John Blanton, of Lancashire, England, my direct ancestor, was knighted by Queen Elizabeth I in 1574. His direct descendant, Thomas Blanton, emigrated to America in the mid 17th century with his brother. Thomas arrived in Virginia, and there is a direct patrilineal line to my great great grandfather, William Whitaker Blanton of Mississippi, who was the father of my great-grandfather, William Campbell Blanton, who attended Princeton University in the 1850s, fought in the 28th Mississippi Cavalry, died in Fredericksburg Virginia in 1869 and is buried in Greenville, Mississippi. His sosn, my grandfather, also William Whitaker Blanton, married Florence Alexander, and they are buried in Lake Providence, Louisiana. Their only son, my father, John Aleander Blanton (Sr.) was born and buried in Lake Providence, Louisiana, and I am his only son (and child), John Alexander Blanton (Jr.), born in 1945, in Vicksburg, Mississippi. My son, Jacob Joseph, age 15, is the last in the direct line, father to father, from the original John Blanton, in 16th century England. There is valuable biographical/historical material in the Blanton/Smith collection in the archives of the University of Mississippi. John A. Blanton, Los Angeles, California

Comments:
My family with their own knowledge, stories, family bibles and documents traced the line and it has a considerable amount of information. including last names of wives and the routes members of the family took. I am the daughter of Mary Pauline Blanton, daughter of Robert Decatur Blanton and Ida Vida Pardue.
Many have her name and vitals wrong. most of the census have her as pardue Blanton and her mother was listed as Algie, who was the second wife of Robert after the death of Ida Vida pardue 1875-1917, died 19 days after the birth of her tenth child Ben Albert. Algie was the daughter of the brother of Robert decatur Blanton's mother. Malinda Adeline Robinson. Robert and Algie were 1st cousins. They had 5 more children and moved from I believe either Telico Plains or Sweetwater TN to Sarasota Florida and have lived here since abt 1923. If you would like a copy of this hand written tree I would love to share it with you. I have had a copy for about 25 years now. The Authors are gone but their children are well in their 70's and 80's. Robert and Algie Blanton are buried here in Sarasota along with many more of the family.
Thanks
Susan Best Dagenhart

My grandmother, Madie Nadine Blanton (Cryer) (Weatherford), was researching the Blanton family name before she was overcome with Alzheimer's and has since passed (b. March 15, 1928, d.November 2006). She would organize Blanton reunions all over Texas and i remember many ppl attending these reunions, some coming from as far away as Austrailia. I am greatly interested in my heritage and would love to learn exactly which side of the Blanton family i decend from. I remember a few details but do not have any of the research that she came up with, when she became ill, alot of her belongings were disperced amoungst family memebers. Any information would be greatly appreciated! Just a note: my dad and my son bear the Blanton family name as their middle name!!

Earliest Known Blanton Ancestor Charles Blanton
Comments:
I am Jack Blanton of Rittman Oh, Cousin. My Blanton family has always been in Caroline and Essex Counties, Va. since the arrival of Thomas Blanton 1682. Charles Blanton was a Greatgrandson of Thomas and had a plantation in lower Caroline, Dawn,Va. He was my GreatGreatGreatGreat Grandfather. The only Blanton remaining in Caroline by 1800. He had a large family but his family held the lands until 1939. My Great Grandfather came to Tappahannock 30 miles from Dawn in 1887. According to the History of Caroline book printed 1924, it is supposed upon good authority the Blantons of caroline are French Hugeunots who fled to England before 1600. Thomas was likely the 3rd generation removed from France. In studing the Blandings history it is believed though family tales that the family one in the same as the Blantons lived in the area of Lyon France. This was a area where many Hugeunots were pressured early on to flee. There is a village near Lyon named Blandin. In England the name was used as Blanton, Blantin, Blantine. William Blanton or Blantine came to Boston 1639 and his family later used the name as Blanding.

Am trying to tie Thomas Blanton (1545-1697) to this John Blanton. May not be connected, tho.
My known family threads go from John (father)(b 1760) to son Isaac (b 1784) to son James (b 1810) to son Elihu P (b 1840) to son Luther (b 1879) to my mom.
Would like to connect with anyone with info on these ancestors.
Am writing a record (not a book) of passed down stories/info of what each did during their lifetimes for my decendants.

Comments:
I just completed reading the "Hughes Springs Texas Histories", published in 1986.
The book is not organized by page numbers, rather article numbers, article number 104, Goodson Community, was once the Plantation of the Blanton Family pre- Civil War. Have you every had the opportunity to reseach the Goodson Community to determine if there was actually a plantation or just a farm. I also read the history on Cass CO.Texas. The writer discusses the fact the early settlers brought with them their salves.Do you have any information to confirm if the Blanton's that settled in the Hughes Spring area actually had slaves? Also which Blanton's actually settled in the Hughes area?

My Great Grandmother Susan Blanton, born 1861, Walker Co. AL., daughter of Benjamin and Fatine(Timmie)Holly Blanton.
Susan married John Thomas Sanders, b. 1864, Walker CO. AL.
My primary line is the Sanders family. My mother Lillian Sanders, married Loyd Albert King.
John T. Sanders was the son of Marcus De Lafayette Sanders, b. 1827, Muscogee, GA. Marcus married Francis Ann(Riddlespurgers)or Spurgers, b.1830, d.1907, Walker CO. AL.

Hope to hear from you,
Sincerely,

Preston L. King
