I want to thank all who have worked on the obituary book and this website. It is a tremendous resource and a model of local history.
I teach American history at the University of Nebraska-Kearney, and specialize in American religious history. I often drive US 77 enroute to visiting family in NW IOwa, and often stop at the Logan Cemetary to picnic, stretch my legs and rest. Aside from the scenic view of the Logan Creek area, and the peaceful quiet, the obituary book gives such a marvelous insight into the history of the region and the people who are buried there.
I wish every cemetary was so fortunate!
I possess an old postcard from c. 1910 of the interior of "German Lutheran Church" in Winslow. It seems that there were many Lutheran Churches in the area, and this one no longer exists.
Could anyone tell me anything about the history of the "German Lutheran Church" in Winslow??
I suspect that some of the folks buried at Logan Cemetary belonged to this congregation, such as the Pannings, but am not 100% certain that my old postcard is the same German church mentioned in these obituaries.
Thanks again,
Dr. James Rohrer

Name: Darren Roe <buckeyebubblehead@yahoo.com> Date: 2009-12-14 Who, in this cemetery, are you related to? Jacob Fauss Do you have other information to share? yes Do you have pictures to share? I have pictures of the family mill in Germany and of Jacob's Father's grave in West Virginia. Will send soon. Comments:
I provided incorrect information earlier on Jacob Fauss' ancestry. He is not the son of Daniel and Phillipina Fauss as I stated earlier, but a nephew. There were many Jacobs in the family. Daniel Fauss immigrated in 1846 and settled near Lowell, Ohio. His brother Jacob (the father of the Jacob of Hooper, NE) immigrated later in 1853 and settled near Daniel. Jacob soon moved to neighboring Wood County West Virginia and was joined several years later by his brother Daniel. One of Daniel's sons, my great-great grandfather, remained in Ohio. Jacob was born in Langenbach, Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany in 1822, later living in Herschweiller-Pettersheim in the same area. The family operated a mill in Herschweiller-Pettersheim (the buildings are still standing and have been converted to housing). His father (also Jacob), a brother, David, and Sister, Mary, remained in Germany. The elder Jacob served for a term as Bergermeister of Herschweiller-Pettersheim.
The Jacob Fauss of Hooper was the son of Jacob Fauss (B: 1822 Langenbach, Rheinland Pfalz, Germany, D: 1895 Sand Hill, Wood County, WV) and Wilhelmina Hinneman (B 1821 Germany, D 1907 Sand Hill, Wood County, WV.

I'm Keith, son of george E., son of Arndt, son of J. Deithrich and Anna Moseman. (Buried in Logan Cemetery) The info I have on my Moseman ancestry I obtained from Dale Moseman's book. I have visted the Logan cemetery on 3 ocasions during the last 8 years. I grew up in Lyons and a school friend of mine in the 30s - early 40s was a Harry Wagner. Any relation? He may have been, Harry Wagner Jr. ~Sorta remember that.
I have my mother's (Moore) genealogy back to the 900s, maybe earlier, but only the Moseman "stuff" I obtained from Dale and my own family, George E,s. If there is something other than Dale's book, I'm not aware of it. I'm 80, living in GA. My address is 10221 Big Canoe, Jasper, GA 30143. I'd like to hear from you.
Thanks. (Very nice web site)

Dear Harry,
I found your Nebraska cemetary list very interesting. I have visited that area during the past years either on my own or with German tourgroups and have many contacts to the genealogical society over there. Many of these immigrants came from around Oldenburg, Germany. my home town. You might be interested to visit our website at www.routes.de and see our research and travel services listed. Among our projects is a Heritage Map (see web) that covers the home areas of these Oldenburg emigrants and a lot more of interesting information. Furthermore a database DELAUS (access through our website) or: www.auswanderung-delmenhorst.de lists ca 1.000 names and many documents of which a large share are related to the Nebraska area that once was called "Little Oldenburg".
Kind regards from the Old world

With your help my wife just found a ggggrandfather and mother in your website.... We are elated at this find. My family has been very hard to document their whereabouts. We haven't been able to find any information until now when the obituary told of my grandfather's immigration and his homesteading on the farm...... We really do appreciate this "find".. If we do have information to help someone else we will be more than happy to do so.... We have been researching for 10 years and have found lots of Raasch's and couldn't connect them til now...... THANK YOU

Aug 2, 1897 and was the mother of two sons - Benson Wagner Grant and Charles Grant. Do not know where she was born - she died in Galena, Cherokee Co. KS. J.C.F. Grant was born in LaCresent, Winona Co., MN - he might have married there, or IA or KS - where the oldest son, Benson Wagner was born Topeka, 1882. Anna just 'appears and disappears' I would love to connect with her family.
