Did you have family in Upson County, if so when? James Pearce or Pierce
Comments:
The father of James Pearce (or Pierce) who lived in Upson County probably died in the 1860s. Samuel Pearce was living with James and family in the 1860 census. I am trying to discover whether the family name is Pierce or Pearce, and thought if I looked thru Upson County online cemeteries, I might discover the truth. No luck. 3 said there were problems with URL.

Did you have family in Upson County, if so when? yes-mother born blackankle1908
Comments:
I am having a problem finding any information on my maternal grandmother's mother,Sarah Searcy.I am told she had two brothers Thomas and Jordan. I am not sure if she was born in Blackankle,Upson County but her children were.My gandmother was Hattie Dawson the oldest born 1881 or 1882,Lula Lan Dawson-Jenkins born 1883,Dora Dawson-Weaver born 1887,Elizabeth (Sugar) Dawson-Hardiman-King born ?, Lily Dawson born 1895. There were also two sons Roger and Davis that died young. Icould not find her in the 1880 census and the 1890 census for Upson was burned. By 1900 she was deceased. I do know that in Blackankle she had relatives named Wash and Pink Searcy,Clinton Searcy and his brother,Marion Searcy who moved to Mt. Ida, Crenshaw Cty. where he died 5/1919, Marion's Daughter Blonde born 1896,and Square (Esquire)who was a Masonic Lodge Member married to Sophronia (Phronie) Searcy who owned their own farm in the Jug District of Upson. Square died first then his wife in 5/1923. I do not know if Sarah Searcy was married but I do know that the father of her children was Fayette (Fate) Dawson a mulatto who was listed as being 38 years old in 1880 and living on his own farm in Hootenville. Fayette Dawson had older children including a son named Fayette Dawson, who live his father was called Fate. The son was also called Uncle Fate by my mother and her siblings. I do not know or have any idea of my great grandmother Sarah Dawson's age or weather she was born a slave or not. If anyone has any knowledge about the Searcys or the Dawsons please contact me Florence Fox-Walker Thanks

I have been researching for a while now but just joined Ancestry.com today. Naturally as soon as I did that, I began to find more info everywhere else.

Today under Obits, Cox, I found my biological aunt's funeral notice. Mattie (Corley) Cox, the widow of Rev. John Cox.

My biological father, her brother, died in a VA Hospital in Reno, NV in 1986. His full name was Artis Milward Corley.

Did you have family in Upson County, if so when? Murray 1845? - 1890
Comments:
My fraternal Great-great grandfather was John Patrick Murray of Scotland who firts appears in Upson Co. in the 1850 census. His wife was Parthenia (also spelled Parthanopia and Partha) H. Murray who was from Georgia and whose parents were from Virginia. They had several children beginning with Mary Elizabeth in 1848-50, Emma 50-53, Margaret P. 50, Alice 56-58, Twin boys John P. Jr. & Benjamin in 61. In 1850 John Patrick Murray is identified as a tailor in 1860 he is the Postmaster and by 1870 listed as a farmer. He is not in the 1880 census but Parthenia and some of the children still are so I assume he died sometime that decade. The census records indicate district #86 in 1850 and #561 in 1860, the local post office is identified as Thomaston.

Any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated as I live in Allentown, PA. A journey John Patrick Murray Jr. started when he moved to Alabama, then Kentucky (where my Grandfather was born) and then ending up in Findlay, Ohio where he died in 1892.
