Comments:
Okay, this is where I am and I am a little stuck:

My maternal grandomther (6 generations back) was purchased by John Perry, son of Jeremiah Perry and grandson of Phillip Perry, III in what was Granville County (now known as Franklin County, NC). The years' span is actually 1780 to 1829. According to the late Dr. Woodtor's book (Anthopology professor at DePaul University and also my cousin), I would need to get a copy of John Perry's 1829 Deed in Franklin County's courthouse. It was probated. I have seen the html version and it does not give an ideas as to which port ( James Towne, Charleston, Georgetown, Wilmington)he would have used. The deed should tell me what communities Phillip Perry's children lived in Franklin County. My dream to is to identify the ship my ancestor was on. Is there anyway I could be directed to the port? Thanks for any help you all can provide. This is the last piece of my puzzle. My DNA results yield that my maternal ancestor (Susan) was from what is now northern Kenya.

Never willing to give up!

Comments:
I am not a member of the Tucker family. We, my wife and I are involved in a project researching Moses L. Tucker, a cartoonist and engraver for the Indianapolis Freeman newspaper from around 1889 through around 1896. I have found his family - father, Jacob, mother, Ann and 6 siblings in the 1880 census for Atlanta, GA. The family also appears in the 1870 census.

We would like to find more information regarding Moses' family origins, how he may have been schooled, and what, specifically brought him from Atlanta to Indianapolis.

We would also be interested in finding any descendents of Moses' siblings. As far as we can ascertain, Moses did not marry or father any children.

The question to pose here, I presume, is if someone in your organization can suggest how we might best proceed?

The Breman Jewish Heritage Museum is mounting an exhibit about the Leo Frank case in 2008. His trial involved most parts of Atlanta’s community in 1914 - the Jews, the African Americans, the Confederate veterans, Yankees, and the agricultural workers who had moved to the city.

I am interested in having a shared genealogy meeting where we could talk about tracing the family histories of the different participants of the trial. The exhibit will include information about social conditions at the time including the Atlanta Race Riots of 1906, so if you would prefer to trace the families of those victims, it would be very relevant. I have already begun tracing Leo Frank’s family tree and it is fascinating.

Are you interested in tracing some of the other participants’ family histories?

I would like to set as a ground rule that we do not talk about the trial it will certainly be talked about enough at other events. Instead I would like to focus on genealogical research, what resources each of us uses to get past brick walls, tips and tricks that might help each other.

Please let me know if you or anyone else in your group is interested in this project.

My earliest known ancestor Jasper and Charlota Hicks listed on the 1880 US Fed'l Census Record
Comments:
Jasper and Charlota Hicks DOB 1840/41 is listed on the 1880 US Federal Census Record. I was wondering why I can't find them on previous census records 1840-1870. Also, I was thinking about becoming a member but I was wondering if it was unusual to have members living in another state. I live in New York.

My earliest known ancestor Great grandfather, Jupiter Carrington
Comments:
I am researching my families history from slavery to freedom. Information we have is that our ancestors were brought to Texas from Virginia by way of Georgia. When Texas opened up to settlers, certain Carrington slaveholders left Georgia by wagon train to gain land in Texas. We have found the names of at least two slaveholders who brought slaves to Texas : E.J. Carrington and E.C. Carrington. I heard that they were noteworthy persons. They may have stayed in Georgia during the early 18th century, and may have settled in Texas before 1870. Information on my great grand father indicates that he was from Virginia. My research reveals that there were my Carrington slaveholders and slaves in Halifax, VA and surrounding counties. My current goal is to: (1) identify and trace the slaveholders history from Virginia, thru Georgia to Texas, (2) Find lists of slaves of the Carrington slaveholders and attempt to identify Jupiter and his slaveholder, (3) Trace Jupiter's and his particular slaveholder's history while in Georgia.
