Great Site!
My GGG Grandfather was a Dr. Jerome Humphrey Hardcastle born 1840 in Ohio but he lived in Caroline and Cecil County MD and died in DE. His parents AdalaideJosephine Humphrey and Thomas Hardcastle were married in PA Thomas was the son of a William M Hardcastle of MD. I know my family had ties to Caroline County MD and surrounding area. On the 1860 census he (Jerome) was in the home of Dr. Alexander Hardcastle, his wife, William and Anne and another William Hardcastle age 50? who is listed as a schoolteacher. Jerome married Sallie W Minter from Bedford County VA and they had 4 daughters and 1 son a Thomas H Hardcastle. My GG grandmother was Elizabeth Humphrey Hardcastle who married Joel Parker Crittenden of Philadelphia and they had 3 daughters and 2 sons one of them was my Great grandmother Elizabeth Crittenden.
I know that there is a family connection to your Thomas but I cannot find the proof. My great grandmother told us stories she had heard as a child about the ancestor who had immigrated and that among the things he had brought with him were a grandfather clock, the bricks to build a house and a wagon. The story is also told that when the family lost the farm it (would have been after the civil war) it was bought by a northern family named Kelly and that they grew strawberries exclusively for the Waldorf Astoria Hotel. Does this ring any bells for you?
Any information or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Don Hines from Midland sent me this address and I was happy to get it.
I am looking for some Hines to fix some holes in my information, one is a young girl named May M. Hines who lived in Waverly, Mo, in 1883, 1884, and was a cousin to my Grandfather, Martin Samuel Hines, son of Martin Davis Hines. I have a number of the letters she wrote to my grandfather, referring to him as "Cousin Sammie" but we can't figure out who she belongs to. She was about 16 at the time.
We are temporarily in Washington state, but moving home this summer to Athens, Texas, and at that point I plan to take a trip to Missouri to do more research on her.
Don Hines has given me a lot of information, and I am new at this, so some of my efforts are pretty clumsy!

Kelly, you have a great page! I sure wish I could have found a Melinda Hardcastle in all those that you have. My GGG Grandfather, James Moore, b. @1797 SC/NC, supposedly married a Melinda Hardcastle in the early 1820s; perhaps in Hardeman and/or Rutherford Co., Tn. I'm not sure if it was his first or second wife, because he shows up in Fannin Co., Tx. 1850, with a wife named Cynthia. Somehow mixed up in all this puzzle is a James Hardcastle who died in Hardeman Co., Tn. in and around 1832-33, with a widow named Melinda. The person who gave me the name of Melinda Hardcastle as a possibility for a wife for my James Moore is no long living, so I am left to just hunt and hunt!
Thanks for your page anyway; I may need it someday!

Hardcastle Kinfolks?
Please bear with me. This is my first time in trying to trace my mother's side of the family. I have no pertinent information on Sarah E. Hardcastle. Exception: Sarah born and died in Bowling Green, KY. She Married John Knowles Motley. He was born in Motley, KY, died in Bowling Green, KY.
They had four children -- 3 daughters and 1 son, Herschel Matthew Motley, born 12/22 in late 1800's, in Bowling Green, KY. He was my grandfather. One sister was Sadie?, another Vida? not sure of spelling. As of this time, I do not know the other sister's name.
Herschel Matthew Motley married Ethel Clara Brunson, Bowling Green, KY. Ethel Clara Brunson family names were BRUNSON AND CLAYPOOL (Allen Co/Bowling Green, KY). They had two children, Murat Brunson Motley and Allie Claypool Motley (my mother).
I would appreciate hearing from anyone with information relating to the above named ancestors.
Sincere regards,
Bonnie Carnesi

My husband is the Hardcastle descendant, however I have had the name for almost 40 years and have gotten to know the family through research and feel like I belong. Like Kelly all Hardcastles are of interest but I would like to connect with some descendants of Shadrach Hardcastle b 1785 and his wife Dola (Dolly).
