Any info on this family would be great!

The book "Our Cowart Family" listed in your book list shows the origin of "my" Cowart family as descending from one of three brothers (school teachers) who emigrated from Wales to the Edgefield District of South Carolina in the 1600s. My ancester Lucinda Cowart married a John Wilson Spikes. She was born in 1818 in GA and married him abt 1836 in Mississippi and died abt. 1880 in Texas. Her father was an Edward Cowart and her mother's name was Jane, born abt 1787 in South Carolina. No info on Edward.
