Comments:	My great great grandmother was Minnie Wickers who I knew when I was small. My great grandmother and great grandfather were Jennie and Harry Lammin, and my grandmother was Minnie Ettery(Lammin). My Dad's family were called Craven and lived in Poplar, nr Crisp Street not far from where the Wickers lived in St Leonards Road and Wyvis Street.

Comments:	Piddington - Large extended family living/working in Trinity Row,Orchard House,Blackwall,& Poplar from at least 1840's onwards. All probably too old to have gone to Bow Creek School. Worked for Mr James Cummins at Poplar & also Thames Iron works. Can anyone out there remember the name? Great Site - thoroughly enjoyed looking through it

Comments:	Brilliant site. Found grandfather's side of family John Stewart McGee b.1891 son of Joseph McGee abt. 1864 (Glasgow) who lived at 5 Creekside, 27 Orchard Street, etc. but nothing on grandmother's side (Emily Etall Jackson b. 1889). Would love to hear from anyone who knows anything about the family including the Jacksons(originally from Bristol) or the Frasers (originally from Aberdeen)

Comments:	Wonderful stuff - love the Gosnell and Marsh links! Ernest Augustus Stewart and Amy Mary Gosnell are my great great grandparents. I've always wanted to know when the Stewarts came from Scotland... apparently quite a long time ago. Anyway thought you might be interested to know (if you don't already) - Their son Ernest William Stewart emigrated to New Zealand where he married his English fiance Dorothy Case, they had 3 sons, the eldest John Gosnell Stewart (my grandfather). Cheers for all the research.

Comments:	Hello Christine, Have you ever come across the british history online site. The link to Fowlers on Bow Creek is www.british-history.ac.uk/report.aspx?compid=46545&strquery=fowlers and from that page you can navigate to other aspects of Bow Creek history. I was there last year, and took a photo of the 'building site'. My GGgrandfather Spere Farreige, ( Maltese, prob. Spiro Farrugia) lived a couple house numbers away, and relatives by marriage to his children, Hill, Cavanagh, Twyman and Chapman are all listed in other properties in Orchard Place in 1901. My brother and I have been researching for over 10 years, and Geoff Matthews kindly linked our tree to this most useful site. Please get in touch if you think we can share any info. Geoff

Comments:	My grandfather, Robert Drew and his wife Eliza (nee Tyler) lived at 9 Salters Buildings from their marriage in 1903. Eliza's parents and her brother also lived there with them. All Robert and Eliza's living children were born there including Eliza Ellen (1904), Robert (1907), Thomas William (1910), James George (my father, 1913) and Herbert Samuel (1916). The Eliza, Robert and James appear in the attendance registers for Bow Creek School. My grandmother, Eliza Drew (nee Tyler) died November 1918 from the Spanish 'flu epidemic. I am not sure but I believe that her parents also died at that address too (maybe of the 'flu also) - Thomas towards end of 1918 and Eliza towards end of 1919. I wouold be interestedc in finding out more about the domestic arrangements - two familys both at 9 Salters Buildings.

Comments:	My grandmother, Ethel Ann Joyce and her first husband either worked in or ran a pub in Orchard Place round about 1917, my grandmother having been born in the area (she was the sister of Elizabeth Florence Joyce, so I'm related to Fred Verrando: see entry for 2008-01-06 below - hi Fred!). Not sure of the pub's name, so I'd welcome any suggestions. I'm still trying to establish whether my father (b.1919) went to the school: there is no-one with the surname Burton listed (Ethel's second husband).

Although my family did not come from 'The Orchard Place' we did know a lot about the families who did. This is because we moved from Lime house in 1939 to Oban House. I was aged two. I am actually in the photo called 'Oban House Kids' - in the front at the middle a little white haired girl with an orange in her hand. This photo was not taken in 1937 but about 1941/42. I have always believed the party was in aid of a Great Victory during the war and the oranges most of us are holding came over from America. |It was probably the first time that most of the children had seen an orange in their lives. Comments:	My great grandmother was Charlotte Liston b. 1863. Father Victor, brother John. She married John Gustave Rewers in 1891. My grandfather John Victor Rewers born there 1892. I know they were very poor. Daughter Eleanor Alice 1895-6 lived only one year. Charlotte died 1905. John remarried a Clara (Liston?) and emigrated to Ontario Canada. He was a Swedish subject and a merchant seaman working out of the docks in London. I am happy to find a site like this that gives me more of a picture of their lives. Perhaps Charlotte even attended the school.

