Didn't realize I had any Oak Park ancestors. My mother b. 1924 SD went to West Suburban Hosp. Nursing School in the mid 40's. In 1949 when I was almost 2yrs old. Moved from Chicago to Winfield where we lived unitl Oct 1968. I graduated from West Chicago H.S. in 1965. I found LeRoy Gould in Directory Oak Park 7012 Washington, RF Nov 1 1910. I have a Francis LeRoy Gould in my history. He was born 1-27-1850 in NH and married Mary B Slattery b 1-25-1858 in Chicago. Can't find their Chicago marriage date. Have one as 9-25-1876 but no proof. Gould is my Grandmother's married name her maiden name was Neubauer. They immigrated in 1800's to Chicago from Germany. Julius Neubauer her father was a locksmith and when he retired they moved to Maywood IL and also had a house out in Winfield IL. My dad was born in the Winfield house.
So if you find anyone with the above information I'd appreciate a notice. You have a neat site. Thanks Linda Rutz Tucson AZ

Hello Ellen,
THis is not in the Oak Park territory, but would you know anyone, who searches in Arlington Heights? I am trying to document a possible realtionship with Friedrich Wenzel and August Wenzel, his son. How do I go about finding out, just where they came from? I have their arrival in the USA and that both of them and their families lived at Arlington Heights at one time or another. Actually, It looks like Friedrich (Frederic) lived in Dupage County when he and his family first arrived in the States in 1873 on the ship Prince Albert from Germany to New YOrk. It shows that he was naturalized while living in Dupage Co. I have Frederic's death cert, which doesn't tell anything new. Could you help me document my quest. Thank you , Erna

Her son allso died and his name was James and husband has also passed away so if you could find any thing on them would appreciate it. Can't say if they were in Oak Park or not. The County starts with a c or could it be cook county. I just know they were in Chicago. They have all passed away and the daughter-in-law and granddaughter is still there but I don't know there names.
We were never around them any. Just aunt Edith nad Uncle Lotsie, and their son James aka Jimmy.

We lived in Oak Park on 1847 Newcastle Avenue. My dad owned Portgage Park Realty. We lived across the street from the Anderson family. Gails sister married Bill Becker next store. I went to Sayre School. I have done all our genealogy

When did your ancestors come to Chicago? early 1900's through the 1930's or maybe early 40's
Any surnames you want to list? (Searchable!) Hartman, Seymour,
Comments:
These two are my "brick wall". I'd love to find an obituary for Harriet and John Hartman or any other information! They lived at 4936 N.(or W?) Erie Street in Chicago, Illinois in 1931, but which must have "become" Oak Park or else they moved to Oak Park after that date, because some of her correspondence items/envelopes from that time period in her own hand list Chicago. The postmark lists "Austin Station".

Who are your Oak Park ancestors? Frank Casurella (born 1923)
When did your ancestors come to Chicago? 1890's?
Comments:
We're having trouble finding out the original spelling of our last name. My great-grandparents (Rocco and Theresa) came from Trivigno, Italy (near Naples). Somewhere along the way, they lost the original spelling of the last name. My great-uncle, Joseph Casurella, was born in Italy in 1888 or 89. My grandfather, Frank, was born in Chicago in 1896. I've tried researching passenger manifests from Naples to NY, but haven't found anything; this project seems hopeless!

My grandparents John William and Fredericka Spohnholtz nee Eggebrecht, lived at 514 Clarence street. My father went to Oak Park high school and an uncle either Walter or Harry was on the police force. There was a breach in the family and I never knew any of my uncles. I am now trying to find as much about my family as possible. There is a park I think down on Lake street, that has a war an old war memorial in it and one of my uncles name on it. I am 65 years old now and wish I'd asked more questions while my father was still alive.

Any surnames you want to list? (Searchable!) John M. McBride; Catherine C. McBride; Catherine McBride; Harvey McBride; Thomas Edward McBride
Comments:
John M. McBride was an attorney. John was born in Elgin IL, and his father was Thomas and Rebecca Robinson McBride. Thomas and the other sons in the family eventually operated almost 20 businesses in the Elgin area. John and his wife, Catherine "Kitty" McBride (my great great aunt) left the Elgin area around 1878, traveled to Omaha NE to be married then moved to Miles City MT, where he was a probate judge, Justice of the Peace and attorney. His brother-in-law who married my other great great aunt (Maj. Abernethy and Mary Downey Grover) was appointed by Grover Cleveland to be US Land Office Dir for the Montana Territory. The period they were there corresponds to the real wild west you read about in books.
Maj. Grover died in 1894, and John and Kitty McBride moved back to the Elgin area some time between 1894-1896. By 1907 they listed Chicago as their address.

Who are your Oak Park ancestors? (John Carl) Chas Meyer; Elisabeth Wille
When did your ancestors come to Chicago? June 1872
Any surnames you want to list? (Searchable!) Meyer, Wille
Comments:
My great grandfather, John Carl MEYER who went by Chas. Meyer was born on December 31, 1838 in Eldena, Mecklenburg, Germany. My great grandmother, Elisabeth Wille, was born on April 8, 1852 and said they were from Hansen, Uelzen, Luneburg, Niedersachen, Germany. We donot know where she was born. Chas and Elisabeth came to New York on the ship Vandalia from Hamburg on May 4, 1872 arriving on May 27, 1872. We find them married at the First Zion Lutheran Church downtown in Chicago on September 28, 1872. They left the Chicago area
and went to Clayton County, IA around 1874.

Elisabeth's father, Heinrich Wille, worked for Lewis Balgamon as a farm hand in York Twp.,DuPage County, Illinois, in 1880. He was 59 at that time. We do not know what happened to her mother, Dora Wille born 1830-31, and two brothers, Wihle Wille born 1862-63 and Fr Wille born 1866. (William and Frederick ?) They were on the ship with Elisabeth but we are unable to find any documents with them here in the US except the arrival manifest.

John Carl (Chas.) Meyer had a brother Frederick Meyer who also went to Clayton County, IA but we do not know if he went to Chicago.

We would appreciate any help anyone could give us in finding the WILLE family in particular.
