Great site, thank-you.
I was born in Washington (1949) and lived in Tylerdale on the corner of Tyler and Donnan Aves., but moved to Virginia at age 4. Spent a lot of time visiting, especially during summer vacations. Have a spot in my heart for Little Washington. Material on web-site brings back a lot of memories.
My (step) grandfather owned H.C. Lindley Insulation and I helped him insulate many homes on summer vacations.
My dad, who worked for Jessop steel before injuring his back, was big into model trains and was involved with a club that had a train layout set up in the old Wash H.S. The old school was torn down and is now the site of the Central Fire Station. He also set up train displays in the theatre lobbies at Christmas time.
My paternal grandfather was a B & O conductor, who died at a very young age. I guess that precipitated my dad getting into model railroading.
Enough rambling.
Thanks again

My great-grandparents settled in McDonald at the end of the 19th century. Their names were Pierre Joseph ( Peter) Descutner and Catherine Zandenborg Descutner. Their son, Efren, was my grandfather. He and his brothers had a tea business in McDonald at the beginning of the 20th Century. My grandmother, Valerie Vanaerschott, immigrated from Belgium in the early 1900's. She married Efren and they had 9 children. They moved to Akron, Ohio in about 1924. I love finding any info I can about their time in Mcdonald. I know that Efren helped to build the "French church" and as an active part of the community.

Are you the one that lived near or on "goat hill"? I went to Hayes Ave. Grade School for 4th, 5th and 6th grade and then went to Trinity in 7th to 10th grades. We then moved to Claysville and I finished at McGuffey.
Hope to hear from you!

I have never been there, but my brick wall was supposedly born there. Leah Ingle. Her parents died when she was young. She was living with John Mawl in Ohio in 1850 and other children with surname of INGLE were living near by with other families: Samuel Dowans, and John Shidler.

The old "S" bridge, covered bridges, the Mon River, exploring the "back roads" for ruins of old log cabins&q Comments:
Washington County has many "natural" beauties to explore. I used to enjoy just driving around the back roads enjoying the rustic scenery, the rolling hills and farmlands. Sometimes I'd come across an old cemetery (off the beaten path)with the ruins of an old log cabin nearby. The headstones were nothing but slabs of rock, roughly chilseled and barely readable. I would often wonder who these people were, how they had died, what kind of lives they had lived. Another oft visited spot was Dutch Fork where one could view the Miller family cemetery who had been killed by the Indians. Most of my "favorite" spots were not tourists attractions, but places I found by myelf...in search of history.

Hiya! Well, I finally did it! Here is my "Little Washington"-Washington PA website where I can share thousands of newspaper items. Victoria Hospodar Valentine has agreed to allow me to place her McDonald area newspapers on this site also. My second website is at http://freepages.family.rootsweb.com/~florian/ and is "Life in Washington Co. PA" where I hope we can share stories and memories about the many families who've lived in the county. If you'd like to submit to either website, drop me a note!
I hope you'll enjoy looking through my websites. I'm still fixing some links but things should be close to 100% by the end of December. Sign the Guestbook and let me hear what else you'd like to see!
