I lived in Muskogee from 1956 to 1969, birth to age 13. I did not get a chance to attend Muskogee High School, but I remember Muskogee very well, and I miss it. I have had a chance to visit just a few times, and I see that the town had changed quite a lot. Thank you for posting the photos of the schools as they looked back then. Could you tell me the name of the school that is on the Pictorial Album 6 page?

Ok, guys, by the time I started to alice robertson, central high was long gone. But I can remember the articles in the phoenix about the change to the new school, ect. I'm not sure, but two of my uncles elbert ray and ira eugene(sonny)rouell might have gone to central. The main reason I am "commenting" is that I saw the picture of the old central on Sundays paper, AND IT IS SO MUCH MORE ATTRACTIVE than m.h.s on shawnee bypass. It looked like a place of learning! What a shame that Muskogee has no place for history like that. They have torn down all the old schools except riverside (I think). ? Did Central have 4 floors? By the pictures it looks like it. I can't call myself a grad. of CHS, but at least when I started 1st grade at Whittier, CHS was still in business.

I'm Judy DeCamp Jarvis. I visited Muskogee recently, saw Alice Robertson School, and remembered some of my classmates from there and Washington Elementary. I would have graduated from Muskogee CHS in 1960 but we moved to Tulsa when I was in 8th grade so I graduated from Tulsa CHS in 1960. Names I remember: Jan Douthit and brothers Rusty and Jack, Katherine Bruton and brother Jimmy I think, Sandra Kiser, Janie Welty and sisters Maureen and Patricia, Ricky Coffman and sister Carol a friend of my sister Susette, Linda Brooks and brother Phillip, Erma Jean Hicks, Danelle Foreman, Marshall Lee, Frances Sandwell, Johnna Sue Dyer, Sharon Watson; Teachers, Mary Anna Young, Mrs. Norman, Mrs Newberry (I think). Some year in the 50's while I was in elementary school we neighbood kids had a carnival to raise money for the Milk and Ice Fund. This is a nice site. Thanks.

I (Clarence Willaims) graduated from Central High School in 1959 (The first African American/male student @ Central. I was in the Band, and played a trombone. I marched in the front row (middle) of the band. I intergrated West Junior High School in 1955 (8th. grade) and went on to Central High. In 1959 (my senior year) the band was invited to march in the Mardi Gra parade, but had to cancel because I wasn't able to march with the band, or stay in the same hotel with the band. Can you believe how times have changed. I now live in Los Altos, CA (San Francisco Bay Area) I left Muskogee (2) weeks after graduation and moved to San Francisco, CA. (June 1959) I graduated from San Jose State University (Feb. 1967 with a BA Degree in Graphic Design/Commercial Art/Fine Arts. I am now (63) years old, almost ready to retire. I was very, very saddened to learn that the reunions for those classes from 1930's to the 1940's would not be held anymore. I recently went to a library function in which a MCHS graduate from 1936 and in very good health was in attendance. She mentioned that she was disappointed that no one would be getting together again. As these classes were very large, it seems that there could still be get togethers or some sort of contact for those still around. Especially with the internet as a way of staying in contact, which so many seniors use these days. Just a thought.

Hello, My name is Cinnamon Suschak. I am from WV and I am trying to find the person who belongs to a class ring I found. The ring is from Muskogee Central High School class of 1971 with the initials S.R.S. inside the band. I would like to return this ring to its owner. A Truck Driver was in our facility many years ago getting his truck repaired and left a small money bag behind; we are just now opening the bag and it only contained a couple dollars of change and this class ring. I have info. that tells me he may have went to this high school, however I do not know if he graduated or not.I know he came from a large family I think he was one of 12 or 13 children.I know his mom was mexican and his dad was white. I attended Muskogee Central High School and graduated in '56. My wife and I are retired and living in Reno, NV. I worked for United Air Lines for 34 years. We had lived in the San Francisco Bay area for over thirty years. We have two children and two grandchildren. We return to the Muskogee area to visit family several times a year.

have already. In the book TKM the explaination of
why not to use the word is far more important than
the word itself.
Although I have heard the old saying "sticks and stones
may hurt my bones but words can never hurt me" has
been redone for todays more sensitive. It is so easy
to rewrite and change things more to ones liking.
But, I think one learns from reading as much as anything
else and removing books won't improve people. It

My wife and I were somewhat dismayed and shocked to learn that your school has banned use of the book 'To Kill a Mockingbird' by Harper Lee, reportedly because it contains the word 'nigger'. We would be interested to learn the full story.
I taught english language and literature for 9 years in the UK and used this book several times with 14-15 year old pupils: always with great success. I felt its sensitive portrayal of intolerance was one of its great themes. The use of the infamous 'n' word was entirely appropriate. I recall that at one time this word was in common parlance (and I suspect it still is).

I played football at Okmulgee High from 73 to 75. We played the Roughers first game every year. The closest we got was a 7 to 6 loss my senior year. I liked playing at the Indian Bowl where I ran track also. Anyone know what happened to Bobby Jefferson (QB) or Henry Clemons (RB)? What about Bobby Smith? We both ran the wishbone and I would like to know if Henry remembers when I dropped him for a loss in Okmulgee in 74?

Thanks to the MHS Alumni who have created this wonderful method of finding old classmates and exchanging memories. I was in the last class to spend all 3 years at the old high school whereas my brother Mike was in the class to spend all three years going to the New High school.
After graduating from Old Central I stayed in Muskogee and worked 30 years at Acme Engineering and Manufacturing Corp. (Lee Buddrus's families business) I worked there until May of 2000 when I moved to Tucson Arizona. I will start working for American Airlines in January 2001, so maybe our paths may cross again. Have lost contact with my cousin, Joe Wayne Runnells who graduated in 1953. Anyone knowing an email address or where he might be now would really do me a favor by sending the information to me at this address.
I know he met in Muskogee with some of his class mates for lunch once a month. He was living in the Oklahoma City area.
I went to Washington Grade School (1st-6th) before we moved to Sulphur in 1947. I remember going across the street to the "big school" cafeteria. I visited Muskogee a number of years ago and was sadden when I found both Washington and Central High gone. Also, my old house on Elmira and the train station. Wow! Isn't progress wonderful :(

Update.. this is a great idea. Seeing all the names in the guestbook brougth back many pleasant memories. Does anyone have any info on previous graduating classes? My mother was Dorothy Spradling. Oscar Ray Spradling of the 1957 class was her brother. She would have graduated about 1944, I think. Just trying to find out anything I can about my mother. She past away in 1959 when I was young.
