Much of my husband's family settled in Allen Parish, LA. His grandmother was Edith Canzadie Cole Carpenter, 1889-1976. We were just in Kinder, LA for his mother's funeral and we were trying to determine origin of the name Canzadie. The internet led me to your Shirley page. Any ideas? Thanks

Just decided to see if I could maybe be related, but I still don't know. I am the daughter of (the late) Todd Shirley and (still alive) Antoinette Shirley. My grandfather, Thomas Shirley, died of a heart attack about two and a half years before I was born. Although I live in Arizona, I could be related to people in Louisiana, but who knows for sure. Bye!

Sarah Ann Hester Delilah Shirley born August 06, 1851, was my greatgrandmother. She was born in SC married in GA then moved to AL then to Texas. She married William Robert LaFayette Stockton 8/02/1876 in GA. They lived outside of Collinsville, AL until 1894-96 then all of the Stockton's moved to Wise Co. Texas. Sarah had unmarried sister, Jane, that moved with them and lived with them until her death. Sarah used a number of different names during her life. S.A. Stockton, Ann Stockton, to name a few. Any ideals us to her parents would be helpfull.

I am just beginning to research my geneology and so far it has led me here. Currently I am living in California, San Diego area. I know that there is quite a bit of Shirley's in Idaho and a few in Utah, though whether those are connected with the Lousianna Shirley's I wouldn't be able to tell you. Perhaps someone there might know. My mother is Lynda Shirley, father Michael Shirley. My dad was born in Alabama area. His father was Percy Shirley, and Percy's father was Edgar Shirley. Let me know if there is any connection there. Thanks so much.

I believe your site has the father of David as Richard.I know that all the info on the Shirley site is not correct because it does not list my gg-grandfather as on of B Allens children. I recently discovered that I am a descendant of John Ashbury West, from Wayne, Co. MS. He is my g-g-grandfather.His son John Ashbury West, JR. married Levinia(SP) Lucenda Shirley in 1842. She is the daughter of John Shirley and Elizabeth Shirley who came from Darlington County S.C. John Shirley was born in 1775 in S.C. It may just be by marriage but I do have these Shirley's in my family tree here in MS. Levinia (SP) Lucenda Shirley West was born around 1824 and died in late 1800's or early 1900's she is buried at MT Moriah Baptist Church, Jones Co.MS. My information states there is no head stone. Correspond if you like. Sam

My g-grandfather's (John Light TOWNSEND) second wife was Emma Texas SHIRLEY (b 16 Jan 1881; d 15 Feb 1970); this was a second marriage for both. Her first husband was Harrison CREWS. Normally, I don't spend time on in-laws records, but the daughter of Emma and Harrison married the son of John and his first wife. Do any of these names sound familiar?
