I'm looking for info on my greatgrandfather's family, who reportedly came from Bosiljevo. His name was Franjo Malic, and he was born around 1875. He had a brother named Robert and a sister named Julia that we know of. Their parents' names were Ivan and Ana (Krajac). Franjo came through Ellis Island in 1893 and Robert entered the US through Philly in 1890 or so. Would love to hear from any Malics!

I'm looking for info regarding my grandparents who came to Western PA around 1906. Their names: Johann (John) Spahic and Ana Erdeljac. Ana died around 1919 in Blacklick, PA, hence not much info. They were from the Bosiljevo region and traveled back and forth, as I found on Ellis Island website. I'm looking for anyone who may be related or have any information. I believe they were married at St NIck's in Pittsburgh but it is difficult to retrieve records due to spelling differences. I enjoy the site and will continue to visit it.

I found this site while searching for information on the birthplace of my maternal grandfather, Marko Radonovic. Immigration records identify many, many Radonovic's (with various spellings) from areas of Bovic, Cermusnica, Bosiljevo, Vrgn Most, etc. My grandfather was Serbian and apparantly married a woman named Martha on/about 1897. The immigration record I trust the most shows he immigrated in 1899 and went from Baltimore, MD, to Steelton, PA.
I would appreciate it very much if anyone can lead me to sources where I might find more information about his young years in Croatia.
Hvala.

Hello. My grandfather is Zvonimir Sprajcar from Kraljevo Selo. He came to America in around 1913. He was only 5. He died before I was born and never really told my dad about Croatia. I would love to learn more about my homeland and my family. If anyone would like to share any information or stories I would love to receive an e-mail from you.
Hvala,

To Whom It May Concern
This is for the person who is directing his message towards me on this site.
First I would like to state that I am not a political person. I do agree that it's nice that the stinkin' Commies are gone. I would also like to state that Matija Bukovac was my great-grandfather which I have never met in person.
Matija Bukovac is dead now. And he can't really defend himself anymore. And yes, he was a leader of the Communist Party!
Whoever you are, I didn't research anything on wikipedia. One does his own research and then posts it on wikipedia!
I got most of my knowledge about Matija Bukovac from family members and old folks in Bosiljevo. I was at the 75th Anniversary of the Bosiljevo Fire Brigade in 2004. Where I met a lot of his friends.
What strikes me funny is, if Matija was such a bad Communist as you say, why don't we have 4 houses and a Weekend house on the coast? All the other Commies stole grabbed as much as they could?
Furthermore I would like to state that I speak 3 languages and I have lived on 4 continents. So, calling me stupid is kind of an insult. Especially if you don't sign with your real name?
Obviously we have never met. People actually go out of my way. Nobody really wants any beef with me.....
And threatening me with your older brother and a german shepherd doesn't really count....it makes you look like a coward.
Anyhow, if I plan to visit Bosiljevo in the near future, I will post it here and we can meet and have a drink in the local pub....actually I am looking forward to it.
Yours truthfully
Robert Bukovac

I used to live in Korenic Brdo.
My parents are Anka and Slavo Popovacki (Kucan). My mother's maiden name is Anka Staresinic.
We used to live with my grandparents in Korenic Brdo #2. Petar and Franca Staresinic.
We came to Canada in 1970 when I was nine.
My father has 4 brothers and 1 sister - she lives in Karlovac. The brothers are here in Hamilton. They are John (Ivan), (who passed away 2 years ago) Steve, Joe, Nick and sister Marica. My mother has no brothers or sisters.
My name is Ane (Ann) and my brother's name is Ive (John) (Popovacki).
I would like to keep in touch and hear from anyone from the Bosiljevo area, as my parents & relatives know a lot of people from there, but have moved all over the world.
It is wonderful to find people who you grew up with - I know that life has taken us to different parts of the world, but it is nice to connect to someone from the old country.
This Internet is great for some things - and this website is a great idea!
Sve najbolje!

Yo folks,
back again. Did a little work on the wikipedia site. Got a lot of info on my great grandfather. I was under the impression he was arrested and tortured by the German Gestapo in WWII.
But he was picked up by the Ustaha. So, I will post it on the Bosiljevo wikipedia site, as soon as I finish my research. Both in English and German. Matija Bukovac was the first president of the Bosiljevo fire brigade.
Hope y'all have a Happy New Year 2008

I have just seen the website and was in Ahh as to history of "my ancestry homeland". Wow! In Portland, Oregon I have such a desire for any information and was delighted and enchanted with this page. My paternal grandmother's name is EVA SUTEJ, b. 26. Apr. 1887 in Vinica in Krajina. Many Sutejs with abt the same births, could prove to be related. She is on the list for Bosiljevo and Parish Prilisce. I am just grateful for seeing many people with this name; that up until a couple of days ago, seemed to be completely hopeless. I need to find out her mother and father's names. Thank you Father Ljubic for your entry. You seem to be a kindred spirit. I feel exactly like you did in the beginning. Eva never spoke of her parents or siblings. She only spoke her language and hardly to her children. My dad never heard one story about his grandparents!!!! To this day he thinks she was the only child. Inside, I know she wasn't. Also, I have this same "compelling" call to find my grandparents. Thank you everyone who sees this and may know something. I would be grateful for any information. Debbee

Hi there! I spent a week in Orisje last summer. My folks fixed the roof on the old house. Man, was I glad I wasn't there at the time. My poor brother had to carry 2500 rooftiles up 20 stairs! And they were 4 pounds each!!! Bosiljevo is dead! The pubs are full! Stari Grad is still there, although it's falling apart! I guess that is our biggest disgrace!
Why can't anyone fix it? Everyone's running when they have a party or need a new roof for the church, but no one's there to fix this thing. Why? I guess we should all be ashamed! But it's still nice to go there!! And it's cool to go to Bosiljevo once in a while, just to see familiar faces! I couldn't tell who was who anyway. One forgets the name to a face!
Bye for now... Steve

Yo, spent 3 months in Bosiljevo last summer. Caught up with some a...holes who were rude to me as a kid (young Pupic and Pizek from the old store)! Wanted to beat them up, but they were just Commie-pussies! That was fun. The village is dying. All the young folks are gone and the old people are slowly disappearing. Oh, you can see Stari Grad again. They didn't chop the trees, but the trees are dying, too. Well, at least you can make the castle out! The autobahn is great! 10 minutes to Karlovac and 40 to Rijeka! It only took those Commies 30 years to build the damn thing! And the Lesce pool has a toilet now! That took 30 years, too!!!!
