My grandmother is Eva Smith Blevins McKenzie. I am the daughter of the recently deceased John D. Blevins. I recently visited the Thornton cemetary and I was fascinated by all of the names of relatives I never knew. My father and I were estranged for many years. I'm interested in getting to know my family's history. My uncle, Randall Blevins took me to the cemetary after my father passed in January of 2008.

SueAnn,

You have put plenty of time and effort in your "Kentucky Is My Home" pages.
I have just finished visiting your site. Before I realized it , I had spent nearly an hour on it. Thank you for a job well done. cumminsfrank@hotmail.com

I am a descendent of the Spoonamores 2 generations removed now. My gggrandfather/3grandfather was Uriah Spoonamore. 2 generations later my grandmother Dessie Mae Spoonamore married one John L. Cummins hence I became a Cummins born in 1949 (placing me in your age bracket.

Your pages contain many Spoonamore entries. The Cummins info is secondary, but however if you include the enties on your pages, corrections/additions should be made. If you are acceptable to my information, I will provide it to help you update. You may respond to this email if you like. I have your email address from your pages. I have a site also that requires a password. I will check my info and make sure all entries are current. If you desire I will give you an invitation or the password to get into it.

Once again, thank you for the pages. I enjoyed viewing them. I have a 2nd cousin that lives in Virginia. He is a Spoonamore and has quite extensively researched over in Eurpe the Spoonheimers. They go back into Austria also I believe. I will mention your pages to him. Keep smiling on! Frank Cummins

I wanted to let you know you stopped :"JUST SHORT" one and two generations of connecting to two of Kentucky's many famous musicians. In your LEDFORD line you stop on Dow White LEDFORD and his wife, Stella TACKETT. They had TEN children. One of the girls was Lily May LEDFORD, leader of the COON CREEK GIRLS. You can find tons of data on them on line, but in a short version they were dirt poor like their neighbors. Dow's family mostly grew up in the Nada, POWELL Co., KY area, next door to what is now Natural Bridge State park. Lily and her sisters went to WLS BARN DANCE in Chicago. There they met KY native and promoter, John LAIR. John had a vision of creating a "GRAND OLE OPRY" type place in KY. After a brief stop at a station in Cincinnati they took root at RENFRO VALLEY. Among many milestones in her long carrer, she (and the Coon Creek Girls) played for the PRESIDENT of the United STATES and then KING GEORGE of England and their wives. Now Lily May married a Glenn PENNINGTON and they had a son James "JP" PENNINGTON who went on to form the singing group EXILE. EXILE had one number one Rock hit in 1978, KISS YOU ALL OVER that went on to become the highest rated non disco song of the year. After some musical struggles, they went country and had a long string of #1 hits. Some of JP's music was recorded by Alabama and Loretta LYNN's sister. JP is still playing music with his current version of EXILE. JP is VERY proud of his roots and his family. My son and I spoke with him several years ago in Michigan after a performance. My son and my brother also visited with him briefly about two weeks ago in Burnside, Pulaski Co., KY. Also Lily May's sister, Charlotta "Rosey" Ledford (also at one time a Coon Creek Girl), married Clarence B. "C.B." "Cotton" Foley, a brother to the countery music legand "RED" FOLEY.
OUTSTANDING WORK...God Bless for sharing.

Found you while looking for Reuben BROCK - a couple of my R1b1 ASHLEY lines in our ASHLEY DNA Project have shown up matching BROCK DNA. As for me, an I1b ASHLEY, and a genetic ASHLEY cousin (but we can't find our common ancestor) - our lines left SC/NC & moved to Texas, & both lines made a BROCK marriage (unrelated BROCKS!). One of those BROCKS was my great grandmother. My other two I1b ASHLEY genetic lines left NC for KY (but they have no BROCK links)
You have a great site - I have KY families too: EUBANK; HARLAN; BRADLEY; RICHEY; WHEAT; BURRIS; SKAGGS; ROBERTSON; CRISEL, just to name a few.

Also my Baker line goes back to the JONES line in Grayson Co., VA and some of the early JONES marriages into the HOBBS lines were connected to that extended family. My son and I are both researchers and have worked with many others, including Daniel Hobbs CABLE of AZ. His dad was a Prof. at Purdue and did early research. Also have close ties to Absolom HOBBS Jr. line from Tipton Co., IN. And we have atteded the long running HOBBS reunion in HOBBS, IN. I will be looking more into your site soon. GOD BLESS you all.

We must be Vaughn cousins. James M. Vaughn was born in Estill County Ky in May 1, 1814 and married Susan Reed in 1838 in Estill Co. Ky. They moved to Barbourville, Knox County, Kentucky.

I am connected to the Vaughn's on both my father's ancestor line and my mother's. Samuel Vaughn was one of my grandfather's. It is speculated they came from Virginia and possibly the Caroline County VA, Fredericksburg.

I would like to share genealogy and family history with you.

