Just doing a general internet search on Barlow Letch + Chicken and I came across your website. My ancestry comes down through William Chicken and Ann Nixon and their daughter
Margaret who married William Cheeseman in Newburn in 1792. I think you have just taken me back several generations. Thank you.

Hi my name is Roger Julien and I am trying to trace my family history!! I stumbled across my great grandfathers name ELIJAH JULIER although its found it's way down to JULIEN (my grandfathers name)!!I found his name on google on a family history site referring to ironworks or foundry!! I am not sure of the link with this but my greatgrandfather is listed as a descendent. He was born in Caistor, Norfolk in 1841 and died in Dover, Kent in 1925 though your site refers to many juliers dying aft an early date for instance with Elijah given as AFT 1851 in railway station, Bradeston, norfolk, can you tell me what this means? About 10 people with the Julier surnames, probably siblings also shown as died at the railway station!! what does this mean!! I would love to know!! I also don't understand the connection with BOW CREEK etc, hope you can help me, many thanks Roger Julien.

Hellow Geoff, Your web site was brought to my attention by a contact I made via genes reunited with Susan Tudor- Coulson very recently. My great Grandmother was Annie Eliza McGlashon born 1843 and who apparently disappered in the 1861 census. By luck, another of my contacts, Pam Coward discovered Annie incorrectly named as MRS Grashon in service with the Jones Family at Lea Place (no 5 we think). When I accessed the census page I looked at the page before and after and discovered that Annie's family lived at Wharf Cottage almost immediately in front of Lea Place.
I recently sent Susan some detail from the Old Ordnance Survey Map of Poplar and Canning Town 1867 and she in turn found your web site. Many thanks for making the information available. Kind regards, Richard Rouse, 1929) sent Wed Jan 23/2008

Dear Mr Matthews
Forgive me for using your guestbook as a means of making a personal inquiry.
Last Saturday I took part in an organised walk in London`s Dockland generally related to formar railway lines in the area. This included East India Dock area and a visit to Trinity Buoy Wharf. As a result of searching today for info. re. Pepper Warehouse , East India Dock I found your website with the work that you have done with Eileen Weston re Leamouth/Bow Creek. I met Eileen in the early 1990s when she was doing her research re. Coastguard service. My grandfather was in that service, died 1910. Several years later when she was involved with the Chicken family research we visited the Canning Town area together when she was concerned about pedestrian access to the Leamouth area.
As it is some years since my last contact with Eileen I am prompted to inquire whether you know if she is still active in respect of research work and mobility.
Sincerely
David Flood, 469 High Road South Benfleet, Essex SS7 5AE

Happy new year and how's tricks?
Bit cheeky, I know, but I've just been playing on ancestry.co.uk and my wife, Sue, has started pursuing her grand father, James Edward Long.

Any suggestions for a good website to follow-up this one?
Best wishes to you and the family.

My mother was a Corden and it appears from your Family tree that it is the same ancestory. My Gr Gr Grandfather was William Corden who married Jane Marris. My Gr Grandfather was George who immigrated to Canada and married Sarah Ann Jarvis. I do not have too much info on the siblings of William but I show the second son to be William Howard Corden (you show it as William Edward) . My info also said that William Howard was a very well known police inspector. I showed him as marrying Elizabeth - no last name but dates jive. I have nothing before William.

Message for Eileen Weston. Thank you for the interest you showed in Jean May's article about me in the News Shopper a couple of months ago. This was much appreciated. I have been contacted by someone from Erith but after studying photographs for facial characteristics, she does not seem to think I am after all one of her lost siblings. I do not know how much reliability can be placed on characteristics alone but so be it. Anyway I was interested to read about the nursery for foundling children in Ladywell. I do realise that people keep such secrets for their lifetime but also that they do often reveal them as death bed confessions or in papers left behind for the next generation to find. I am realistic that I am unlikely to find out anything about my birth family but nothing ventured nothing gained as they say.
With kind regards and thanks to Geoff for passing on this message. You may send me an email if you wish.
Kindest regards.

Read your article in Cockney Ancestor. A most interesting web site. My ancestors all came from Stepney and my grandfather Christopher Henry NUNN born Stepney 1867 attended Ben Jonson Board School, in 1886 he was confirmed at All Hallows, East India Dock Road and there is a Holy Communion Book inscribed by Arthur E. Dalton who was Curate of All Hallows. It does not appear that any records exist of the church which was bombed during the last war.
Keep up the good work.

I found your website through its publication in a genealogy newsletter I receive. The websites recommended are always worth a visit, but I was also interested in the East End aspect. My ROBERTS and HULBERT ancestors lived near the East India Dock area. Your site is very interesting as is the story of why you put it together. I particularly enjoyed seeing the photographs as I believe all the houses my ancestors lived in were slums and unfortunately have all gone. Thank you for your efforts.
