I am looking forward to joining this organization. I believe that my 4th great grandmother, Mourning Hawthorn/Newberry, lived in Robeson County from at least the time of the 1830 census, and died sometime between the 1880-1900 censuses.
The name Hawthorn seems to change to Newberry, without explanation, between 1850 and 1860.

I have communicated with Sam West in the past. I submitted information for the past heritage book and have a lot more for future issues. My descendants came from Scotland and settled in Robeson Co. about 1793. They moved to the Shannon, Lumber Bridge area. My research has shown some became businessmen in the Lumberton area. One of my ancestors was murdered in 1891 and it lead to the most famous murder trial in the state. The trial was moved from Robeson Co. to Fayetteville and a book was written by two reporters for the Fayetteville Observer. The name of the book is: The Trial of D.A. McDougald for the Murder of Simeon Conoly at Fayetteville, NC. I found a copy at the Duke University Library and have retyped it. Don Conoly dconoly@mindspring.com

What would be the easiest way for me to find out about my 4th great grand father?
Stephen Barfield lists Robeson County, NC as where he was born in 1815. He died in Bradley County, Arkansas around 1877, but as to who his parents are, I don't know.
They didn't start putting the entire family on a census until around 1840 or 1850.
Is there anyone who could help me find out more of the Barfield family?

Maynard has been mispelled many different ways. Any help would be appreciated. Would like to find his parents name to trace back the Maynard name.

I have been reading everything i can get my hands on via websites and books pertaining to Robeson, Cumberland and Bladen Counties. I have relatives that date one of their lineages (McDougald) back to Robeson and Cumberland Counties. I just find it interesting and pass on to them when i find anything that will help their genealogy research. Daniel McDougald left Robeson/Cumberland ca 1810 for Mississippi or Alabama through Indian Lands in Georgia. It would be wonderful to discover any information regarding Daniel McDougald and to whom he was married. I do not know her name. I have enjoyed your site.
Sincerely,
Gwen Quickel

I live in Kansas City and am a collector of Parker shotguns, a high grade gun for the gentleman sport. I have come across a small 20ga high grade Parker configured for a woman. Research shows that the gun was ordered in 1911 by M L Howard of Halifax, Nova Scotia with required delivery before Dec 18 to him in Red Springs. The gun was given to his fiancee' at Christmas. They married and she accompanied him to Halifax, where she passed away in her 80's. The gun is well worn by her hands. Mr Howard appears to be part of a weathy and important grocery and food business family in Halifax. I would like to find whom he married and any details available on her and her family. These Parker guns are fascinating for their provenence and as we collect, we like to be able to tell the story of the gun. I like to think of this gun as a pretty little feminine gun for a lovely young woman.
