Primary Ancestor Focus Malinda F. Baughman Draper
Our Common Ancestor Peter William Baughman, her father
Comments:
Hi Kelly,
Stumbled across your Hardcastle/Kerr Kinfolks page looking for Malinda F. Baughman Draper (1853-1885), one of your Civil War grandmothers who lived in northern Arkansas, and who married Robert Draper (1847-1922).
We have a wonderfully documented and detailed line for Malinda's ancestors going back to 1628 in Switzerland. Her father was Peter William Baughman (my great-great grandfather) and her mother was his first wife Rebecca, a full-blooded member of the Blackfoot tribe of Native Americans who was killed during the war. (Now you can see where the name of Robert & Malinda's first daughter came from!) Peter's 2nd wife, married circa 1863, was Robert Draper's older sister Esther J. Draper. (I know, it gets a little tricky to follow on your first hearing...)
Next year will be the 300th anniversary of the 1st person ever named Baughman to have arrived in America. His original surname had been Bachmann, and he settled in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, best known as Amish country.
Several books of our Baughman family history spell all of this out, but I'll be glad to boil it down for you, too. You can find really interesting stories about how they survived the war, and their colorful lives in Arkansas dating back to the 1840s and 50s, as recorded circa 1900 by the Ozark historian Silas Claborn Turnbo. There are five good long books that you can download from this website, and they're all absolutely free:

Great Site!
My GGG Grandfather was a Dr. Jerome Humphrey Hardcastle born 1840 in Ohio but he lived in Caroline and Cecil County MD and died in DE. His parents AdalaideJosephine Humphrey and Thomas Hardcastle were married in PA Thomas was the son of a William M Hardcastle of MD. I know my family had ties to Caroline County MD and surrounding area. On the 1860 census he (Jerome) was in the home of Dr. Alexander Hardcastle, his wife, William and Anne and another William Hardcastle age 50? who is listed as a schoolteacher. Jerome married Sallie W Minter from Bedford County VA and they had 4 daughters and 1 son a Thomas H Hardcastle. My GG grandmother was Elizabeth Humphrey Hardcastle who married Joel Parker Crittenden of Philadelphia and they had 3 daughters and 2 sons one of them was my Great grandmother Elizabeth Crittenden.

I know that there is a family connection to your Thomas but I cannot find the proof. My great grandmother told us stories she had heard as a child about the ancestor who had immigrated and that among the things he had brought with him were a grandfather clock, the bricks to build a house and a wagon. The story is also told that when the family lost the farm it (would have been after the civil war) it was bought by a northern family named Kelly and that they grew strawberries exclusively for the Waldorf Astoria Hotel. Does this ring any bells for you?

Any information or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I'm trying to find out about my Father's side of the family... My Dad's Father, Orville Edward Hardcastle died 1972 (we think) I guess he had many siblings (don't know any of them), he married my grandmother, Virgina Evelyn Shufelt in the late 30's (I think) and they were divorced around 1955. My Grandmother sadly died several years ago, I've never known my Grandfather. My Grandfather remarried an Evelyn Gray and they had a girl Kathryn (born around 1956?)...

I live in Orange County, California, my name is Tiffany Champion (Hardcastle is my maiden name), my Father, Brett Techumsah Hardcastle (son of Orville) lives in San Diego, California, his brother (son of Orville) Lance Hardcastle, lives in Marshall, NC. My Fathers children: Me, my Sister, Meghan Cressy-Hardcastle lives in Oxnard, California, and my Brother Todd Kasperowski (was adopted by his step-Father) lives in Chicopee, MA. My Uncle Lance Hardcastle does not have children. I would love to find out if anyone knows of where my Grandfather's side of the family now resides. If you know anything, please e-mail me :) Thank you, Tiffany

I'll leave it to you PROs and check back from time to time. Feel free to contact me with anything you find (like an inheritance that I may never have claimed :0) HAHA!!

I was raised in Devine Tx (Medina & Frio counties) and lived in that area for the first 37 years of my life until moving to Houston 2 years ago to pursue a career. My grandmother Jewel just turned 80 last year and is in nearly prefect health. Her brothers Bill and Buster are her only remaining siblings. Buster lives in Pearsall Tx and is in fair health. Her brother Bill lives at Livingston Tx. about 45 miles north of greater Houston Tx.