The Scanlans,Lammins and the Jefferies moved to Oban House from Orchard Place. I was born at number 77 Oban House in 1948, this stands on the site of the school. Don't believe the A to Z maps,as they showed a school into the 70's. One or two of the Scanlans are still living.

Comments:	Correction have now traced that the family (Lewis) were at 42 Orchard Place (Not 29). Before my Great Grandmother married she worked in the Ironbridge Tavern as a Barmaid and that is where she met my Great Grandfather who was born in Stepney.

Comments:	William WHITE, father of Elsie (#1305) & Arthur (1227) was prominent in barge building and esteemed from "top to bottom of the Thames." He played football for the St. Luke's F.C. (Beckton Road), which later became Excelsior, then Old St. Luke's, from which sprang the Thames Ironworks Club ("The Hammers), and later West Ham United F.C. He was appointed to the Board of Directors of West Ham United in 1903, became Vice-Chairman in1907 and Chairman in 1909. He remained as President and Chairman of the Board until his death in 1934. By then the WHITE family barge interests were under the management of his son Arthur, until being wound up circa 1939.

I have just spent a lovely hour its a great site and I am pretty sure I have found Rons Grandfather William Pender only difference in his date of birth is he was born 15th Sept 1888 you have 18th think thats close enough, . Underneath is Annie Pender entry1353 I am a little confused as it says date of birth 16th October 1899 and entry to school 05 June 1899 she must have been a clever girl went to school before she was born!! if it is Williams Sister I believe she was born c1886 but that would make her older than usual or am I wrong? great site put it in my favourites sandie

Some of my Family came from Old Canning Town, this enclave was located between the River Lea and the Canning Town Station railway lines, the Iron Bridge commenced at the entrance to Old Canning Town. Comments:	Fascinating subject. Found the pages while researching for a future model of Iron Bridge and surroundings, particularly the tramway and old changeover point at Abbott Road pre-1932. My father took me to see the remains in the 1970s. Old family connections are that I remember visiting my Great-Grandmother in Percy Road, Canning Town in the early 1960s, and my Great Grandfather was a Riveter at Thames Ironworks and worked on HMS Thunderer, launched in 1911.

Comments:	Just to say I've enjoyed wandering around your site! I'm about to publish a book on the Thames Iron Works FC, stopping at the point when they became West Ham United. It would be interesting to visit the site of the works, but Eileen's account has rather put me off! If I can sort out the reproduction fees, I may include a picture of one of the ships being built in the yard. There are a number of such photos, taken over a 20 year period, but always from the same vantage point - high up and to the east of the yard. I'm curious to know where the photographers stood! The football team at the works ran from 1895 to 1900. In the latter years there was a big influx of professional players from all over the place. The first few seasons relied on local chaps in the works, some of whom may have attended the local schools I suppose. Anyway, 'well done' on the site! Curiously, Geoff, I too live in Nottingham! Comments:	Interesting to learn of my aunt Esther Woods (nee Lammin) being known as the "baby lady". My father Harry Lammin was born at 15 Orchard Place in 1897. E.Lammin was present at his birth and also registered the birth. Charles and Harriet Lammin had both died by the time that my Dad was 11 or 12 years old and then Esther looked after him and Aunt Mag. Innterestingly, if you go through the School register and check the in occupants of 15 Orchard Place over subsequent years you will find that the Woods also lived there and after that the Louey family. I am given to believe that Eliza Lammin was married to George Louey.

Comments:	My mother Lucy Matlida Taylor (known locally as Lockett) was born 23rd September 1924 at 26 Orchard Place (in a room rented from Mr. & Mrs. Jock Reid) and was delivered by the "baby lady" Mrs. Esther Woods. She was named after her God parents Lucy Rolands and Tilly Lammins. My mother attended Bow Creek school along with her siblings, Steve, Maggie, Alfred (Giggy), Stan, and Bill. My grandmother (mum's mum) was Louisa Jesse Nichols, who married Stephen Taylor in 1911, moving to Orchard Place towards the end of 1923. My mum's friends from Orchard Place included Dolly Chapman, Mary Taylor, & Nellie Scanlon. I have a lot of information on people and the area from my mothers many stories. She is still alive today and living in Barking.

