I have the Evans relatives buried in the Monument cemetery which includes Louis C, Willie Mae and Louis S and James (Jimmy) Evans. My mom Peggy Evans died recently and we will burying her there this December.
There is another website that I am looking for that has a list of all those buried in the Monument Cemetery.

Please correct the year of death for Gibbs J Winslow in Prairie Haven Cemetery, Hobbs, NM. Currently it reads "1932" and it really should be "1982". Confusion arises from reading the year from the photo of the tombstone. Thanks for making the correction. :=)

According to the Hobbs News Sun plots at Evergalde Cemetery are no longer sold. If I understand correctly, this is because there were so many unmarked graves. In recent months Booker T. Washington elementary school had fund raisers and used the money to buy grave markers for these unmarked graves. I recently went to Everglades Cemetery and took pictures of most of these newly marked graves. Anyone who loves Lea County history should go and see what a beautiful difference the new grave markers made. Your site is amazing! You and your historians are amazing! Sites like yours make the world a better place!

Ernest,
I have been researching my Turley family and possibly have a connection to your Edward and Alcy Long family. This is what I know so far. On 19 Feb 1866 Archiblad Turley married Elizabeth Mathews in Hunt County, Texas. She was born 14 Dec 1832 in Tennessee and died 9 May 1904 in Alexander, Erath, Texas. She was Archibald's second wife. This couple had one daughter, Rachel Turley who was born 12 Jul 1868 in Hunt Co., TX, she married an Albert W Rusk. The Texas death certificates are on line now at www.pilot.familysearch.org. I have been going nuts using those records and the wealth of information gleaned from them. Case in point - When I found the death certificate for Rachel Turley Rusk (d 1954) she gives her mothers name as Elizabeth Long. I began to look around for a Long family living in Hunt County in 1860 and there I found Alcy Long with her daughter Elizabeth and other children.
I am thinking that Elizabeth may have been married for a short time to someone named Mathews. Can you shed any light on this subject?

I got a lot of copies of your phots on my family in Prairie Haven in Hobbs. I live in Hobbs, NM and was thrilled to find this site. My family is buried at Memory Gardens in Hobbs so I will be checking back often to see if you are working on that cemetery yet. Thanks for all your time, effort, and work into making this site available. Most of my research is done in Texas as we have only been in Hobbs since 1948.
The names that I research are Cope(NC & TN), Gordon(TX, GA & NC), Lee(TX & GA), Raiza(TX, MI, & PA), Elder (TN), Nutt (NC, TN, MO,& TX), Landers(TN, MO, & TX), Wright(NC, MO, & TX), Trammell(GA), Riza (TX).

Good start on a great site. Lots of work - right?
Some of my folks are in the Boone Cemetery and Memory Gardens. I have a few pictures of Memory Gardens if they would do you any good.
I know it is hard to keep all of the pages in sync.
The INDEX page has the Boone cemetery in Hobbs - The HOME page doesn't.
In Lovington, Roberts.jpg and Roberts_Velma_and_Lee.jpg are the same stone.
Keep up the good work - Jim

Your website is excellent. Animation is wonderful! How/where did you get the clock-calendar which follows the cursor? My wife is amazed.
Thanks for sharing your research and efforts.

There are some Longs in Big Spring, Texas.
I have a friend that is married to a Long.
There are two cemeteries in Big Spring. One is about 3 miles south of town and the other is North of town on highway 350 about 1/4 mile from I-20.

Nice site Erny. I also do some cemetery photography here in southeastern Michigan. However this year with gas prices rising faster than buzards riding a thermo.. well just can't get out as often or as far as even a year ago. Maybe it's age creeping up on me.
I really like the name, Sleeping Ancestors.
Do any of your friends think you're a little crazy? Many of mine think of me because of my views and feelings about cemeteries... Homes of our ancestors.. where their spirits now live. Headstones..??.. their "windows" to Our world !
Ah well, I can blame it on getting older.
A fine job, Erny, keep up the good work.
Rick

Great work on your website. Thanks for being so "giving". FYI there are 2 burial sites on range land on a large ranch outside of Capitan, NM. The last name is Burlingame. I haven't been able to find anyone to claim them. I don't know if it's my age or the clock...but it is too much.
