I have been told that William the Conqueror is in the Bracey family tree. It is said that a William Braci b1225 married Maud De Warrenne. The De Warrenne's were in-laws to the aforementioned King through his daughter Gundred of Chester. I can find no record of Gundred being a daughter, if at all, a stepdaughter? Although in your reference Martha is only recorded as having the one child John Albert, she did in fact have 5. Wonderful site. I am interested in any African-American Bracy information. My father was a Williams but his uncle was Walter Bracy who was born in Mississippi and moved to Arkansas. His wife was Redema Bracy. Walter's father was Vigor and he had a brother named Preston. My father died when I was a baby and Walter was my only link and I am now at a dead end. She married 9 July 1859 in Claxton John BRACEY. He was born in Ashby St. Mary, 17 Jun 1829, C 12 Jul 1829, a husbandman, son of John BRACEY . In 1881 he was aged 48, an agricultural labourer, living in Whitlingham [RG11/1958, 151]. They had issue:
(1) William BRACEY. C 4 Mar 1864, Surlingham. He was an agricultural labourer, aged 17, living with his parents at Whitlingham in 1881. 1891: aged 27, coachman and groom, 26 Bethel Street, Norwich St. Peter Mancroft. He married Harriet HEWITT, Sep. Qr. 1890, Forehoe Dist. (4b 307). She was born about 1865 in Morley St. Peter.
(2) George BRACEY. Born about 1869, Kirby Bedon. Scholar aged 12, living with his parents in 1881

Was suprised to find out how far back by linage goes. I'm a Pearce now, but found my great grandfather Arthur Samuel (439). Context : My great-grandmother, Catherine Duggins, born 1867 @ Rhydyfelin, near Pontypridd, South Wales. Her mother’s maiden name was Eliza (Elizabeth) Duggins, born circa 1845; father is stated at Isaac Bracey (occupation Sinker). They had two (that survived childhood) children, Lidia (or Lydia), born circa 1863 and Catherine, born 17/02/1867. The 1871 Census has the two children living with the Duggins grand-parents – but no sign of the parents Bracey. The 1881 Census has no Isaac Bracey listed.
The marriage certificate, dated 13/11/1864 has Isaac’s father’s forename as being Samuel, occupation labourer. The certificate has the ’mark’ of Isaac Bracey, which is additional, useful information for confirmation.
The BD&M Records have an Isaac Bracey as being born 01/02/1840 @ Keynsham, Bristol – but I cannot be certain that this is one of the same. I do not have Isaac’s birth certificate, buy you say that the Keynsham Bracy’s father’s name was Samuel (139) – so who knows ….
I believe that Lidia emigrated to Australia so may have met up with her parents out there : This is speculation, but ….

One of the names I am researching is my husband's grandmother. Her name was Iva Belle Blanche Bracey. I have gotten back to a Dennis Bracey b 1834 Potton, Brome, Quebec married to a Elizabeth Walker. He is listed in the 1881 Canadian Census . It said he had Irish ancestry so I don't know if he is part of the line. I am stuck at his parents and lineage. Can you steer me in the right direction. I am researching the Kerns from Putnam County. William Kern who married Zerona Bracy was in my line. I am interested in knowing if you have any other information about this family. I know that they was a school associated with the family. They were living in Blanchard Twp. of Putnam in the late 1800's until their deaths in 1950 and 1960.

being in feeble bodily health; but being of sound
and disposing mind memory, and discretion, and

strength so to do, do make publish and declare this
to be my last will and testament, hereby revoking
any, and all former wills which may at any time

First;-I hereby nominate constitute and appoint my
husband William H. Bracey, of the said town of Gainesville

