In answer to Margaret re the Phelan's: Yes, we do have a priest in the family and he was in County Tipperary doing research a few years ago and did publish a book although they have all sold out. I have been to Ontario, Canada and can verify most of the information I have through Fr. Phelan and through a Phelan descendant who resides on the home place in King's Cote, Grey county, Ontario.

She was raised by her grandparents, Michael & Catherine David Phelan, as Sarah died shortly after giving birth to Theresa and her twin sister Ellen. My maiden name was Dunn and I married Gerald Hughes in 1958. I accidently saw this Phelan site and started checking through. The information is quite correct with Margaret Phelan marrying John Hughes In St Catherines in Ontario. My husband died in 2000. His sister Bertille Kerndt did quite an extensive ancestry search some years ago. I'm curious how the Phelans are connected to you. Also a Phelan is married to a Davis in Devils Lake N.D. I keep in touch with Fr John Davis in Chimbote Peru.

Shevry is a small area. One of Daniel's sons was called Pierce. Daniel was my gt. grandfather. I wouldn't be surprised if your Pierce Phelan was my gt. gt. grandfather's brother. Daniel also had John, James, Patrick, Michael, Thomas, Mary, Daniel, William, Elizabeth(my granny) and Bryan.(11). Of course as there was only so many Christian names in existence they don't prove anything.
Where did you get your first piece of info? Has it been verified?
Five of Daniel's sons went to USA late 19th early 20th century. New York, New Jersey and Michigan.
I only really got started properly last year when I went to Dublin to the National Archives.
Do you have a priest in the family as one turned up in Upperchurch a few years ago and he had a whole book compiled. A cousin thought there was no relationship at first but later said there was a connection.
Thank you for putting your family on the internet.

You've changed your e-mail address several times since I last heard from you, so I hope this finds it's way to you.
It has been a few years since we last communicated about our mutual Wheeler lines. Just recently, I've been going over some of my source documents. One document was an extensive e-mail I received from you in June of 2000. In it, you listed eleven children for Benjamin Wheeler and his wife, Mary McCarter. I had shown only seven because I had no record of (1) Lucinda b: 26 Jun 1813 (2) Nelson b: 7 Sep 1815 (3) Henry b: 11 Jul 1826 (4) Mary b: 6 Aug 1830. Do you have proof and/or sources to verify this information? I found a Benjamin Wheeler in the 1830 Clermont, Ohio census, but the ages of the children didn't quite fit and since only the head of the household was listed during that time, I didn't feel comfortable using it as a source. So far, I've not been able to find any other records to document the additional four children. I would appreciate any documentation you can provide.
I do show that Benjamin's brother, John who md. Polly Craycraft, had a child named Henry Duke as well as a daughter named Mary. I also show that Benjamin's son, John who md. Polly Camerer, had a child named Lucinda. I don't have a Nelson recorded anywhere.
Any help you can give to me on this will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you so much,
Marilyn

So glad I found your website! I believe I descend from Theodore's sister (or perhaps cousin) Martia Vanarmen b. NY/VT, who married William Peterson in Richland County, Ohio, 1835. According to censuses, Martia's father was born in Canada and her mother in Conn. Martia later changed her name to Marcia. If you have more information on the Van Normans that would add more details beyond the 1830 census which places Frederick Vanorman in Congress, Richland Co., Ohio with one son and one daughter fitting the ages of Theo and Martia, and Shelly Evilsizor's Joshua West family tree (Ancestry.com) that names George Frederick the son of Isaac Vanorman of Shelbourne, Chittenden Co, VT.

You are dismissing a very important personage among your list of ancestors. You have him listed, but have no detailed information about him. His name is JOHN WHEELER BUNTON. This man is even more important than LBJ, as he was one of the founders of the Republic of Texas, and lies interred in the Texas State Cemetery in Austin. He was the older brother of Robert Holmes Bunton, LBJ's great-grandfather. Do a search on his name and you will find several sites which give reams of information on this man. One site is the Handbook of Texas Online. Incidentally, I am a great-great-great grandson of the aforementioned John Wheeler Bunton.

