RANCHO sure was a great foundation for the rest of our lives, it appears?
When I was carrying radio and driving for Lt. Col. HAL G. MOORE in Vietnam, my fellow RAHS Class of 1960 Alumni JOHN GILARDI was doing the same for our 1st Cavalry Division Commanding General HARRY W.O. KINNARD.
KINNARD of "NUTS" Fame at World War II's Battle of Bastogne during the Battle of the Bulge.
Both Command Heroes were featured in the Randall Wallace Motion Picture "WE WERE SOLDIERS" starring Mel Gibson as my Commanding Officer Lt. Col. MOORE.
No matter what, JOHN GILARDI and I always had our warm experiences at Rancho to pull from when things got a bit dicey for us long ago far, far away.
I recently have been blessed to be Guest Speaker at Rancho Alamitos Annual Awards Ceremonies, held in the very Boys (now North) Gym where young Freshman STEVE MARTIN entertained us all in School Assemblies every 2 weeks during my Senior year. A year that ended with my crowning MARTIN as 'King of the Freshman Class Dance in 1960. Some just peak a little early in life, I guess..?
I now represent California State Assemblyman VAN TRAN, the 1st Vietnamese American to be elected to a State Legislature in U.S. History, to the City of Garden Grove where I grew up.
VAN TRAN was a 1 year old little boy growing up in Saigon, Vietnam just 150 miles South from where we were busy fighting for his Freedom in the Central Highlands of 1965.

I wasn't real popular, I was friends with Ronnie and Donnie Gibson and a few other parasites. lol. I am Jimmie Lee Rowe (Boice) brother. I married Joyce MsNaughton right out of School and I went into the Army. I was also a good friend of Jack Chastain, we both lived in Eastgate housing tract. Chapman & Knott in Garden Grove we called it Garbage Grove, ha. I remember Crow Village, Bolsa Chica. I met my second wife at a Strawerry Festival at Bolsa Chica High School. I think we married in 1966.
Well, I moved to Oklahoma to retire. I actually retired and moved to Panama in Central America stayed 3 months and came back. I really loved it there & I may move back. I moved here bacause of my health. I'm part Creek Indian and our Tribe is here and I was born here. I get all my medical and meds for free from my Tribe.if I get better I may move back to Panama, C.A. I loved that Big Ditch (the Panama Canal). Drop me a line if you remember me, Larry Rowe.

Nice to see pic of E. Meador...she was always so understanding. Anyone thinking of living in North Dakota...DON'T! I went to Rancho for my Freshman and part of my Sophmore year. I didn't graduate from the "Ranch" but my heart did. I graduated in Hawthorne, Nevada. My father's job took him to the Naval Ammunitions Depot in Hawthorne.

It's funny to see all the names after all the years have passed. Unfortunatley my ex destroyed all my yearbooks but could never remove the memories.
I remember "Late-Night" swimming parties in our backyard pool and the "boys" watching us over the fence (Tony Knight, you know I'm talking about you) to our embarrasment! If we'd only known you were peeking!!!
Many fond memories of beach parties, Irvine late at night and eating "strips" by the "Huntington Beach" pier.

As a 1959 graduate I really enjoyed participating in the formation or Rancho Alamitos' beginnings such as, deciding on school colors, school song, mascot, etc.

It was an interesting experience starting off a new school for all of us that transferred from GG High. The naming, motto and such having been established by the first class. My contribution was sticking a thistle tube in the ceiling of Don Kaylors class room during a lab experiment. I served a four year enlistment in the USAF and two years later enlisted in the US Army to fly helicopters. I had two tours in Viet Nam and survived being shot down twice during the first tour.
