Darlene,
I am going to give my search for Marvil Elkins of Ohio a rest for now since I have presently accummulated all that I think on Marvil's trail.
My research has changed since my last submission with this Elkins Site. I offer the updated and tentative research below.
I noticed that larry Jacobson responded with the suggestion for a contest to find Marvil in the records.
Thanks Larry. Your originl information was very inspiring and challenged me to find deeper answers.
As a novice Ancestor hunter, I have certainly been aided by many gracious folks (complete strangers) who I consideer friends and family now. Larry, Cecil, Joyce, Vanessa and Darlene--God Bless You.
Darlene,
It is nice to see your site updated and active. I encourage everyone who makes a stop at this Elkins Site to be diligent (as your family life allows), patient, respectable, humble, straightforward and faithful as you participate in the historical records of our Elkins past.
I am a fourth grade elementary teacher who has taught the subject of Ohio History for 13 years now. Learning about my roots will not make me rich, famous or guilty, but it will give me a topic of discussion with students to challenge them to be proud of their heritage---you never know what you may find. (The fathers eat the sour grapes and the children's teeth are set on edge --so to speak)
I mourn for today's children in America--the victims of a secular, relativist zietgiest (spirit of the age)with no roots and too many come-and-go fathers. I want these to realize that even Jesus had a "step" father ie. Joseph. And Jesus obeyed the authority of his "supportive" foster father. By virtue of Joseph's goodness (a grace by God the Father) and Mary's "Yes" to her spouse (the Holy Spirit),
all children have a true father and mother--by grace and the inheritance of the Saints. I realize this sounds "religious," but one cannot research the Elkins ancestry without bumping into Seperatist baptists or English Anglicans. Family Bible is where important information on families usually ends up. We have to give God some credit for this--at least.
One person tells six persons. Tell your relatives about the Elkins Research and possibly new things will be realized about your own personality, character and physiological form. :)
If this sounds like a commercial--so be it.
Generation Five
MARVIL ELKINS
(Richard4, Ralph3, Richard2,Ralph1)
MARVIL OR MARVEL ELKINS5 was born Abt. 1780 in Virginia. He married Nancy Sharp at Kanawha, Virginia in 1800 as it is so recorded by James Johnston. Nancy was born in Pennsylvania or Virginia Abt. 1784 and died October 12, 1866 in Lawrence County, Ohio.
The parents of Marvil Elkins are a mystery. No records exist (to date) providing definitive proof for his birth or pedigree. Several ancestry charts have Marvil attached to Elkins generations without evidence. Various dates are offered for his birth between 1755 and 1790, yet sources offer no valid record. When a person's name appears out of nowhere, it could be that the person’s parents died very young leaving no paper trail. It could also be the person was taken in by neighbors and adopted a family surname. A person may also assume a name incognito, attempting to hide a sordid background and start a new life. Given such possibilities, we can gather a variety of records surrounding the life of Marvil Elkins providing a strong certitude that he descended from the Elkins families of southwestern Virginia in the 18th and 19th centuries.
Richard Elkins5 (of Nancy McGuire Elkins) is listed as 80 years old in the 1850 Census of Logan County, Virginia, indicating that he was the Richard Elkins born 1768. In Henry Clay Ragland’s History of Logan County, W.Va., this same Richard5 is mentioned as settling on Island Creek in Logan County with his brothers, Zach5 and William5 nearby in the Hewett
area. These brothers were sons of Richard Elkins4 (born about 1730; died after 1801 in Tazewell County). These men are believed to be the brothers of Marvil Elkins5 (of Nancy).
If Marvil (of Nancy) had brothers in Logan County, he was probably an uncle to a younger Marvel who married Rhoda Vance. In the 1850 Federal Census of Logan County West Virginia, Marvel (of Rhoda) is listed with eight children. One of these children was named Marvel Elkins Jr. Marvel Elkins (of Rhoda Vance) and Marvil Elkins (of Cora B.) are seen in subsequent Federal census records and their lineage is well documented.
One connection that Marvil Elkins has with the southwest Virginia Elkins families is geographical in nature. Richard Elkins4 was granted land in the vicinity of Kanawha County, Virginia in 1785.
 Richard Elkins - 24 Jun 1785

