I deeply regret that my grandfather died so young in 1942. My father was 10 years of age when he lost his father and they left Zionsville permanently. One generation later, I feel a significant historical loss and although I was born in California, I have never felt at home here. Home is where the heart is and my heart, because of my strong sense of family history, is truly in Zionsville.

My g-g-grandfather, David Cohee, kept a daily diary from 1873 to 1934. He lived in Washington Twp. Boone County for nearly all his life (from age 1 or 2). He was very active at Bethel Church and was a cemetery caretaker and gravedigger there.
I have seen 13 of his diaries that relatives have. Many, many people local to Washington Twp. and Boone Co. are mentioned. I am preparing a transcription of surname-event entries from these diaries, but I also was able to scan 1931. David, or possibly someone else because the handwriting is different, recorded the Click family descendants from Nicholas Click (David's father in law), who settled in Boone Co. I was also able to scan this book, which I call the "Click Book." I sent a CD with all page images to the Lebanon library--check with Heritage Room if you want to view the images. When I get the transcript done, I'll send that to the library as well.

Thanks for your query on this guestbook Lance, however, I always suggest that visitors post queries to one of the Boone County message boards that are specifically designed for that purpose, and will more likely be seen and receive more possible replies. You'll find links to the message boards on the main site's index. I was able to find a burial reference for Lydia WALKER in Precinct Cemetery in Washington Twp., and I've posted it on the site. You can see the entry from the following link: http://www.rootsweb.com/~inboone/cemeteries/burials-headstones.htm#W . The source of the information was, "Cemeteries of Boone County, Indiana Vol I." Good luck!

I live in Wisconsin and was on my way home from visiting a cousin in Indianapolis. I saw the Thorntown exit and since my grandmother (Bertha Hadley) was born in Thorntown, I thought I would stop and find the Freinds Church. I walked around in the cemetery and found Cynthia Ann Cook Moffitt Woody's gravestone. I was not prepared for the response I felt when I found it...I wept, thinking of the wonderful heritage I have. Many of the old stones were not able to be read, but what a thrill I had knowing that I was walking in the footsteps of dear ones gone before.
