Researching my fathers side of the family, his mother was McIntosh.I take my middle name from her maiden surname.
John Mackintosh (variation on surname) born in Urquhart c1782 I have found his death certificate on Scotlands People web site and he died 4th March 1869, he was a Fox-hunter, Gamekeeper.Married Margaret Fraser and they resided in the parish of Urquhart.Address is given on the 1861 census as Escard. I'm looking to researc further back if possible, any information would be most welcome, if you have come across them while researching your own family tree. This is possibly my Great Grandfather or one of his brothers, very little is known other then he was from Illinois and possibly New York.We have a family bible dated 1896 with his name on the cover but no family information was ever filled out.He is believed to be either the Father or Uncle of Gordon McIntosh of Illinois.

Joseph MacIntosh is my paternal great grandfather. I find evidence of him in the family bible and the Jersey City Census. The Bible lists his parents as Louise Slocum MacIntosh and Theodore MacIntosh. I find reference to a Theodore MacIntosh as having fought in the Civil War in a NY division, but there I stop. This branch of my family lived lived in NYC and thereabouts. It is my understanding from family oral history that they were in the country for a long time and not recently (as in 1900's) emigrated from Scotland, but that might not be true.
