They had one son Herbert Leonedis Martin, who when he was 2 months old moved to Kansas with grandparents Metcalf & the Fuller & Billings families. Leonardis & Armina dropped out of sight. My grandpa Herbert married Gracelia Ellen Harrell 1 Jan 1901 & had 9 children (last one died within 2 months). My dad, Raymond & his siblings would not talk about their past. I have been researching since Oct 2005. I have come up with a few gems but hope to find many more. There was a Martin that came over with the Mayflower; Also Fuller. I have not been able to connect them yet. Enough for this time. I am looking forward to hearing from you. I have barely started researching the Meyer line as so much of the queries on the web are in French. Germany, by the time of her birth her family was Catholic...all very interesting. She came to America in the late 1800's.

Name: Abigail Sarah Martin <abimar@att.net> Date: 2003-10-09 Our Common Ancestor Bartholomew Martin? Your connection to the Martin or Meyers families Martin Comments:
My great-great-great-great-great-great grandfather was George Martin, born ca. 1660, either in England or the colonies, not clear. He married Abigail Lord of Salem, had at least one son, Thomas, was known to be in Newport, RI in 1680's-90's (court case records), probably died around the same time as Bartholomew, after which his son Thomas claimed "his father's land" in Martha's Vineyard. George may have spelled his name Martine or Martain at times, may have been a brother of Bartholomew, may have been a son of John of Barnstable, MA, and possibly cousin of the George Martin of Salisbury/Amesbury, MA whose widow Susannah (North) was hanged in Salem in 1692. His son Thomas married Amy Daggett (of the "Bow and Arrow Daggetts"--Martha's Vineyard Indian ancestor), a descendant of the enigmatic Hepzibah Brotherton, whose surname has been carried through this family as a first or middle name for many generations. Thomas and Amy had several children, including sons Thomas, Peter, and Brotherton, b. 1719, who left the Vineyard, married Betty Bartlett (five Mayflower ancestors including John and Priscilla Alden) in 1746, settled in Lebanon, CT and had six children. In 1761, they moved along with many others from Lebanon and other RI, CT, and MA areas, to Horton township, King's County, Nova Scotia, now Wolfville, with land grants to resettle the rich farmland there. In 1799, their youngest son Chandler married Nancy Comstock, a descendant of Balthazar DeWolfe and numerous royals dating back to the Plantagenets, and all the way back to the earliest kings of Scotland. Their son Rufus married Mary McQuarrie, had son Chandler (b. 1835) who married Martha Foxe and had son Frederick Brotherton Martin, b. 1875, my grandfather, who migrated back to Providence, RI, sometime before 1903 when he married my grandmother, Caroline Evans. Are we related??? By the way, are you aware that Martha's Vineyard was at one time called Martin's Vineyard? No one exactly knows why, though the captain of Bartholomew Gosnold's ship which made the first exploratory voyage to the island in 1602 was a John Martin, and his cartographer was John Brereton (Brere...Brother...Brotherton???)....

Hi Joyce,
It is good to hear from you again. Thank you for sending me your web site. We had corresponded before in connection with my relationship to the Pecks. In your surname list under "Peck" I found William and Elizabeth who are my ancestors. They had three sons, Jeremiah, John and Joseph. I am descended through Joseph. John is the ancestor of Barbara Bush, the mother of President George W. Bush. I may have mentioned this before.

I know I shall enjoy following this website - it will be an on-going saga of two families that I am related to. This will be especially interesting to my grandchildren and great-grandchildren in years to come. I only hoope they will take an interest in their heritage and be as proud of their roots as I am. Thanksfor all of this to my daughter Joyce Martin O'Connell for she has certainly taken a huge interest in family. It always amazes me when I think about all the people who have come before me - all they went through to make a better life for themselves, the sacrifices they made, the hasrdwships
they endured, all to get this generation to this point where we can read about them through the magic of this computor. They would have had to write all this down by candle-light of oil lamp-light. We have letters written many years ago in pencil - probably did not have access to pen or ink Butwrite they did just the same and we are so thankful for that because they tell great stories.. Thanks to all of them and to you, too, Joyce