Hi,
Was looking up some of the family and was so surprised to see how far back you have went with the Ball family. My grandmother is Carletta (Ball) Houston. It's so neat. How are you related? Your name don't sound familar. But of cousre the family doesn't get together very often. There is only one one of Grandma's sisters alive. Aunt Jessie.I do have some old photos of the family when they were teenagers if you would like copies. send me you address and i will mail them. Have you got any info of the Houston's. Grandpa Denver Houston, was born in Harlan co. but i guess the court house burnt and there are no records left. Well i'm excited to hear from you. I will also send you the names and births from our side.

Thanks for all your hard work !!!!

she had married unk Hill possible a Preacher. I did find a Sarah Hill in
Hignite Creek(Bell Co)?with a son named Thomas, who was her son with Hill.
What really caught my eye was the name James, and Alice Harrison in the same area. Alice did marry a James Harrison, and in the same area was her son's

I am John S. (Josh) Powell Jr., son of John S. Powell and Agnes Carroll of Louisville, KY.
I am related to you through Tyler Wilson Carroll, whose Daughter Hatta Carroll was impregnated by Jake Vanmeter and gave birth to Garland Carroll who is my Grandfather.
I have some information about the Carroll's of Kentucky and my line going back to the 1700s, but I have nothing about the Vanmeters and since Jake was my Great Grandfather it would help if I could find that line.
Thanks,
Josh

Like it. You have done good work. I have been inti MIDI
for many years (since the MPU401) but never had the equipment
to do good multitrack stuff. Did you create the MIDI that plays on your home page? I am a retired computer hardware/software design engineer (retired 1992 after 36 years with Lockheed) and I now have a Yamaha DGX505 88 key electronic piano and am learning to play and trying to create some decent sounding MIDIs using it. So, I am looking

Kygal- I too am a Kentucky native transplanted to Florida! I was born in Louisville but my parents lived in E-town. My mother was divorced and remarried a man in army so I left the area while quite young. My mother and birth father still have family in the area as well as my son and his family who now live in Etown.

My family line begins with Virginia Morrison Meredith (Charles William Meredith, Woodford Meredith, Joseph Abraham Meredith).

Please write and perhaps we can share old and new stories.

A new friend. Ann McDaniel

You deserve the awards you received. I will return to see more that I didn't have the time to look at. I didn't get into the photos and I want to. I also have American Indian Grandparents that I would love to put on your dedication page. I have some pictures too. Again, thanks for allowing me to view your lovely site and God Bless. Bren

Hi Susan,
Awhile ago you sent me the entire "Sls" death index for Kentucky while I was searching for my gr grandfather. I did go on to Frankfort and searched there, as well. I haven't found it yet, but I do thank you for send me so much information. I keep hoping it will show up some day. That was William Slaven born 1855 and I've been searching for a correct death date. While in Frankfort I was able to buy a death certificate for his last wife, Nancy Ann and that is of some value to me.

Thanks for all you do,
Merry Christmas,
Dee

This is a wonderful site, I have very much enjoyed my visit here. I admire all your hard work and dedication, I also envy it. I have been working on Asher family but get very confused trying to keep all the information straight. It seems most everyone in southeastern Kentucky came from Dillion Asher and/or Aaron Brock.

Aaron Brock Susannah Carolina Davis 5th great grandfather
Jesse Brock Rebecca Howard
Susannah Brock William Simpson Blanton
Sarah Blanton Hiram Calvin Fee
Lavinia Fee Jesse Brice
Delia Brice William Matt Asher
Velva Asher James Johnson
Sheila Johnson John Boyd

William Asher Margaret Blevins 4th great grandfather
Dillion Asher Sarah Davis
Richard Wilkerson Asher Lucinda Bingham
Richard Wilkerson Asher Sarah Slusher
William Matt Asher Delia Brice
Velva Asher James Johnson
Sheila Johnson John Boyd

Rebecca Howard
Samuel Howard
Francis Dryden 6th great grandmother

It's all so confusing.
When I get a site, if I do, and can get it going I will send you a link. I know it will not be as good as yours, but I will do my best.

later, Cuz
Sheila

Hello,
My mother is from Whitley County. She was raised in the small hamlets of Wolf Creek and Mountain Ash. Her father was also a coal miner.
Our Kentucky roots go WAY back. My mother's mom was a Cox. Her people were Quakers from England and settled in the Wolf Creek area back in the late 1700's. My mother's father was a Sears on his Dad's side and a Shelton on his Mother's side. The Sears' have been in the Whitley/Knox County area since the Revolutionary War. His Shelton's settled in the same area before the Civil War. My Great Grandpa Joseph Shelton is buried at Camp Nelson, Kentucky. He died during the Civil War on Dec. 31. 1863.
I also live in Florida and have lived here for over 46 years but my home is in Kentucky. There something about that place that calls to me, some say that's crazy, not me!
My people were born there and they are buried there.
I love Old Kentucky!
Pati Sears-Burnett
