I am almost sure that I am a decendent of William and Mary Durrant, my Great Great Great Great Grandparents. My Great x3 Grandparents were William Final and Sarah Durrant (John's Sister), thier son George Final was my Grandfathers Grandfather.
I have to find the baptism certificate for William Final to check the name of his father is the same as the name on his wedding certificate, but I'm pretty sure it will be.
I have been corresponding with Patricia's husband recently and I am determined to find the connection.

Years ago Cathering Tenney asked me to verify a family group sheet of William Durrant, John's father. In the process I found that one of the children, I think it was Henry, had one more child than showed up on my records. I found him in the census. It was a short time later that I had the chance to be at a family gathering and meet Richard and family on his trip to Utah and surrounding area. In visiting with Richard I found that Richard was decended from this child that I found on that census. Richard you have been a blessing to our family. I have fallen in and out of research depending on family situations, but am currently working on trying to establish a link between John's ancesters back 4-6 generations from my great grandfather John.

What a great site and how wonderful to read the story of John Durrant. I live in Hemel Hempstead - just a couple of miles from Bovingdon. I was researching a distant branch of my family - The Bird Family and found your site when googling the address Budge Row, Bovingdon, which I had not come across before - not knowing that it had changed it's name ! While becoming engrossed in John's story, I was to discover a reference to a "Mr Bird" a neighbour of John's in Budge Row showing him in a not very flattering light as tryng to buy up the land behind John's house - which would have resulted in him and his mother being thrown out !!! Thankfully, this didn't happen. I am still not definate whether the "Mr Bird" is a distant relative of mine but it seems probable ! I would just like to let you know how much I have enjoyed reading John's story - especially with the local connections - I will now try to get sight of the book written of his life.

I have myself done research on John Durrant several years ago, but you have far exceeded my work. In fact, my wife Francoise and I paid a visit to Bovingdon in 1997--a pilgrimage of sorts. We'll never forget our discussion with the owner of a Bovingdon pub who did not understand our pseudo-francophone pronunciation of "Durrant." It was only after we shifted the emphasis to the first syllable that he understood and acknowledged that there were indeed still Durrants in town. A great site! Thank you from a proud descendant of John and Elizabeth.

In the late 1960's to 1970 or so I lived in Cambridge next door to a family of DURRANTs. The man of the house was Professor P. J. Durrant, who wrote a book on organic chemstry that I found for sale some time in the eighties, I think. I also learned more recently, from a Times report, that he was Master of Selwyn College, I think - can't find the relevant info at the moment. Anyway, I wondered if there might be any connection to your Durrants.

I'm trying to find out about a Frank Durrant in Norfolk who married my great aunt Jemima Amelia Simkins nee Smith, some time around 1930s but before 1945 (her 2nd. marriage).
They lived in Dersingham, Norfolk and he died some time in the 1950s.
Nothing else known about Frank Durrant.

I am currently a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I thought it would be neat to see what sort of events where happening to John Durrant when he accepted the everlasting gospel. For instance, I never knew that Johns brother Edward accepted the gospel before John.
It is amazing to me that Johns decision to accept the gosple affected so many lives. Including mine.

Tryphena Keys Coppen was my Gt. Grandmother and was married in Essex 1871.Previous research indicated that Tryphena went to Utah before Kezia but I cannot be sure and if she did why did she come back to England??She died 1913 in Essex.I have found this web site really interesting.

My Aunt Daphne before she died in April told me the story of the Durrant brothers going to the States.
My mother was Joan Durrant who married my father Wilfred Haysman in 1949. Joan was daughter of Thomas Durrant and Alice Durrant and was the middle child.
I was married to the Lady Karen-Sif and had three children Paul Barrie Robert Haysman, Gemma Louise Haysman and Jodie-Sif Haysman.
I lived in Bovingdon, Hertfordshire, England for thirty years of my life before moving around finishing in Gloucester with my Job.
My own searches showed that in Parish registers both the Durrant and the Haysman family were in the registers when they were started 1667 and 1702 in Bovingdon and Chipperfield (two miles separating the two villages).
I did more work on my fathers side of the family and have a link back to Kings Long Lea (Kings Langley) the Kings country estate where our ancestor got his name in circa 1100 HAY meaning enclosure, my ancestor being reportedly the estate manager. My Aunt Silv had a story where she had seen the family tree going back to the Romans where we came to England on the ship with Julius Ceaser as a member of his petorian guard (but I have never seen the record).
I hope this is of interest and we can start a dialog.

I enjoyed your story. My husband,s family are LDS, and I
joined the Church in 1999. My husband's ancestor, Levi Newell Kendall joined the Church and moved to Nauvoo, Il.
and went to Utah with the first Saints as a young man,
his father had died and his mother re- married. He did not get along very well with his step- father. The family were very sad that he joined the Church and left home, they didn't think much of the Mormons.
He also married twice, he married sisters, Elizabeth
[my ancestor] and Eliza Clements. He had a total of twenty three children, so my husband has a lot of cousins out there. We have a copy of Elizabeth's patriachal blessing which was given to her by the first patriarch Joseph Smith Sr.
