Dear Phyllis

I note with great interest your family tree into the Emmerson family. My great-grandfather was William Cassey who married into the Emmerson family. His son William was my grandfather - he died in 1917 during the Avian bird dlu epidemic, and his first son William was my father who died in 1987.

I have traced my family history back to around 1700 in Wilton, Wiltshire. If you have any information regarding the Cassey family, I would be grateful if you could share it with me.

Please feel free to contact me on my email address.

Kind regards, John Cassey

My Great Aunt Elsie Crook lived in West Malling with her husband Sandy Crook from the 1930's to the 1990's. My mother Joan Nee Cole also spent some of the war years living with her as an evacuee. Auntie Elsie now lives in Seaford, East Sussex and will be celebrating her 100th birthday in May 2008. I sent her a copy of your memories last year. She said it was the best present she could have had.

Hi,

I found your website about the Manor House at West Malling, and particularly wanted to enquire about the aerial photograph of the house and grounds, c.1929.

Could you please tell me if the image is in the family or from another source 9e.g., RAF).

I have been trying to locate an image of the Manor House, before latter works were undertaken on the house after WW.2

I'm a local aerial photographer, and often requested to locate both recent and more historical images (vertical and obliques) for clients.

Trusting that you can help,
Regards,

Peter Wood

Hello Ros, You have certainly worked hard on your site! Your present list is very similar to mine on the Sturt ancestry. I will have to ask you about the ones I am missing and fill you in with your missing ones.I can only tell you in detail about descendants of Edward (Dec.1895)but would not like anything added on the Net beyond his marriage. I will be in touch. Please note change of address. Regards, Eileen

My father's family comes from West Malling and my mother's family from East Malling. We lived in Leybourne but spent a short time living at 'The Forge' in St Leanord's Street at the end of the war after our house in Leybourne was bombed. I can remember going to Leybourne School in about 1945 or 1946 on the bus from St Leanoard's Street and on the way home meeting, at my grandfathers shop in West Malling High Street, my mother, a Mrs Funnel and a Mrs Emmerson and walking home with their children through the Manor grounds. We could only walk this way when Mrs Emmerson was with us as her husband was the gardener at the Manor.

Thank you

We live in the Five Bells, West Malling, and stumbled upon this site while searching the web for information on the property.
We bought the Five Bells (we love the place) from the Percival family 6 months ago, they had lived there for about 7 years, as I piece together the history of the place I will let you Know if I come across William Driver.

regards

Rob. btw.. excellent website

The memories section is all I've looked at and found it interesting as my father's mother's family were from Malling and I've been trying to find out more about them and the area. Their surname was Allchin. Rosa Allchin (sometimes called Rose) was born in 1881. and her sister Frances, 1880. Thanks Lynda in New Zealand

We found this website quite by chance and found it very interesting. My family ran the bakers shop in King Street from 1888 until I retired in 1988, one hundred years to the day, I being the fourth generation. The shop ceased to be a bakery in 1954. My father Leslie re-opened it as a general store and when he died in 1963 I carried on until I retired in 1988.

It is so wonderful to read all your memories,I to am tracing my family history unfortunatly i do not have anyone to ask about my ancestors, but i do remember as a child visiting west malling on a regular basis to see my Grt Grt Aunt Ella Bonus she was born in 1897 and also attended Elwood school i still have some of her book prizes from school. Her father Arthur william Bonus was, i think the hairdresser you were talking about in swan st. My Aunt Ella spent her life in West Malling and was governess to Dr Bates children, he was a surgeon not a local G.P, they lived at westeria house in the high st.

I was very interested in your mention of FOREMAN bakery as I have ancestors by this name, though probably a different family. Mine came from Hunton in about 1790.

I was also impressed with your knowledge of technology in setting up a web site. I work for Age Concern and my programme includes encouraging older people to use computers and the web. How long have you been using a computer? Did you find it difficult? What benefits have you found? sorry to ask so many questions but your reply may help in my programme.

Best wishes

Jean
