From what I've learned on your page the two may have been related. Certainly the Ramseys were related to the Philpots and Yorks by marriage. I haven't sorted this detail out, but i understand it was about the Thurman woman.

My father was James Vernon Hall, son of James Marion Hall & Minnie Cannon Hall. James M was the son of John Gilbert Hall & Mary Shiver Hall.
I have a "copy of a copy" of Jacob Shiver's will that he handwrote and it has fascinated me for years since Daddy got the copy. My father passed away 2-6-90.

Mary has been working on her Mom's side of the family for many years. That would be Janice Ann Shiver Crews, my oldest sister. She is also working on her Dad's family (Crews) and her husband's (Kozy) -- not to mention anyone else's when she has a free moment. She's helped me find my husband's family census and even the manifest of the ship where his grandfather arrived in NY from Italy -- what a feeling!
She is an AVID (dare I say, obsessed?!) geneologist and LOVES TO SHARE information. She is presently scanning old photos of Mom's family, as she passed away Dec. 16, 2005, and we are holding Memorial Services Jan. 10, 2006, in Hayesville, NC, which we hopefuly will be using to share with folks who can attend.

I appreciate you hints about how to "guess" where ancestors might have come from, especially in your write up about the Shiver family. Apparently the Paynes and the Shivers were in close relationship to one another. I am hoping to find out where the Payne family that ended up in Kershaw County, SC might have migrated from. I had previously thought my ggg grandfather, Daniel Payne (b. abt 1770) was a son of Nehemiah Payne who migrated from Maryland to Edgefield, SC. But a Bible record turned up that squarely places Daniel Payne and his siblings (Archelaus, Zachariah, Keziah, Mary, Naomi, and Rachel) as children of John Payne (d. 1780) and his wife Elizabeth. I am in search of the family of this John Payne. Any suggestions??

We may be related, if you are related to the Shiver's. I am Isaac Shiver's great-great granddaughter. He was my mother's great grandfather. My cousin did an extensive search of the background and he found that John Shiver came from Amsterdam Holland to New York then to S. Carolina and I think he married Hannah there. (Isaac was the son of Abraham Shiver). I can't remember how many children Isaac had, I do know of one, my great grandmother Jenny Lee. Isaac was a confederate soldier in the civil war and I think he at one point lived in Selma, Alabama. He is buried in the Bonifay, Florida area. I was reading where someone on your website thinks the Shiver family was German, but my cousin traced it to Holland, and our branch of the Shiver family has a distinct dutch look.

I am a descendent of John & Hannah Shiver. My Great-great Grandfather was Isaac Shiver, one of the younger sons of Abraham Shiver. My great grandma was Isaac's daughter Jenny Lee. I have an old book of various writings by her, she was born around 1865. I don't know if this matters or is of interest, but my cousin has done geneological research and he traces the Shiver's back to Holland. either John or his Father came over on a boat from there & ended up in Camden, S.