MARVIL ELKINS5 (Richard4, Ralph3, Richard2, Ralph1) cont.
In the Kanawha County Land Tax List for 1791, a Marcus or Marvil Elkins is listed. The cursive handwriting of the two names is very similar in script. This Marcus is named a decade before the Marvel Elkins of Logan County born in 1806. It is possible that an error was made by the historical transcriber when interpreting the name Marvil Elkins on the 1791 Kanawha County land Tax List. The following fonts suggest a possibility.
Marcus / Marvil
Marcus / Marvil
Marvil could have inherited land at age 16, paid taxes on it in 1791, and sold the land soon thereafter. This may explain why he does not appear on subsequent Kanawha County tax lists.
This is all speculation, of course.
In 1793, Richard Elkins4 was granted land in the vicinity of Marcus or Marvil of Kanawha County.
 Richard Elkins - 15Jan 1793
Montgomery County 98 a. On the Muddy fork of Wolf Creek a branch of New river
Grants No. 27, p. 430
More reliable documentation places our Marvil Elkins5 in close proximity with the southwest Virginia Elkins families before 1800. According to the Tazewell County Deed Book 1, 1800-1809, Zachariah Elkins5 married Rachel of Kanawha County, Virginia. Marvil married Nancy Sharp in the same county at about the same time.
In The History of South Point Village, our Marvil Elkins5 is mentioned as a pioneer who hunted in the Ohio River Valley.
“By the 1820s, other settlers in the South Point geographic areas, ranging from
the “upriver narrowsö to the “downriver narrowsö below Sheridan, included the families of…Marvil Elkins….ö (written by Art Ferguson and published by the South Point Centennial Committee in 1988).
The 1820 United States census of Lawrence County, Ohio is helpful in determining the approximate age of our Marvil Elkins5 . In the 1820 census, Marvil’s age is listed [26 to 45]. A middle-age female is listed with him [26 to 45]. Younger males and females are also listed, denoting his children and grandchild, Loranney. We must assume that Marvil is between 36 to 45 years of age in 1820 in order to agree with his age in 1800 when he married Nancy Sharp Elkins. Marvil’s birth is deduced by subtracting 16 or 25 years from 1800—making the date of his birth between 1784 and 1775.
MARVIL ELKINS5 (Richard4, Ralph3, Richard2, Ralph1) cont.
In 1820, Marvil and Nancy Elkins were at Gallipolis, in Lawrence County, Ohio (Union Township) when their oldest daughter, Lucy, married Alexander Forgey. Alexander came to Union Township, Lawrence County, Ohio Abt. 1802 with his parents. He married Lucy, Marvil and Nancy’s oldest daughter, on June 18, 1820. It is believed that Lucy had a child, Loranney, out of wedlock. She was raised by Marvel and Nancy. Sometimes Lucy and Loranney are seen as sisters in genealogical listings.
In the 1830 United States Census for Lawrence County, Ohio, Marvel Elkins5 is no longer listed as a resident of Union Township, Lawrence County, Ohio. Nancy Elkins is shown living next door to James Foster who married Sarah Elkins6 . Incidentally, between the years 1818 – 1830, the State of Ohio brought two separate cases against James Forgey (Case # 202) and Nancy Elkins (Case # 203). James Forgey was a brother to Lucy Elkins Forgey’s husband, Alexander.
Alexander was beginning to acquire real estate at the same time. It is speculated that Nancy was settling debts in the absence of her husband, Marvil. No death certificate, obituary or cemetery listing is recorded in Lawrence County, Ohio to explain the absence of Marvil Elkins5.
In the 1840 United States Census of Kanawha County, Virginia, a Marvil Elkins is listed.
This Marvil is listed as a [male], age [50 under 60]. Listed on the same line with Marvil are
two [female] entries. One is listed as age [40 under 50], while the other is listed as age [10 under 15]. The age of each individual begs the question that Marvil left Nancy Sharp for another woman before the 1830 Federal census. As listed in the 1840 census of Kanawha County, Virginia, Marvil’s age is consistent with the records provided on the 1820 census of Lawrence County, Ohio. Marvil does not appear again in any census records. From this, we can reasonably conclude that Marvil raised another family in Virginia on the eve of the Civil War and was never heard from again on formal state records—although one other account provides
possible support for Marvil’s ambiguous and colorful life.
The West Virginia Division of Culture and History provides a “newspaper clippingö at its website titled: “A Story of Marvel Elkins, a Character of Fifty Years Ago, (n.p.n.d.).ö The article provides support for more speculation or evidence that Marvil eventually lived away from the affairs of men in Kanawha County. The article is undated and no author is credited (n.p.n.d.). Several newspapers from Charleston, West Virginia and/or National magazines are possible candidates for the article since they include various articles on the early culture and history of Charleston, West Virginia. These include: Harpers Weekly,1890; St. Albans Reporter, 1900; Advertiser,1922; Sunday Advertiser, 1925; Exponent, 1937; Buckhannon Record, 1938; Charleston Gazette, 1938; WV News, 1938; Charleston Daily Mail, 1939; and Kanawha Valley Edition Charleston Daily Mail, 1939. WV Hillbilly, 1982 is too late to include but provides a humorous anecdote for the following article.
MARVIL ELKINS5 (Richard4, Ralph3, Richard2, Ralph1) cont.
THE “OLDEST INHABITANT.ö
_____
A Story of Marvel Elkins, a Character of
Fifty Years Ago.
It was drawing well on toward noon when the “Oldest Inhabitantö dropped in to see us Saturday. He lives several miles out in the country and rarely comes to town more than once a week, and Saturday is usually the day he selects to lay in his supply of “tobackerö and other necessities of life. He seems to rather enjoy the notoriety his stories are giving him and we feel satisfied that he will never come to town without paying us a visit, at least as long as his stock of stories lasts. To-day he gave a very self-satisfied grunt as he dropped into the only big arm chair we keep in the office, and after burying his hands in his pockets and spitting two or three times in the middle of our carpet, notwithstanding the fact that two spittoons were standing within easy reach, he said:
