My great grandfather, Thomas Bach married to Sarah Hinckley, farmed Long Furlong House about 1840. It was previously in the Leedham family and I assume that Thomas Bach leased the farm. Perhaps you havesome more information which could help me to clarify this point.
Thank you in advance,
Eric

Interested in pictures on your site. Our ancestors are the Kinsons, or Kingstons as they were later called who came from Rosliston in the 1800's.

Hi all thanks for the comments below it is much appreciated. Many people may have tried contacting me but and I apologise that the email address was bouncing. This is my fault having not changed it when I migrated to another ISP. This has been rectified.

I hope to get to the archives towards the end of the year and have some new stuff on the site then.

Email's to your address keep bouncing, so I'm signing the guestbook in the hope that you will get back to me.

I have been researching our family trees for my daughters over the last eighteen months. My wife's maiden name is Diane Cox. Her grandfather was from Coton-in-the-elms, a neighbouring village to Rosliston. It seems that her great-great grandfather was Francis Cox b 1823 at Coton-in-the-elms, christened 7 Jun 1823 at Netherseal, Leicestershire. I am not 100% sure of his father but www.familysearch.org lists his father as Thomas and his mother as Mary. This may be Thomas Cox who was buried at Coton-on-the-elms 25 April 1879 aged 88. Some months ago I made the possible link that this chap could be the brother of Francis Cox b 1763 at Lullington d 4 Jan 1811. Then today I came across your website and was excited not only to read the wills of Francis and his wife Sarah Stratton but also to see the will dated 29 Jan 1791 of his father Thomas Cox and discover that he did indeed have two sons named Francis and Thomas. As you can see at the moment I'm having to make a couple of leaps of faith but, if you're still with me, it seems that Thomas Cox, will dated 29 Jan 1791, may be yours and Diane's common ancestor. As you can imagine, I would be very grateful if you could send me any information you have uncovered that might confirm whether Diane's great-great grandfather Francis Cox b 1823 was the nephew of Francis Cox b 1763 at Lullington.

Many thanks
Richard

My wife, judy's maiden name is Lea. Her Uncle Len used to work at a farm in Rosliston owned by a member of the Lea family - John Lea? She is we believe descended from Robert Lea who lived in Rosliston with his wife Sarah and three children at the time of the 1841 census. Also there are many Lea headstones in the churchyard. Would anyone have any knowledge of the Lea's and their involvement in Rosliston life? Thanks. Richard Green

This has the makings of a very good site. I browsed it with interest.

Have you come across any members of the QUAIL/QUEAL/etc. family ? William and Ann had a daughter Ann in Rosliston on 9th Feb 1766. William was buried there on 21st Jul 1811. Any mention of the family in any records would interest me greatly. Or on headstones ?

Best wishes,

Mike

My dad Maurice Campion came from Rosliston. My grandparents house was next to the village hall and I spent many happy holidays in the beautiful peace of the village. My ancestors seemed to drift between Rosliston and Cauldwell as their are Campions buried in both churchyards. I will watch your site with great interest!

Thank-you for taking the time to share your research on Rosliston. I must apologise if you had ancestors there as judging from the 1871 census it seems like every other household was occupied by one my relatives, the Holdens. It almost looks like they could have been the Roslistion Mafia :0)

Keep up the good work. Looking forward to seeing more, particularly the 1851 census.
