Name: Dennis <dlmiller@cableone.net> Date: 2007-12-11 What surnames are you researching in Schuyler County? Hartman, White, Coran Has our website helped you with your research? Yes, but I'm waiting to hear back for more information about the Will entry on page 14 for the Hartman children Do you have a genealogy success story to share? Yes Comments:
The young John Hartman mentioned on page 14 of the Schuyler County Will section of this website is my great grandfather. He married Elizabeth Hudnall on July 7, 1876 in Merrick County, Nebraska. One of their children, Elizabeth Hartman (1891 - 1966) married William Jasper Miller (1860 - 1937) on September 10, 1910 in York County, Nebraska. William Jasper Miller's father was John Parker Miller, b. 4/1/1827 in Perry County, Ohio.
Several months ago, on the internet I bumped into my third cousin who was doing the same Miller research. Together we uncovered two 19th century documents written by our Miller ancestors about their genealogy. I now know that John Parker Miller, my great grandfather's father was Joseph S. Parker who married Margaret Parkinson on April 7, 1825 in Perry County, Ohio. Joseph's parents were John and Margaret Bretz Miller. Margaret Bretz's parents were John and Christine Bretz. I now know my blood lines come from Jolly Ol' England of the 16th century and - perhaps - the not so Jolly Duchy of Oldenburg in the late 17th century.
I have discovered that the help of total strangers, tenacity, luck and whole lot of patience helps when trying to find ancestors who don't want to be found.
I now can trace my Miller blood line from Oldenburg, Germany, Pennsylvania (Washigton County), Ohio (Perry and Wyandot Counties), Illinois (Effingham and Clay Counties), Nebraska and finally North Dakota where it really is cold. :-)
John Hartman's wife, Elizabeth Hudnall, has been traced by professional genealogists back to 16th century England. Unfortunately, John Hartman's father, John Hartman (b. 1819 - 1857?) was born in Germany and is a brick wall that I may not be able to chip at. My recent discovery of new material on this website about the Hartman children may uncover more information about their parents, John and Ann (Cassy) White Hartman about what happened to them @ 1857 (death or ?). Several years ago, I was able to trace a couple of their children to the 1920's census. I knew something happened to John and Ann Hartman between the 1850 and 1860 census and now - with the help of this website - I may learn what happened to them.
Thanks for reading all of this. As you can tell, I'm very interested in genealogy.
Dennis

You have a wonderful web site for Schuyler County. I search for books for our genealogy society to buy and I don't find anyone on the Schuyler Co. Historical Jail Museum that I can contact via the net. I need to know how their paperback books are bound, excluding the hardcover ones mentioned on their publication list. Are they spiral, comb or stapled bound?
Hope you can help me with this request.
