I am tracing back my roots. Most Carpenters in my family lived and died in Upstate New York, many in and around Chautauqua, county. Many of them are buried in the Pioneer Cemetery in Blockville NY. I am obsessed with finding my paternal grandmother's gravesite. She is Nellie M.Carpenter (maiden name Adams) she died Sept 29, 1914 in North Collins, Erie County, New York. Records indicate she is buried in North Collins. I have the death certificate that was issued in North Collins. So far, I have not been able to locate the grave, there is about a 10+ year’s gap in the newspaper of that era, The Erie Independent so there are no obits. The only Funeral Director in town Wentland Funeral home has not found any thing. Also, spoke with the local Historian., no luck there either. I checked the available cemetary surveys, I did not find any Carpenters listed and only 2 Adams.

Great info!
My gg grandparents were John Gilbert Woodward (Woodard) and Mary Ann Shafer. They were married in Woodville, MS 5 Jan 1840. John was b. 1814 in Chautauqua, NY and Mary Ann, 1823 in Woodville (by some reports, LA, GA)
Their first son Gilbert died as an infant. Their second son Montcalen Fuqua was b. 13 Oct 1841 in Woodville; their third Caven was b. 20 Jul 1843 in Woodville.
Mary Ann had a sister Julia Fuqua, who married a Kearsey and later a Henning. I am, at this point, assuming their mother remarried to a Mr. Fuqua at Mary's early age--she must have had a good relationship with her stepfather because she used Fuqua in naming their son.
Now comes the name Caven (Cavin). I am wondering what the relationship was between the Woodward/Woodards & Cavins. They were in the same area at the same time. Any help with this will be greatly appreciated.
John & family moved to southwest TX in abt 1844/45. I know nothing about their lives before this time, except what I've mentioned.
It would be fun to know about the life/times of Woodville during their stay. Regards, Carol

Hi - I'm just beginning to research the Bruff side of my family, so thought I'd check out your site. My father was born in southwest Missouri in 1912. I wonder if there is any connection between Margaret of 1790 and the Missouri Bruffs? Someday we'll know.... Curious, and possibly an odd question, but was Margaret (and later descendants) white or black? My research so far has turned up a strong Bruff presence across the southern states, so I'm thinking that the name could have been taken on by slaves, etc.
Thanks, Jay

In my efforts to locate the family of Thomas Jasper Edwards and wife, Mary Elizabeth King, sister to Samantha A. King, wife of Samuel H. Drummond, I have located a Rev. W. Drummond in Oaklawn Cemetery in Comanche, Comanche, Texas.
This person moved from the S.C. Area where T.J. Edwards and his wife settled some toime around 1888-90.
I believe this W. Drummond was of the Methodist faith. His wife , whose name I cannot recall is also buried in this cemetery with an infant Drummond. Is it possible this could be one of the Drummond of your lineage?

I descend through Arah Drummond, daughter of Samuel H., son of Willaim Pinckney Drummond of Bartow Co. Georgia. He married Elizabeth Washington Delaney in the area of Pickens County (Old Pendleton District) South Carolina.
I suspect that the ancestry of P.G. Drummond is through one of the four sons, Jared; Ephrim , Jr.; Simpson; or Freeman, all sons of Ephrim and Polly Johnston. I would like to explore this assumption with you and other Drummond researchers of this family line.
With kind regards,
Charles Brightwell

Hello Carolyn,
You have done a great job with your entries. I am descended from Nathaniel and Lydia Kinnison, as well as Christopher and Margaret Guice. I'm also descended twice from Jacob and Susanna Guice. The Kinnison name has been spelled differently over time. I believe it was originally spelled Keniston or Kenniston. The T was dropped after the Boston Teaparty in which a David Keniston participated. Nathaniel and his brother, James Allen came to MS in 1773 with Christoper Guice and his family. Nathaniel married Priscilla, as I'm sure you know. We could compare information at your pleasure. Hope to hear from you. Terry Blackmon

I thought that I had told you before there was no way that
the Sarah who married William Brunson was related to any
John Frierson with dates 1727-97 (mine) or the other six
Johns in colonial south carolina.
In order not to perpetuate the misinformation please start
with some Sarah marrying Brunson and continue from there.
Thank you for your consideration.
I hate to sound preachy but there are spurious claims by
Byrds as well back to a John Frierson who is not mine and
the Lt. John Frierson (later Captain and Major in many
South Carolina land transactions) is neither of the first two.

I am especially interested in obtaining information about James McCurley(McCearley) who married Lucy Shropshire. He is my great grandfather. As far as I know they had one child, Thomas Chesney(Chesley)McCearley, my grandfather, born 1855 in Wilkinson Co MS. Old stories suggest James headed west. I can't find him or Lucy anywhere. The 1860 census of Wilkinson co shows Thomas Chesney in the Walter Shropshire household along with my other grandfather, David Nathan Cavin. I've just discovered your website. It is wonderful. You must be connected to some of these families. Great work, and thanks.

I recently became interested in researching my ancestors when my husband and I planned a trip to Ireland. He is 2nd generation Irish American on one side, so he can easily trace his roots to Ireland and knows where to find his family there. I wanted to be able to visit places that were significant to my family history as well. Little did I know how time consuming this research could be. I appreciate the research done by others, that has helped me to quickly trace my family back 8 generations or more, including those whose research created this site. Thank you.

I have explain to you several times that Malissa Jane Montgomery was not born 1849 she was born in 1948 and she was not born a Montgomery she was born a Bolin/Bowlin, Mary Ann Bolin/Bowlin had her out of Wedlock, you can check the census for her mother Mary Ann "Polly" Bolin/Bowlin Bragg[s] Montgomery, what proof do you have that she was Jesse Montgomery's daughter and the other lady was her mother I have checked the 1850 census and she was not listed in Jesse Montogmery's house only the other daughter Missouri was listed and if she was Jesse's daughter she would have been listed. I Know for a fact she was born in 1848 I have her death Certificate. and it states her birth and death date, you can all so check with a Rev. Parker he has the proof that Malissa was not a Montgomery, he is related to the Bowlin Family and he is all so working on the Bowlin Family genealogy, you need to check your records for this infomration again I would like to know what proof you have that she was born a Montgomery? Is there was a bible record or what is there I would like to know. And if there is a bible record I would like a copy of this record if you don't mind so I can put it with my records, But again would you please check and change your information on Malissa Jane Montgomery? She is our great grandmother.

Carolyn,
I am researching my Grandaddy John Byrd, wife: Alice Bedford. His mom was a Margarete ( or Margaret) Perideaux. I am 56 yrs and my Daddy died 13 yrs ago at 89 and his parents and grandparents died well before I was born. It seems that no one in the family kept records and is a shame. I intend to correct this for my kin. So this is now my life's work to find out all I can.
I only know that my Byrds lived in Alabama, Mississippi and they died in Milam County , Texas.
Do you know of these folks? I appreciate any help!