Hi. Great site! I am researching Alonzo Burton who went to the Denmark Congregational Church in Denmark Iowa, in the middle 1800s. He also was a signer of the first Abolitionist Constitution in Iowa. I, and some others, from the Denmark Historical Society are doing this work. We are trying to locate some descendants. While I didn't see an Alonzo Burton in this genealogy, I did see an Alonzo "Burton" and I am thinking that just maybe this is a descendant of the Alonzo Burton that I am researching.Thank you to whomever responds. I think Elijah was born in Mont Carmel, South Carolina, as was his wife, Elizabeth. This is as far back as I can document. Thank you for sharing your work. (It's not really work though, is it? About You or Your Ancestor Martin Davis was my Great Great Grandfather
Comments:
Don Hines from Midland sent me this address and I was happy to get it.
I am looking for some Hines to fix some holes in my information, one is a young girl named May M. Hines who lived in Waverly, Mo, in 1883, 1884, and was a cousin to my Grandfather, Martin Samuel Hines, son of Martin Davis Hines. I have a number of the letters she wrote to my grandfather, referring to him as "Cousin Sammie" but we can't figure out who she belongs to. She was about 16 at the time.
We are temporarily in Washington state, but moving home this summer to Athens, Texas, and at that point I plan to take a trip to Missouri to do more research on her.
Don Hines has given me a lot of information, and I am new at this, so some of my efforts are pretty clumsy!

Mary was daughter of Elisha Hardcastle the son of William Hardcastle. His wife was Mary___________. William was in Johnston Co.NC>He d/bef 1777.

Things got in the way and I was kinda tired working on the tree. So About the only thing I remember is two children moved into Ky. and they were of our line.

Since I have bought a computer, I have been surfing I ran into the English Hardcastle and there are large families and well to do it seems. I only read part of thier history.

The Virginia info came from a Parrish Book.

About You or Your Ancestor Sarah Pate who m. Cornelius Smith
Comments:
Abemilec Pate seems to have been born in Georgia. He served in the War of 1812 in a Ga. outfit. He moved to Al.and died there after 1832 & 1840, as died his wife, Susannah, who along with Amy, Elias, and Amanda were members of the Baptist Church, then in Butler Co. Court house burned. Few Records. Amy married James Hardcastle who was a brother to Eli Hardcastle who married Susan Pate. Am interested in all descendants of these two couples in compiling Pate history. Have been researching when possible since 1974. Have visited Milam, Robertson, Medina, Frio, Zavala, LaSalle, Coryell, Kerr,Atascosa, Bell, and possibly other counties where these Hardcastles lived, going to courthouses and cemeteries, etc. to collect infomation as well as meeting quite a few of the descendants. Kelly and I plan to meet soon and exchange information which she will eventually use here but I'll welcome correspondence from any of you. My postal address is 1410 Flynn Street, Killeen, Texas 76543-7312. I'm especially interested in photos of ancestors and descendants as well as copies of any documents: birth, death, marriage, military service, etc. certificates, and any items from newspapers about these folks--birth, obits, marriages, retirement, accidents, school news, or whatever.

About You or Your Ancestor Melinda Hardcastle
Comments:
Kelly, you have a great page! I sure wish I could have found a Melinda Hardcastle in all those that you have. My GGG Grandfather, James Moore, b. @1797 SC/NC, supposedly married a Melinda Hardcastle in the early 1820s; perhaps in Hardeman and/or Rutherford Co., Tn. I'm not sure if it was his first or second wife, because he shows up in Fannin Co., Tx. 1850, with a wife named Cynthia. Somehow mixed up in all this puzzle is a James Hardcastle who died in Hardeman Co., Tn. in and around 1832-33, with a widow named Melinda. The person who gave me the name of Melinda Hardcastle as a possibility for a wife for my James Moore is no long living, so I am left to just hunt and hunt!

Thanks for your page anyway; I may need it someday!

Hardcastle Kinfolks?

Please bear with me. This is my first time in trying to trace my mother's side of the family. I have no pertinent information on Sarah E. Hardcastle. Exception: Sarah born and died in Bowling Green, KY. She Married John Knowles Motley. He was born in Motley, KY, died in Bowling Green, KY.

They had four children -- 3 daughters and 1 son, Herschel Matthew Motley, born 12/22 in late 1800's, in Bowling Green, KY. He was my grandfather. One sister was Sadie?, another Vida? not sure of spelling. As of this time, I do not know the other sister's name.

Herschel Matthew Motley married Ethel Clara Brunson, Bowling Green, KY. Ethel Clara Brunson family names were BRUNSON AND CLAYPOOL (Allen Co/Bowling Green, KY). They had two children, Murat Brunson Motley and Allie Claypool Motley (my mother).

I would appreciate hearing from anyone with information relating to the above named ancestors.

Sincere regards,

Bonnie Carnesi