During his period in Corydon, Wayne County, Iowa, he was elected County Attorney for two terms, in 1920 and in 1924.We remember Mr. Tedrow very well and was selected as his "best man" at his wedding. He was a very affable young man and had a fine personality and a very bright man aside from his education. In his disposition he was quick and snappy and rather witty. He was well liked and gave good service in this official capacity while here, as well as legal. We do not now recall any particular cases in which he was interested but in a general way we know of his practice. He is one of the very few living examples of such a long period of active work and of active practice in the profession. In Iowa, as well as in Nebraska, he took great interest in politics, being a republican and is still hanging on to the "grand old party" and for many years was chairman of the County Central Committee of the county in which he now resides.

COUNTY SUPERINTENDENT.
This highly important office is filled by an energetic and competent young man, W.H. Tedrow. Mr. Tedrow was born in Knox county, Illinois in 1859. Removed to Iowa when only two years old, where he lived a number of years. He graduated at the Oskaloosa college, taught school in Iowa two years, was admitted to the bar in 1879, then removed to Platte county, Nebraska, in 1879, settling at Platte Center, where he taught school and practiced law. In 1885 he was the democratic candidate for the office of county superintendent, and was elected by a majority of 279 over a very popular opponent. Mr. Tedrow has won his way in esteem since taking this important position, and has devoted himself to his official duties with untiring energy. The county institute now in session with a hundred teachers in attendance all evincing great interest in the work speaks volumes for the work of himself and his associates, Profs. Cramer and Backus.

Thank you for putting this out on the web! My mother, Dixie Metcalf Bunch was a foster child and knows little about her family history. All I knew was her father's name - Albert Metcalf. I now have access to a beautifully researched family tree to pass on to her in time for Mother's Day! To go from knowing nothing about her history to finding out her ancestors fought in the Revolution will be quite exciting. I thank you for making this possible!

I'm going to ask my father, Norbert F. Kaylor (born in Pittsburgh) to submit our family tree to the Rootsweb site. He has completed a pretty thorough family tree that goes back to Germany in the early 1800's. Koehler is, of course, a fairly common German surname, so none of us may find much commonality, but you never know... I just thought it was interesting to see that another Eric Kaylor signed your guestbook and said "there is another Eric Kaylor in Ohio". There are actually at least three that I know of (I live in Columbus). FYI, I have no brothers or sons, but my father's brother Paul and his three sons live in the Pittsburgh area, and my father's sister Jean lives near Orlando, Florida.

This site is the best site I have seen for a family. Beautiful! You cannot be as old as I am (born 1925), I have not set up a web site, but really need to, as I have at least 4 genealogy corners going back to the late 1500's, and across the water in those area's. I have noted your comments at times in the Macoupin Co., IL list. It is nice to have cousins. Wish I could have attended the Hays reunion this year. Just live to far away (Milwaukie, OR, south of Portland), and on limited retirement income. Keep up the good work. With you and Gloria both working on this we will solve some of the problems.

i just saw your Stewart web site and thought I'd give it a try. No luck. All my Stewarts came in early 1800 to Staten Island, NY and then to Elizabeth and Hoboken, NJ in the mid 1800's. I am a dec. of George Wilson Stewart bor in Hoboken, NJ in 1880, he is one of 4 brothers and 1 sister. My father, George J. Stewart was the only son produced by the 4 brothers and I am his only child. So the line Name died with my dad.
I haven't been doing research for very long but have hit a dead end on the ancesters and am now grabbing at straws.
I think you have a very informative site and I'm sure it is very helpful to many researchers.

I'vs just begun working on my mother's side of the family. Her grandfather was Alvin Causer Stewart m Mary Ellen Sellers Duncan. His father was John A. Stewart m Rebecca Harrelson. That's all I have at present other than from Marion and Horry County of South Carolina. Would there be a connection with your family?
Thanks

Your page is very nicely done in every aspect. I have really enjoyed my new hobby of searching for family roots. It has been frustrating as well as rewarding. Most of my mothers father and mothers side of the family settled in the Sangamon County area, Athens, Springfield, Salisbury, Woodson. Although I am having a problem with my ggrandmothers family Burchett. She was from Woodson and I haven't been able to retrieve certificates on her or get much information as there was a fire in the courthouse that housed Woodson, Illinois vitals, and her parents where killed while she was a baby. We don't even know who raised her. If anyone has infor on Burchett please let me know. The other names I am researching are Starks, Combs, Cash.
Again, you have a very nice web page. Teresa Jenkins
