A friend from high school sent me this site and I was so thrilled to see a copy of our Baccalaureate Services and our commencement. It just brought back so many memories of one of the happiest moments in my life. There has been many times that I wished I would have saved the program from our 1960 graduating class. I was so happy to be able to print the information and have it framed now. Thank you so much.

I live out side Seymour and thought youd like to know of Civil War graves on private property not listed on your site. These two men Walter and Spencer Marling left home both bare footed in Sept 1861 and enlisted at Seymour, Both were killed at Perryville,Ky the same year. They were buried in family cemetery that had changed hands several years later. These graves are on Highway 31 South west side of road about half mile south from Swifty Farms and the horse farm on the east side. The sight of the house is the first white structure in Vernon town ship in 1819, If you need more info or more specific directions let me know. The graves stones have since fallen and covered with brush. I thought you might like to know this.

I am looking for info on my grandparents famlies
William Findley and Elizabeth Doan Findley. I've done pretty well with the Findley's but can find very little on the Doans. Her father was Frank Doan, could have been Francis and her mother was Hettie Dora Brown Doan. He died in the 1920's. I thought the burial place was Riverside Cem. and that he was born 1858, but no luck.

I am just beginning the process of locating my mother's family. She was one of 9 children born and when her mother died, when she was quite young, all of her siblings were split up. She has has no contact with them since that separation. I do know her mother, father, and siblings names, some dob and other sketchy info. We know they were born in Jackson Co., Seymour, Brownstown area. Her father's name was Arthur H. Powers and her mother was Anna R. Whitson. Anything we can find would be wonderful.

My maiden name is Cummings. My father was Irvin H. Cummings, son of Gilbert R. and Zella M. Waskom. My father was born in Jackson Co. My mother, Nellie R. Soverns, is the daughter of Marcellus Edmund Soverns and Bertha Allilion Beaty. My mother was born at Tipton Station in Tipton, IN. The family moved to Jackson Co. when she was about 10 months of age. They were a family of 12 children, with all but the two youngest being born in Tipton. Orpha Marie Soverns Woods and Angie Evanell Soverns Johnson, are the two youngest children. Of the 12, only my mother Nellie R. Cummings of Brownstown, and Evanell Johnson of Medora, are still living. My father came from a family of 8 children, all born in Jackson Co. In 1940-41, my family moved to Indpls., so my father could find work there. He followed his father Gilbert Ralph Cummings and Zella May Waskom to Indy a few years after they moved there. My mother and dad moved back to Jackson Co., the place they loved most, when my dad retired. He passed away in Jackson Co., Sept. 17, 1985, in a tractor accident. I am an amateur genealogist and having been looking for information on the Cummings, Soverns, Edwards and Waskom families. I plan to send a check and become a member of the Society. Sincerely, Virginia R. (Cummings) Richardson