“Well, I reckon old Marvel Elkins was a little the oddest feller that ever lived in these parts.ö
As we had never met Mr. Elkins, and to the best of our knowledge had never heard of him before, we could neither corroborate or dispute his remark, so we maintained a discreet silence and waited for him to proceed, as we knew he would. After waiting a few minutes, he went on:
“I guess there are mighty few people living now who do remember old Marvel. It’s been a long time since I heard anybody call his name, but I remember him just as well as though I had seen him only yesterday.
Where he came from I never heard and when he came here it would be hard to tell. He was ‘Old Marvel’ when I first knew him and everybody seemed to think he had always been here. He had an old log cabin back in the hills, about two miles from Charleston, on the south side of Kanawha, and lived there alone. I could go right now and in less than an hour could show you exactly where his house stood. Marvel must have been 80 years old—he couldn’t have been much less—and a more unprepossessing mortal, I guess, never lived. He was bent nearly double with rheumatism, and made his living by making and selling ax handles and laths, which were all rived out of pine in them days. He would trade off his ax handles to the groceries for coffee and would carry this around on his back and trade it to the neighbors for meal, butter, eggs, or anything else that he could use. And he seemed to think it was a bounded duty on the part of his neighbors, who, by the way, lived several miles apart then, to have something to trade whenever he came around. If they didn’t he would cuss a blue streak. Whenever a new house was to be built in town, Marvel reaped a harvest. He was always ready to furnish laths
to order, and even to this day there is not a pine tree of any size standing anywhere for miles on the south side of Kanawha, that does not bear his mark, where he chipped it to see if it would rive. If it wouldn’t, it is standing yet. One of his peculiarities was that he would answer all friendly salutions, such as ‘good morning’ or ‘howdy, Mr. Elkins’ with a peculiar shrill scream that could be heard a quarter of a mile. The children all over the neighborhood thought him something uncanny, and feared him worse than they did the wrath to come.ö
“What became of him?ö we asked.
There’s where the story comes in. I don’t know what became of him and I don’t guess anybody else does. The story goes that about forty years ago a peddler wandered through this part of the country on his way east. He had been down in Ohio, or somewhere out there, and had made considerable money, all of which he carried with him, and as he was getting old he concluded to go east, settle down and end his days, surrounded by some of the comforts of civilization. shanty, and as there was no other habitation near, and night was drawing on, he concluded to stay with the old man until morning. Some one saw him going in that direction about dusk, and no one ever saw him afterwards.ö
“Well, what of it? We asked.
“I don’t know that there was anything of it, but people thought it strange and wondered why it was that he was never seen again. Another very strange thing was that Marvel abandoned his cabin about the same time and lingered around Charleston for a few days, dressed better than any one had ever seen him dressed before, and finally left for parts unknown, presumably for Ohio. Then people began to wonder why he left and how he got the money to go, and somebody recollected having seen two pairs of tracks leading from his house about the time of the peddler’s disappearance, and only one pair leading back. The man, whoever he was, said he followed the tracks nearly half a mile and then lost trace of them but as far as he went he also saw one pair of tracks leading back. You must understand that in those days a good deal of attention was paid to cultivating an ability to trace a man or an animal through the woods.ö
“Then it was supposed that Elkins murdered the peddler,ö we suggested.
“Yes, some people thought so, and some others didn’t believe there was any peddler. You know how stories get going sometimes and grow as they go. I could take you right to the place where the tracks are said to have stopped, if you wanted to go, and I remember that when I was out ‘coon hunting with a friend of mine one night, both our lights went out there and went out two or three times as we relighted them. Some people used to say the place was haunted, but, of course, I don’t pay any attention to such stuff as that. But the lights went out there, just the same, and why I never could tell. But there is one thing I do know, and that is that there was such a man as Marvel Elkins and that he left here rather unexpectedly and was never heard of again. Where he came from, where he was born, where he went to and why he went there, I don’t know. If you ever go where these old
buildings, that you write about so often, are being torn down and see the rived pine laths that were used in the ceilings, you can just put it down that they are some of old Marvel’s work, and I don’t doubt that there are lots of them in Charleston right now.ö
We can only hope that our readers will be as highly entertained by the old gentleman’s story as we were ourselves, and we will say for their benefit that if they will step around the old building on Virginia street that is now being demolished to make room for Tom Popp’s new block, they will probably have the pleasure of seeing some of the identical laths made by Marvel Elkins 75 years ago.

