My GGGG-grandparents were James Pitt (1756-1817)and Unity James(1771-1840) of Church Knowle, wed 1792 Lytchett Minster. James was the son of William Pitt and Ruth Street of Ringwood. I am descended from James and Unity's son, Thomas (b. 1799) and his wife Ann Lisby (b. 1799), wed 1819 St. James, Poole. Thank you for this website and your efforts. I look forward to anything else you may one day provide on this family.

Dear Sue & Gary

Well, what a sight for sore eyes! After months trawling IGI for some White background, i came across DOPC Corfe and now all its sister sites including this.

With a name like mine, getting the right answer is a nightmare. Resources like yours are just the ticket.

What a wonderful effort by all concerned, so my heart-felt thanks.

Paul

Thanks for a brilliant site - I'm doing some research for my niece into her father's family and went down to Church Knowle last week to have a look. Also amazed to find your transcriptions from Barry Chinchen as I know him from our mutual love of Lundy! Small world. Keep up the good work! Susan

Excellent site Sue, I chanced upon it while trying to trace a relative (Maria Sowley) who was apparently born at Knowle in 1842 and married William Ward in Leamington before migrating (somehow) to Australia and settling in Queensland. Their son John Ward made it to South Australia and is my Great Grandfather. I could not find any reference to a Sowley family but will keep looking. Regards
