The information that the Johnstons came from Scotland to Ireland in 1669, settling in Tyrone County and in Derry, might be useful. We've discovered our Scottish ancestors from DNA matching, but we've been unable to make the link through Ireland, where our Prescott, Ontario Johnstons emigrated from. Some oral histories place the origin as Derry. Any more information you might have would be lovely.

Amanda, I think you are wrong--to most Researchers, the more information that is obtained, instead of confusion, the missing links are more interesting and challenging.
More information makes it obvious when we get off the path and helps to put the puzzle pieces together in a more accurate perception. For the true Researcher, finding missing links are so exciting that the sun will seem to shine at midnight .
Also, it gives the Researcher more power and excitement to discover where the line begins or ends! Knowledge is power and we are getting stronger and closer to resolving our puzzles every day! Just being patient, sometimes the information comes to us without looking or expecting it.
I see you are researching a SNYDER--I have several SNYDER connections--maybe we are cousins?
Why don't you let me know more about your SNYDERS? Where are they from? I have some from Washington--Cashmere to be exact. Are we talking about the same Lineage?
I have some people who are very interested in finding the SNYDERS and LARSONS from Washington. If you know these Lineages, please keep in contact so I can pass on the information to the proper authorities.

Bessie was my fraternal gmother and married Donald Shepard Howell on 09 Dec 1915 in Boise. Don was born 09 Apr 1887 in Geneseo, NY and d on 02 Feb 1974 in Boise, ID. Bessie's mother was Emma Josephine 'Josie' McNew (b 03 Nov 1867 in Owsley County KY and d 19 Sep 1925 in Kuna, Ada, Idaho). 'Josie' married William Anthony Russell (b 21 Mar 1859 in Knoxville, IL and d 05 Mar 1905 in Smith Prairie, Idaho). I have photos of their grave sites if anyone is interested.
Josie's father was Moses Cawood McNew (b 03 Jun 1820 in Lexington KY and d 03 Jun 1869 in Owsley Co, KY.) Although there is some doubt, Josie's mother is thought to be Clarissa Jones (b 18 Nov 1829 in West Liberty, KY and d in 1903 in WA.
The Cawood's and McNew's that came from Scott and Washington Counties Virginia in the mid 1700's to early 1800's are of my lineage as are the Berry's from the Charles Co. MD area in the early 1700's to mid 1800's. Thanks, Roxann

Great Website with lots of info., I like that it acknowledges more than one person genealogy information on the same peson. My 3g grandmother was Ann McNew. She married James Williams. Samuel Hicks Williams (born 3/13/1854 Ripley County IN) was their son. Sam is not listed on Clayton's info that I saw. He married Elizabeth Bever of Hillsboro IN. I never knew much about my ancestors except for my family on the Atkinson side and that was sparse. I have been amazed by what my sister (Shelby Thomas) has come up with. It is good to know about your ancestors and their struggles. You may hear an ancestor talk about "the good old days" but that is just their memories. Times are rough now for farmers. I can only imagine what they had to go through and endure in order to survive. That intestinal fortitude has allowed "us" to be here in our place in time. We should learn as much as we can about our ancestors because one day we will be those ancestors. I personally am grateful to researchers such as "Patsy" whom have put in countless hours doing the paperwork that we enjoy. Just remember to document your existence so your future generations will have it much easier to learn about us.

My father was Robert Edgar McNew, born at Powell Station, Tennessee on 4-26-20, died 10-1-75. My grandfather was Isaac Edgar McNew, born in Union County, Tennessee, in 1891 and died, I think, in 1985. I have a great deal of information about my branch of the McNew clan and I'll try to dig it out tomorrow. I haven't looked at it in many years but I believe it traces McNews back into the 1700s.

Ok, I now know for a fact that Robert Dihel McNew is my great grandfather. I looked Robert Dihel McNew up on google and I found an orbituary that confirms this fact. I have been able to trace our line back to Richard (b.1788) based on info in a bible that is in the family. I am now trying to figure out whether Richard's father was Shadrack or Jeremiah.
