What a wonderful site! I am Oliver's GGG-Grandaughter through Hosea, John Bunyon, and Louis, and Roy Harris. I have been aware of this site for about a year, and have read all the diaries, Oliver's 3 times. What a wonderful gift he left for his family, and the family of everyone he mentioned in his diary. I am pretty new at genealogy, and have gotten so much help from so many wonderful people, which is how I found this site. Lately I have been trying to research the Harris wives. Want to give them an identity to. I would love to hear from any family and will share any info I have. Note:Love the casual mention of George Washington's funeral (Jan 1800)in Olivers diary.

See diary entries of Oliver Harris for February 27, 1831 and July 7, 1831. The "Mrs. Woollums" referred to in the first referenced entry may be my ancestor, Margaret (Art) Woolums who was married to William Woolums. I think the Mr. Woolums referred to in the 7/7/1831 entry is William Woolums so they died about six months apart. There is a probate record in Highland County in this time period for a JW Wolms and I suspect it is for William Woolums. Thanks for posting the diary because it is the only known source for the date of death for these two people.

A really great site, well organized, good information, and most creative! The New Market Baptist Church was founded by my g-g-g-grandfather William Vance. Nice coverage on your Web site. Thank you!

I am researching William & Rachel VANCE, their son Mintun J. VANCE (b. 1816 PA) and his wife Matilda TENER (b. 1816 OH). Matilda has been a particular challenge because of the various spellings of her surname and her age results in her not being identified by name in either the 1820 or 1830 Census. Will need help from TENER family descendants.

Researching the Grady family: The shades were also married into the Grady family. Here is a (partial) poem written about Joseph T. Shade (during Civil War) by Aaron Grady Born 1825
Last words of Joseph T. Shade WILLING TO DIE

Lines written on the death of Joseph T. Shade a soldier who died at Clarksburg Va.
August 10. 1863. By : Aaron Grady. Co. G. 91 Regt. O.V.I.
Far way from the household band
And the kindred he loved most dear
A soldier lay dying in an enemy’s land.
And none but strangers standing near.
But while each heart with grief was stirred
As they gazed on his closing eye
With joy from Joseph’s lips were heard,
The cheering words I’m willing to die.

If any one would like complete copy of this poem just let me know and I will email it to you.

Thanks - Mary

My 3rd great-grandmother was supposed to have been born in Highland Co., Ohio on February 22, 1804, and she was also supposed to have been married in Highland Co. Ohio, on March 30, 1821. I have not been able to confirm with any evidence if this is true - and to make matters worse there are discrepencies in her last name - maybe married before. Here is the info if anyone can confirm anything:
Elizabeth Ann Patrial (have also seen her name on the internet from other people as Daurity or Rhodes)
married Moses Hougham.

Thanks if anyone has any definitive proof of anything!

Comments:
Am looking for any Fowler's and Runyon's, but am looking specifically for information on Morgan M. Fowler. Born in Highland Co Abt. April 1846 to William and Jane (Runyon) Fowler (Morgan had 3 siblings: Mary Ann, John W., and Francis). Married Mary Jane Barnett in Oct 1868 in Allensburg. I have his death certificate but it has little info. I am really looking for his record of birth and marriage. Am also looking for any court proceedings and info on his death certificate was provided by his Probation Papers (he died at Athens State Hospital). I have been to Highland County but had a hard time trying to locate where I needed to be or who to contact for assistance. Some of the US Census list Fowler's living in New Market Twp. From Highland Co, I know they migrated to Clintin Co. I have most of that info.

I have barely scratched the surface of this site, but have already found wonderful information in Oliver Harris' diary. What a gem! And yes I agree, it is impossible for any Christian to miss the hand of God at work while reading the diary in its entirety. I was very moved last night, reading it into the wee hours. Please contact me if you have something to share, I don't know if other Boatman family members have found this site or not. The journeys of the Records and Vance families are part of my research, even though I am not sure exactly how they are connected to the Marquiss line yet. I am researching other names also. The society meetings were held in my 4Great-Grandfather, William Boatman's home - that Oliver spoke of, thank you.

Thank you, Joan, for posting the diaries and the genealogy of Oliver Harris (and his son Robert).

I especially like that you supplemented the entries from the Robert Harris diary with data regarding the various persons he mentioned from the New Market area.

It has been interesting to sort out information from the various sources we have encountered! I do hope to supplement the pieces with missing or incorrect data as time passes.