Second: after the payment of all of my just debts, of
which there are none, or but very few, and if any, of,
but very trivial amounts, and my funeral expenses,

die seized and possessed both real estate and personal
property, consisting as I now remember the same, of the
house and lot in the town of Gainesville, Florida, upon
which I now reside, which was heretofore conveyed to me by
my husband, William H. Bracey, and all of its tenements
and hereditaments and appertenances, and another lot
now owned by me, and situated also in said town of Gaines-
ville in Alachua County Florida, the same being a part of
a lot heretofore conveyed to me by R.F. Taylor, as Com-
missioner, and also a tract of land situated on "Bivens
Arm" in Alachua County, Florida, now owned by me and
which was conveyed to me by two deeds from Misses Metlard
and Sage and also all my household furniture,
and everything connected with my dwelling house
in the shape of personal property. I hereby give devise
and bequeath the whole of said real personal property
and estate, to my much loved husband William
H. Bracey of Gainesville, Alachua County Florida and
to my two daughters Lola Morris (wife of Oscar D. Morris)
and Alva Bracey, who is still a minor, in equal pro-
portions, share and share alike, that is to say, one third
part of the whole of my estate real & personal is hereby
devised and bequeathed to such of them the said William H. Bracey Lola Morris, and Alva Bracey, to Have and
to hold the same unto them and each of them, and to their
and each of their heirs and assigns forever.
Provided, however, and the said devise and bequest is to
be at all times subject to the following stipulations and express
conditions, that is to say: it is my will and desire &

are hereby expressly declared to have on right under my will

I have just recently discovered my link to a Bracey family of Mangotsfield, Gloustershire, England. I do not have many details,but I was wondering if anyone can link me to the correct family. Here is what I know at this time. Hester Bracey Born abt.1831 married Charles Harris (a stone mason/cutter. They were living at Mansgotsfield Common in 1864 when there daughter Emma was born. Emma married Arthur Atkinson in Wakefield, Yorkshire in 1884.The 1881 census shows Hester's mother Ann age 72 as a widow and residing in Altofts, Yorkshire with them at that time.There was also a James Bracey age 27 listed as a boarder (could this be Emma's brother. I've enjoyed your site. I'm not really a BRACEY descendant, but I believe that I may have a CLINARD connection to this line. Evaline and John R. BRACEY are buried in Mt. Sharon Cumberland Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Robertson Co., TN. I believe she may be Nancy Evalina CLINARD, b. 1848, dau. of Brown C. CLINARD and Nancy P. RAWLS (m. 1847, Robertson Co. TN). I noticed on your site that John and Evaline had a son named Brown, and that their son, Phineas, named one of his sons, Boyd. Boyd was the name of Nancy Evalina's brother. Evalina's mother died in 1850, and her father died in 1862 in the Civil War. After Nancy's death, Brown C., b. c1837, married Eliza Parker in 1859. After Brown C. died in the war, Eliza married my g grandfather's brother, James Hardie CLINARD.To complicate things even more, I believe (but haven't proven it, yet) that Brown C. CLINARD was the brother of my gg grandfather, Sanford CLINARD, b. 1820 (father of James Hardie CLINARD). If you have any other information about Evaline who married John R. My name is Colin Bracey. I just came across your website and found it very interesting. My Grandfather (Frank Bracey) died 2 years ago leaving me with a very comprehensive family tree which he had documented by an American Gentleman (I dont have his name at hand). Last year I published a book on the Brac(e)y family with major emphasis on the children of William Thomas Bracy born in 1842. However, in the book there is a concise history of the family. I placed books in the Ashland City, TN library, Clarksville, TN library, Springfield, TN. Library, and the State Library of TN in Nashville. My great-grandfather was an African-American Bracey. His name was X.L. Bracey and he was born in Kentwood, Louisiana, which happens to be a hop-skip-and a jump away from Brookhaven, MS. where my grandmothers family is from (Swanigan). I can not find any information about his father or mother. I have a strong feeling he was illegitimate. And I did find a Xenophen Lynch Bracey (hence, X.L. Bracey) who died in Mississippi with 16 slaves. Does anyone know, for sure, if he fathered any of his slaves, or if any of his sons fathered black children or slaves?

