My 9th great grandfather, Deacon Thomas Porter, Sr. was, along with Timothy Stanley, among the founders of Hartford.
Their children; Thomas Porter, Jr. and Lois Stanley, married and settled in Farmington. Both were my 8th great grandparents through their only son, Deacon Timothy Porter and his wife, Susanna Bull.
Thank you so much for sharing your information on my Stanley genealogy and heritage. I began my Porter family research decades ago, when the only way to find information was to spend hours in the library. My Great Uncle, Adm. Emory Day Stanley (800), son of Charles Castle Stanley (693) and Grandson of Charles Whiting Stanley (400), compiled the First Supplement (1924) to the Rev. I.P Warren's original 1887 work "Stanley Families of Ameica" as well as the revised and updated (1946) "First Supplement". The Second Supplement (1946 - 1967) was then compiled by my father, John Jay Stanley (1005.) I am listed as number 1224 in that Second Supplement.

9/29/2005 I have a copy of Jeremiah Smith Stanley's 7 children's birth dates from a bible. There is a notation that I can't decipher but indicates that the first three dates may not be correct. The Stanley published book lists 4 of Jeremiah Smith Stanley and Betsey Sizer's children. I am descended from one of the 3 other children not listed. These are the dates and children listed as follows:
Joseph Stanley born July 11, 1832
Richard S. Stanley born June 26, 1833
Mary Stanley born Oct. 6, 1835
Amanda M. Stanley born Dec. 29, 1839
John V. Stanley born Aug. 7, 1842
Katherine Stanley born Jan. 13, 1845
Emma Stanley born Dec. 8, 1847
I am a descendent of John V. Stanley. His son was Saragosa Frank Stanley born Nov. 3, 1879 or 1880 in Picacho, CA. Saragosa's son was my father, Dr. John Frank Stanley M.D. born April 2, 1908 in Yuma, Arizona Territory and I am Pamela Karen Stanley born August 28, 1937. I am able to share my genealogy charts with whoever might be interested.

The Stanley connection is with Fred's great-grandmother- Martha Stanley, dau. of Amon & Abi North Stanley, b. 8/11/1822, d. 12/13/1868. We have letters written by her and her husband Augustus William North during their stay in Shely AL when Augustus was "reconstructing" a steel mill and other operations during 1868 and later. Not only do the letters address what he was doing to rebuild the steel works destroyed by Northern troops, but they also address what it was like for a couple when the wife was dying of breast cancer. Fascinating reading- it will eventually be a book.