Comments:	I have details on the Wolverhampton Hills, who moved into Orchard House in the mid 1880's, right back to the 1780's. Eliza Hill nee Farreige is my grandmother, she "married" Luke Hill in the 1890's and had 3 children by him. Luke had previously been married to Ann Scanlan in 1887, and Eliza to Henry Twyman, but Ann and Henry both are absent from 1901 Census. Anyone know where they went? Any info on all this would be gratefully received. I have a great photo of Luke, Eliza & children c.1907 if anyone wants a copy (I don't yet have a scanner).

Comments:	My brother Peter and I were plodding along quite nicely investigating our Farr(ei)(ie)dge (derivation of Ferridge) line when I came across this excellent, but wickedly diversionary site in a computer magazine a couple of months ago! We have since found links by marriage with Bood (Booth), Boxall, Chapman and Twyman families, all of whom lived in the Bow Creek area.There appeared to be some very short and sad lives by todays standards. Also a link through a second marriage with the Hill family. Although there were Marshalls living in the area, geographically very close, we have not yet been able to establish a link with them, although it is about the right period. Thanks to Geoff Matthews for his enthusiasm and assistance, and for those who originally contributed to the site.

Comments:	I have just read some of the entries on the guest book and it has really made my day. Jackie Lammin who posted, is, it appears the daughter of my great uncle John. He was the brother of my grandfather Joseph Lammin, who was the eldest son of Joseph and Tiny Lammin. When my grandmother, Annie, died, I lived with my grandad for many years after, and used to listen to all the stories. It was great to read the post from Dennis Lammin, as I hadn't heard the name "Aunt Mag" since the death of another of grandads' brothers, Charlie. They all used to say life was hard, but had a lot of affection for the time they were there. Talking about "The wall" and when the "Ironbridge Tavern" was still a pub. I will try to dig up some of the pictures I have, as I am sure I have at least one with great grandad Joe with his siblings, aunt Mag included. If I can find them I will scan them in. If Jackie is uncle Johns' daughter, hello. I don't think I have seen her since my dad Ian, used to take us to visit, I was about five or six then. If anyone has any stories regarding "Buller" please post them, as my grandad used to have me in stitches with laughter at them. All the best, Colin Lammin.

Comments:	It was interesting to see that the Orchard Place is onb the internet, considering that now the only thing on Orchard place now is Pura Foods and a couple of new developments. It would be nice if the site developed more to show some of the old pictures of people living in Orchard Place and some background of the families that lived thereon, such as the Lammin, Jeffries, Fielder and Scanlon Families. From stories my grandad used to tell, they loved life whilst they were there. He refused to let me show it to him some years ago, to show him how it had changed. He is sadly passed now, so the stories are no longer there to be recounted. Your site was enjoyable to visit, thanks.

Comments:	Janine is my daughter now living in the USA.Most of her research has been done on the interet. Mine from the FRO. My father Henry was born at 15 Orchard Place according to his birth certificate. His parents were Charles and Harriet[formerly Hurley]Lammin. At the time Charles was a labourer at Oil Works.E.Lammin was present at Harrys'birth. Our Oral History. By the age of 12 Harry was orphaned and brought by his eldest sister Eliza along with his sister Margaret[Aunt Mag].He married my mother after WW1 and moved in with her parents in Wyvis St. Poplar. OTHER LAMMINS David Lammin moved to Swindon around WW1. Nellie emigrated to Canada at about the same time.She frequently returned to England to visit the family. My family moved to Swindon around WW2. From my earliest memories we always spent the 2 week summer holidays at my sister Minnies in Forest Gate and go to see Uncle Joe and Aunt Tiny [as we knew her]in a block of flats called Oban House in Oban St. Aunt Mag lived around the corner in Portree St. I have just come into some Photos belonging my sister Minnie showing my parents,Joseph and wife,brother John and Richard and sisters Ann,Nell and Margaret. At some point I will make this available to all those connected to the Lammin family. There is lots more.

I see that my cousin, Ron Manhood, has already visited this guestbook and left a note about Nathaniel Manhood. Nathaniel was brother to my great grandmother, Emma Manhood. In 1881 Emma married Henry James Hill and in 1884 and 1886 when they baptised their children in All Saints church their address is shown as 2 and 10 Leamouth Place respectively. His father Nathaniel died at 2 Orchard House Pl in Jan 1864 and his sister Sarah died there in Nov 1863 age 10 yrs. He became a seaman and in about 1880 came to Australia & settled.