From the R. L. Poke & Co.'s Huntington, West Virginia Directory 1910, a Frank Elkins7 is
listed with his occupation stated as “finisherö Huntington Handle Co. Given that the Old Marvel mentioned above made his living by “making and selling ax handles and laths,ö it
seems possible that Alfred Elkins6 may have learned enough about woodcutting to pass on
to his own son, Franklin Elkins7 by 1910.
All the information above, taken together, leads us to believe that Marvil Elkins did indeed descend from one Elkins family of southwest Virginia. Rumor and oral tradition have a higher degree of validity than is sometimes conceded. In the meantime, we will continue to search for the facts to support our claims on one Elkins family of southwest Virginia.

The following etymology for the name Marvel complements the puzzling mystery of Marvel Elkins of Lawrence County, Ohio.
• marvel (n.) c.1300, "miracle," also "wonderful story or legend;"
c. 1,419 English: nickname for a person considered prodigious in some way. The nickname was no doubt sometimes given with mocking intent.)
Marvil5 and Nancy Elkins had six children.

Marvil and Nancy raised Loranny before Lucy’s marriage to Alex Forgey.

Hello Everyone!
I am updating the Elkins Genealogy Data website. If you have any questions send me an email at the address listed with this information.
Name: Keith A. Elkins <kelkins@three-rivers.org> Date: 2007-07-16 Did you find this website useful to your research? Very, very! Would you submit your ELKINS genealogy to us? Yes as follows Comments:
My name is keith.
I found this site and was very impressed with the work that was completed. I certainly would like to contribute to the group and elicit some information on my own ancestry.
My Elkins Line is included in this comment section at the end.
Marvil Elkins is listed on RootsWeb lists as a son of Richard III (of Buchanan), yet no one can specify any evidence that he belongs.
My desire is to obtain any definitive statement / evidence / validity / etc. for Marvil as a bona fide Elkins descendant, since nothing can be found about hime before his marriage in Kanawha County 1800 to Nancy Sharp.
I have uncovered many leads but nothing definitive.
My current thought is to find out who the Polly Elkins was in the 1860 Federal Census of Lawrence County, Ohio--and see if she is related to someone in West Virginia. Did Alfred take in a cousin of Marvil's?--This is where I'm at.
Please feel free to correct any errors in the Elkins Tree as I have attached it.
I am currently not prepared to connect Marvil (of Ohio--wife Nancy Sharp) with Richard III (of Elizabeth Buchanan), Richard II (of Mary Gallop), Richard I (of Elizabeth Bryant/Mary Williams), Ralph (of Mary Ashton) and John of England.
Jon Jacobson's recent edited email response follows:
Keith, I went back and re-read what I'd written on Rootsweb. I think you have all my info (and more). The comment about Marvil being like Melchizadek was right on! The fact that, on one Rootsweb entry, Marvil appears as the last child in one of the Richard's families--makes me think he was just "stuck in" by someone desperate to find a connection.
One thing I've learned over the years--when a person's name appears out of nowhere and defies earlier research, it could be because his/her parents died very young, leaving no paper trail. It could be the person was taken in by a neighbor and adopted their family name. Or they may have purposely hidden their background and started a new life. Or...(you make up something.) Hope we find him. I've tried researching the Marvil surname, also, but couldn't discover anything helpful.
In Lucy Elkins case, I believe she had her first child out of wedlock and Loranney (sp) was raised by Lucy's parents. So sometimes I've seen them listed as sisters.
