I have just discovered that my g-g-grandmother through my mother's side was Elizabeth Gilchrist (one reference only and not sure whether that spelling is accurate); she married William Grumont and they had at least one child Henry W. Grumont b. circa 1858 (said to be Ballarat Vic, Aust) but no record found yet. Family developed from there and was strongly rooted in Macedon, Victoria. Of course interested in any info relating to her or her husband, where they originated from, whether in fact they migrated to Australia. Anyway I'll keep an interest in your site.

Tom Gilchrest, just before he died, sent me a wonderful round-up of the family lore concerning the name(s). Until then I had no clue that Kilcrease-Gilcrease-Gilchrist-Gilchrest were seemingly interchangeable. It has heightened the mystery of who were the parents of George. One clue that he was related to Priscilla Amelia is the name of one daughter, Permelia Frances Ann Kilcrease b. December 23, 1847.

I was searching for my paternal grandfather's first wife and connected to your address. Her last name was Jenkins and possibly the first name of Olivia or Octavia, born around 1890. My grandfather, Henry G Broadwater, and Jenkins divorced in the early 1920's in Alabama. Your information intrigued me as I have a "brick wall" in my Broadwater research. Charles M., my g-g-grandfather lived with a Gilchrist family in Edgefield, SC. He moved around 1850 to Russell County, Alabama and raised his family.
Possibly the Broadwater/Jenkins family were related thus the marriage. This is a very interesting story as we do not know why the couple divorced, but do know that she had two children, supposedly, while my grandfather was in World War I. He came home, they split and my grandmother(his second wife) was constantly harassed for many years by a man and woman claiming to be his children from the first marriage. Hope I have not confused you on any of this....it's quite easy in genealogy, but with the Broadwater and Gilchrist names coming together is strange. Thank you

I can count back 6 generations on our side of the family tree. My dad is Gordon Nelson Gilchrist, my grandfather is Leonard Darrell Gilchrist, my great-grandfather is William Gordon Gilchrist, my great-great-grandgather is John William Gilchrist, my great-great-great grandfather is John A. Gilcrease(Gilchrist), and my great-great-great-great-grandfather is John Gilcrease (Gilchrist). That is as far back as I have been able to trace. I do not know who John Gilcrease's parents were or who his siblings are. I have reason to believe that John Gilcrease could be the brother of Nimrod Gilchrist who came to America around 1751 and settled around the Georgia-South Carolina area. Is there any way you could help me gather more information? I would love to hear from you.
