What do you like most about the site? genealogy information & historical stories
What do you like least about the site? need more genealogy info & dislike the ad for background checks
Comments:
The site has really improved since the late 1990's.

For us genealogy researchers the more records that are put on line the better. I have Kinch and Borden relatives in Sullivan County and might even have some Justin, Finkle and Peters surnames in Sullivan County. However, I'm out of state and my only way to find the necessary records is via websites like yours. I was born in Otsego, NY. Keep up the good work.
BTW, do you have volunteers that do lookups? Where would you suggest to find persons to correspond with via email regarding Sullivan County or message boards?

Interested in Arthur Conklin, Manning Conklin, George Conklin who moved into Rockland, Sullivan County from the Haverstraw area of Rockland County c. 1840, possibly brothers. Arthur moved to Denning, Ulster County c. 1870, had tray mill on Neversink River. Arthur's wife Hannah was a Johnson, Daughter of Thomas Johnson of Johnsontown (was part of Haverstraw).

Hi all. Wish I'd found this site when Dad was still alive, could have posted on line a bunch of useful info. Unfortunately, Dad is still listed as Town of Liberty Historian. My Dad, Delbert Van Etten, died in 2004. All of his records were turned over to the town. I'm not sure who's the current historian. I'm out in Ohio now. I know that there was an active genealogy group out in Liberty, but the people I knew in it have all passed away. Contact the Sullivan County museum in Hurleyville and see if they have anyone taking over for Charlotte. She was a friend of Dad's who did a lot of research. Unfortunately, she has also passed. I know that they had collected a lot of info on cemeteries and from newspapers and had it all indexed. There's a lot of info out there, sometimes it's just finding the right person. GOOD LUCK!!!

I recently learned that my great grandparents were from Sullivan County. They were Abraham Purcell b abt 1849, & Anna [Annie] Davis b abt 1858, with children Sarah b 1884, Goldie b 1886, Edith b 1889, Chester b 1892, and Ethel, my grandmother, b 1893. They lived in Wawarsing in 1900 but lived in Mamakating at some time on a farm and came there from Kerhonkson. Any information would be greatly appreciated. I live in Louisiana and am not familiar with searching in the area.

Thanks,
Grace Brink Foster

Attempted to email this data but was unsuccessful:

Pages from 'Familien-Register' now in the possession of Arthur Dennis Hawkridge are written in German script, the paper is aged and water stained, thus is difficult to read. Whoever made the entries shows August Elias and family as Wehner Rosedeutscher. My mother says that 'Rosedeutscher' is the term used to identify German-Jews.

Listed in 1880 Census Callicoon, Sullivan as August WHEINNER
Based on Births family was in Sullivan Co from 1880 census until 1889+?