Now, a personal request. I published a historical novel last year about the Virginia captive, William Walker. He was taken up into Ohio by the Delaware tribe first, then adopted into the Wyandot nation. If you know of anyone in that area that might like to purchase copies, they can learn more from my website <TapRootBooks.net> (My addresses and phone number are there.) God bless.

As an Ohio History teacher, I have developed a great appreciation for my roots--born in Washington Court House, Fayette County Ohio (George Washington namesake and the Marquis de LaFayette namesake). Author Henry Howe is a well-known historian on Ohio's counties (by the way).

Generation One
MARVIL ELKINS1
MARVIL OR MARVEL ELKINS1 was born abt. 1755-1780 in Virginia and died 1828, in Lawrence County, Ohio. He married Nancy Sharp in Kanawha, Virginia in 1800. She died October 12, 1866.
The treaty with the Indians following the French & Indian War in 1758 prohibited land acquisition west of the Alleghany Range. However this proclamation was nearly impossible
to enforce and settlers frequently continued moving across the Appalachians. Frequent Indian uprisings would temporarily send these early settlers back across the Mountains to more established areas. This territory remained officially off bounds to white settlement until the treaty with the Indians at Fort Stanwix in 1768 opened up the territory, allowing settlers to formalize their "tomahawk" claims.
If Marvil was born about 1775, he was not old enough for the Revolutionary War.
From the West Virginia GenWeb Project, Marvel Elkins and Nancy Sharp were married in 1800 as it is so recorded by James Johnston.
Marvil (of Nancy Sharp) probably had a brother whose son Marvel was born 1806 in Logan County, Kentucky. This younger Marvel married Rhoda Vance. In the 1850 Federal Census of Logan County West Virginia, Marvel (of Rhoda) was listed with eight children. One of these children was named Marvel Elkins Jr.
Richard Elkins is listed as 80 years old in the same 1850 Census of Logan County, indicating that he was born about 1770. In Henry Clay Ragland’s History of Logan County, W.Va., this same Richard is mentioned as settling in Hewett with his brothers, Zach and William. These three brothers were sons of Richard Elkins III (born 1726, died 1781). These men are believed to be the brother of Marvil Elkins (of Nancy). “Since Marvil (of Nancy) had brothers in Logan County, Virginia, he was probably an uncle of the younger Marvel who married Rhoda Vance there. (Posted by Phyllis Kirk in reply to correction, Marvel Elkins, Ohio by Larry Jacobson).
In 1820 Marvil and Nancy Elkins were at Gallipolis, in Lawrence County, Ohio (Union Township) when his oldest daughter, Lucy, married Alexander Forgey.
In The History of South Point Village, Marvil Elkins is mentioned as a pioneer who hunted in the Ohio River Valley.
In 1830, Nancy Elkins is listed. Nancy was living next door to James Foster, who married Sarah Elkins. Therefore, Marvil probably died between the years 1820-1830.
The West Virginia Division of Culture and History provides a “newspaper clippingö at its website titled: “A Story of Marvel Elkins, a Character of Fifty Years Ago, (n.p.n.d.).ö The article provides support for the migration of Marvil Elkins from West Virginia to Lawrence County, Ohio.
By some chance was thrown in the neighborhood of Old Marvel’s shanty, and as there was no other habitation near, and night was drawing on, he concluded to stay with the old man until morning.
At one time for six and a half years, back in the 1980's, I published the Elkins Eagle. My health prevented me from continuing. At that time I was not into computers and used a Smith Corna word processor. The information was stored on small tapes. That information is not still available to me. I do have copies of the "Elkins Eagel" and will be glad to search those Quarterlies. Clovis Byars Herring

