My father was Wesley W. Nightingale, whose father was
Peter Nightingale, whose father was Peter Nachtigal, whose
father was Jacob Nachtigal. Jacob and Peter emigrated to
this country in 1878 and came by a ship that was a combination
of paddlewheel and sail powered. It sank on the return voyage
to Bremen, Germany. Peter Nachtigal was married to Argata
Warkentine in York County, (Henderson) Nebraska in that same
year. They were married by Peter Wall, court clerk. I am interested in tracing out what became of Peter Nachtigal's
children. My Grandfather Peter Nightingale died in 1948.
His sister Elizabeth died in 1951. My father Wesley died
in 2006. His cousin Ada died in 2008. Elizabeth and Pete's
sister Kate died in Canada. Grandpa Pete's brothers are
who I am trying to search for. Cornelius died in eastern
Washington as a wheat farmer. The other brothers we don't
know. It was rumored that one died of influenza in WW I.
Another brother went to Florida and disappeared, never to
be heard from again. I ran into a Ben Nachtigal in Reedly
California when I was driving for Mayflower. I moved a
Rev. Toews to Reedly from the Sacramento area and found out
he was related to us. Most of the people who settled in Henderson, NE moved to the Reedley-Fresno CA area sometime
around the dust bowl occurance.

A very impressive website. I admire your hard work.

I am starting to research the Klassen side of my family tree. My grandmother, Elisabeth Klassen (b. 1910 Gnadenheim) married my grandfather Peter Reimer (b.December 24, 1907) in Rueckenau where my father was born. Her father was Jakob Dietrich Klassen (b. Dec. 20, 1870, Friedensdorf but died 1932-3? in Rueckenau), and her grandfather was Dietrich Jakob Klassen (1835-1903), and great-grandfather was Jakob Johann Klassen (b. 1785, Moesland) and ggg was Johann Klassen (1758-1812?, Moesland).

So many parallels to your story, but I couldn't quite find a link between our families. Can you find one?

Hey Lori (and anyone else who reads this),
I'm heading out to Stuttgart, Germany this Christmas (2002) to visit my girlfriend, and we're planning a little 4 hour drive to Lichtenstein to investigate the Eidsen folklore. I need as much info beforehand as I can get, so I was wondering if you could give me some advice, first of all, as to what kind of things I need to know before I hit the Lichtensteinian librairies and city halls and archives. I'll need to know my ancestry as far back as it can go, as well as the different places of birth/wedding/immigration/death of each generation. Where do I start with finding this info? Another thing I will need advice on is what to do once I get there. Where do I start, what do I ask for? I know that most countries in Europe have really efficient and exhaustive processes of determining ancestral lines of nobility, I'm wondering if that is the case in Lichtenstein. Any advice would be much appreciated!

searching for gold,

Kenton
- Larry and Sandi Eidse's youngest son, just in case:)

PS - if there is anything you would like me to check out while I'm there, let me know!

I found your website when I typed "Church of God in Christ Mennonite" into the Google search engine. I think Cornelius Eidse (1840-1914) was my grandfather!!! My mother was the youngest child of the last marriages of Cornelius Eidse and Susanna (Koehn) Boese. I knew very little about her father because he died (of blood poisoning, I believe) when Mom was still a child.

My grandparents were married August 7, 1898, in McPherson County, Kansas. In 1893 my grandmother had come to the United States as a widow with three young sons. She and Cornelius Eidse had two daughters -- my mother, Esther, and my aunt, Susie -- both now deceased. I understand they had a brother, Abraham, who died in childhood.

He later made his way to Nebraska and lived out his life here. The had thirteen children there was two sets of twins. Anyway I think that your site is really great. Keep up the good work.

Where do you think we came from? i wish all my ancestors' lives had been recorded in a book or something, i always try to imagine what kind of adventures they went on and stuff but i wish there was somebody who had actual stories. do you know of any journals or writings from them? I am lookiing for information on Framz (july 10 1856- April 19, 1938) and Margaret ( dec 23 1864- Mar 9 1901 ? ) Reimer. We believe they came to Canada in Febuary of 1901, as she passed away in childbirth a month after arriving in Manitoba. We are not sure who they stayed with but they went to Rosendahl, Manitoba and he died on his son's Jake Reimer farm in Schazenfeld, Manitoba. He never bought any land or homesteaded, so any help you could give would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Looking for the family of Mary married to Isaac. Born in Baden 1/14/1842. Immigrated to Erie IL in 1864 with parents as one of the 12 children. Went to NE up marriage. Returned shortly due to husband's injury. Mary never talked of her brothers and sisters. Trying to trace.

Hi,
I would like to give you a word of appreciation for your mother and father. In 1974, I came to Morris with my husband for him to attend WBC. Your parents were so nice to us and welcomed us into their church.
Over the years I have maintained contact with my neighbors the Seimens family. I only read part of your site and now will return to it. May God bless you. Praise the Lord!
Jan
