Marcus, Did you know that Eugene A. Bert died on 30 April 2009? I suppose he was a distant cousin of yours. Did you know that he served under Eisenhower, Kennedy, and Johnson and that he kept the nuclear codes? His office at the Eisenhower Farm is being refurbished as it was when he stayed there. One of his card playing buddies was John Eisenhower. Later, he was w/ FEMA and again kept the nuclear codes and had an unrestricted pass to Mount Weather near Berryville, VA. He was a veteran of WWII, the Korean War, and was, of course, still in the military during the Vietnam Conflict.

Enjoyed looking through your site! Thank you for the information. However, I did notice one mistake. Robert O. Addison's wife was not named Gertie Beryl Hawkins...she was Gerthel Beryl Hankins. I am her oldest grandson. Her daughter, Roberta Sue's only child. Roberta is married to Randall William Hurst of Nelson County, Va. She also had a son named Cody Brannon Addison who currently lives in Lynchburg, Virginia. He is married to Mimi Hoffman Addison of Roanoke, Va. They have two children, Virginia Lee and Cody Brannon. Both are unmarried. They also had an oldest daughter who passed away at the age of 16 in 1987-88. I am the oldest grandchild. Great! Lots of information here, some I have been looking for.
I can't find anything on Nathaniel Maddux who m. Ann Tennsyson. I was told she left with another man, and that's all I know of them.
Also, William Maddux from Virginia went to Maysville, KY Nov 1784. I found him in Jefferson Co., KY Church Records. I know nothing else about him.
Also; Lazarus Maddux left his will in Mason Co., Ky dated 1794. I haven't seen this will, but found it in the Will Book of Mason Co., KY.
There is a Notely Maddux there also, and a member of the family of Cornelius Maddox Family, whose daughter, Mary married a Smallwood, and William Smallwood is my direct ancestor through his son, James, the same one Mary Maddox married into. Small world.
If I didn't spend so much time looking this stuff up, I wouldn't have found that connection to the Smallwood Family of which I am a descenant of William Smallwood, through Mary Ann Elizabeth Smallwood of Indiana who m. John T. Murphy and the Murphy's were in Baltimore Co., MD and John Lowe was seated between William Murpy and his brother, Joseph Murphy in Pew #23 in the Methodist E. Church in Baltimore, MD in the 1700's.

I've been researching my family tree, and found your site while looking into the Bowling family (on my mother's side)in/around Chatham Hill, Smyth Co., VA, and discovered that we seem to be related.
My maternal grandfather was Philip Bailey Criggar, Jr. born in Chatham Hill, Smyth Co., VA. His parents were Philip Bailey Crigger of Smyth Co, VA and Lucy Irene "Renie" Bowling. Lucy Irene's parents were Henry Campbell Bowling and Mary Elizabeth Rich...who as it turns out, were both of the Bowling family, both through Jarret Bowling.

One of my main interest is a connection between the SHARP family of Patrick County, VA and my TUGGLE family of Patrick and Russell Counties in Virginia. My great-great-great grandfather was WILLIAM WALKER TUGGLE (circa 1785 - 1870's) who was married to HANNAH ?. HANNAH I. TUGGLE OSBORNE, the daughter of JOHN MORRIS TUGGLE, who was a son of WILLIAM WALKER TUGGLE stated in an early history that the mother of JOHN MORRIS TUGGLE was a SHARP. What's so frustrating is the fact that both ROBERT SHARP and WILLIAM SHARP of Patrick Co., VA married ladies named PHILAPENAH. One a SHELTON and the other a FITZGERALD. I have come up against a stonewall looking for "Hannah Hurd Helton Haywood" born in Franklin County, VA in 1805 (abt). Hannah first wed to Samuel Helton 23 Feb 1825. Samuel was born abt 1805 in Franklin County. Samuel died between 1830-1840 (Hannah listed as widow in 1840 census. She then married John Haywood in 20 Jan 1864 in Russell County. They are listed in Buchanan County Census in 1870 along with daughter Judith who married Joseph Haywood (John Haywood's brother) 3 Nov 1864. For some reason I cannot locate death info on either Hannah or daughter Judith though I suspect they died in Elk Garden, VA. I have researched old graveyard info, Ancestry.com and everything I can find, and to date nothing. Can you offer any suggestions?

Marcus, Do you know why Stanford Clapp, his wife and children (and a Murray family) moved from Alamance Co.,NC to Smythe Co.,NC? Stanford and my gggrandfather, Madison Clapp(who were neighbors) got into legal trouble in 1859 in Alamance Co. I don't know the charge but the result was that Madison had to pay $5.00 and cost of court and Stanford had to pay 1 cent and cost of court. Around the time Stanford moved to VA. Madison's son, Emsley, my ggrandfather, moved from Alamance Co. to SC and changed his surname to that of his mother, Goley. Another of Madison's sons, Alson Clapp moved to Indiana and was never heard from again. Something bad happened, but I can't find out what. Do you know anything about this? I would appreciate any help you could give.

I have been trying to find records on Hannah Hurd Helton Haywood. Hannah married Samuel Helton 2-23-1825 in Franklin county. They moved to Washington County, then Russell County. Samuel died(date?) and Hannah remarried John B. Haywood who was about 22 years her Junior. Her daughter, Julia (Judith) was my ggrandmother. Julia had my ggrandfather, John Henry Helton, before she was married and she later married Joseph Haywood a brother to her mother's husband John. Confusing? Last time I find either of them in Russell County Census is 1860. Julia (Judith?) married Joseph Haywood 11-3-1864. I wonder where they moved after their marriage to the Haywood boys.

She is listed as Margaret "Ann" Valle. (b. Sept. 3, 1854, d. Jan 20, 1921, so her middle name is not Louise. Henry Daniel Addison is my great great grandfather, Everett Addison my great grandfather, and Charles Levi Addison is my grandfather. PLEASE let me know if you run into any info on the Artie Frances Addison line. She married Everett in 1899. I have been unable to determine who her parents were. Thank you so much for posting your site! All my ancestors are listed here back through the 1700's in Ireland!! My father, Rev. Sidney K. Boyd, passed away a year ago tomorrow (3/22/05). He was a huge genealogy buff and had traced our family roots back a number of generations.