My cousin and I have been trying to trace our ancestry. We believe that we are descendants of Thomas Bracey & Mary Floyd, who had a son Samuel Bracey married to Tabitha Hicks. They had a son Harrison Hyrom Bracey married to Mary Ann Williams. I believe Harrison to be my great-great- grandfather. He had a son William L. Bracy that married Margaret Nancy Jane Carr. Your website is wonderful! It has helped me to fill in many question areas in my genealogy info. It's very informative and looks great too! I found your website by surfing the web in an effort to find Trawick/Bracey info. And when I saw your name I knew this was the right place to look for accurate info. I've heard your name mentioned so many times through the years because my aunt was a genealogist who corresponded with you regularly. My aunt was Delma -Kincheloe/Mock- Ashcraft. The genealogy info. I'm lucky to have is what my aunt shared with her sister, LaVeta Davis, who is my mother. I wish Delma could have seen your website as I know she would have been thrilled to see what you have done with the info you two corresponded about for so many years.
I'm a beginner in genealogy but wish I would have been more interested in genealogy in earlier years so my aunt and I could have shared the mutual interest together. My Mother and I live in SC and missed a lot by not being near Delma (in Kansas). I can't help but feel her presence while my mother & I are researching the Braceys, Mocks, etc.
E-mail me sometime. I live in Columbia SC and could possibly help with questions you might have regarding the Braceys, etc. My Mother & I have visited NC several times looking for Mary Ann C Bracey info, etc. (Right now we're trying to locate Othneil Trawick's burial site but haven't have much luck todate.)

Do you know our Thomas BRACY?
He was born 1778 possibly in RI. He married Waite WING in 1799 possibly at Richmond, NH. Waite was the daughter of John WING and Margaret BUFFAM. She was born 1777/78 RI/NH. By 1818 they were in Clinton, Oneida, NY where one of their sons, William Henry BRACY was born. They were in New Haven, Oswego, NY before 1828. Thomas died there 19 Aug 1828. Waite died in New Haven 14 May 1858. They are both buried in the cemetery behuind the Methodist Church in New Haven.
Thomas, who were your parents? Your siblings? Where were you born?
My relative Isabel BRACY was the Madison County,NY Historian. She looked in vain for proof of Thomas for over 60 years.

He is buried at the ME Church in New Haven. I do have some info on his descendents but as I am searching myself they are far from complete. Does anyone out there know of Thomas?

My grandfather was Tom Bracey, who died around 1934-37. He was married to Bessie Jones Bracey. Both are buried at Ashpole Cemetary in Rowland, NC.

My paternal grandmother was Emily Maria Bracey, born in Westbury-On-Trym on May 30, 1875. In attempting to find out more information, I have been in contact with William Bracey, Corona del Mar, CA. He kindly sent me information that indicates she was the eldest child of George Henry Bracey and Emily Rake. It also shows that George Henry was born to Henry Bracey an Maria Taylor, and yet when I review the information on this site, is shows that George Henry died in 1854, which cases me to be quite confused. I am new at this, so please excuse me! I was lucky enough to know my grandmother, but she died in 1956, when I was not yet 14, so I did not have enough time to talk to her about the Bracey family. My father, Charles Frederick Milliner is still alive, but does not have any records to pass on to me. He was the youngest of 10 and born to my grandmother when she was 44 yrs of age. Also, my father has been the only surviving child since 1957. I would love to find out more about our line of the Bracey family, but am unsure where to start. We are now residents of Canada.

My mother Joan Bracey received a letter from Wm Bracey. I have the family tree of Richard Bracey d. 1659(Watlington).
This family has been in the Oxon, Berkshire area since that time. Unfortunately cannot find any reference to them on your web site. This family tree was compiled by Clive Bettison, from Lambourn, Berkshire UK and I know he has done a lot of work on this branch of the family since then.
My family are in Qld Australia - we emigrated from Berkshire England in the 1970's and I have one brother and family out here - Henry Bracey but I still have a brother Robert in Berkshire and a sister Mary in Coffs Harbour, NSW, Australia.

I enjoyed your site very much. I may be decended from a Susannah Ligon, there are some reports she married by 4th GGF Samuel Ward, and died in Washington Co., KY. Samuel Ward's daughter Tabitha married my 3GGF Mastin Bond. Mastin was the son of John and Susannah (Wade) Bond, marriedHalifax Co VA 1782. Another Bond, who I believe is related to John, just don't know how, from Halifax Co VA served in the Rev War in place of "Joseph Leggon" who was likely a Ligon. Halifax had 4 Joseph Ligons at the time. Two were Jospeh and and his son Jospeh Jr., and the other two were Jospeh "Fork" and his son Jospeh "Fork" Jr., I think they lived near the fork in the rivers in Halifax Co.