My grandmother, Nora Ellen French Huffman is a sister of Vera Kay French Elkins. Vera was married to Robert Morgan Elkins, s/o Mathias Tice and Celia Katherine (Kate) Jackson Elkins.
I have some questions regarding Andrew Elkins. Can someone give me more information? When he was born and when he died, etc. I can't seem to find him in the Social Security Death Index. I'm assuming Andrew was a middle name?
Is it true that Tice was buried in Monte Vista Cemetery? What about Kate? I can't find any reference to her.
Can someone help me?

Hi! I have only met two other Elkins in my 35 years of life,
just thought I would type it in and see what the search came up with. I did see a movie not so long ago, about a Navy guy that was raised in a foster home. He decided to look up his family and was reunited happily. Denzel Washington was in the movie, I can't remember the name of it. It was a good movie though.
The man named Elkins in the movie was of color(African-
American) while I am not, so I doubt we are related.
My fathers name is Donald Lee Elkins and lives in Indiannapolis,Indianna. I have never talked with him, he left when I was two I am told. I have one sister 37.
we were both born in february my sister 2/08/67, and myself 2/20/69. I really don't know anything about the Elkins side of my family, I live in San Diego have all my life

I don't know unconditionally what name had my grandfather: either Marian or Jerzy. I don't know unconditionally what date of birth he used: 23 April 1898 either 1897 or 23 April 1900. He was born in Miezonka (parish of Berazino) on the eastern government of Minsk (Belarus now) certainly. My grandfather was professional soldier 1918 - 1947 (1941 - MAY 1947 ARMY OF GENERAL ANDERS); 1947 - 1948 EMIGRE IN ARGENTINE; I don't know where he died; he had pseudonym "Stankiewicz". I wish for finding where my grandfather Marian or Jerzy Konstantynowicz has gone from Argentine Republic in 1948. The fact that he lived in LA PLATA in 1947 - 1948 that goes without saying. Did he go for BOLIVIA or MEXICO in 1948 or then? I don't think so! He had relatives in CANADA, the Manitoba province (Winnipeg) and the Saskatchewan (Buchanan) province. Mother: Susan (withheld for security) b.1946 d. 1999 Seymour, Indiana

GGFather: Edward Alan Elkins b.1877 d.1955 - Indiana
GGMother: Blanche Lorene Noblitt b.1889 d.1954 - Indiana
GGGFather: Charles Elkins b.? d.1908? - Indiana?
GGGMother: Cecilia (Selah? Celia?) Cooley b.? d.?
I am told that my ancestors before Charles Elkins were England by way of North Carolina, but I am not sure how recently or how far back. I know that there are several "Elkins" in North Carolina, Virgina, and also in Tennessee.
If this helps, please let me know. I would love to her more about the migration of Elkins from NC to IN. Maybe there would even be some overlaping heritage.

gfather Albert married Clara Bender in Ontario Co, NY [Lyons?] abt 1909, he was 24 and she was 18.
father Kenneth Elkins b 5-4-1910 d 5--1993
I cannot find Elkins' in the upstate NY area, and none that would come close to Albert. I have a photo of he and Clara on their wedding day, she in a dress made by Rose Bender. I have a photo of HIS father, [my ggfather] _______Elkins [should be] and his wife, possibly a Shumpf or Stumpf. No-one in the family knows anything about Albert, let alone his parents. Albert left Geneva, NY [and my grandmother] about 1936-37. He was possibly a chef. He was also a fighter and drinker. My mother called him [Albert], "Pat" as that was the name he told her. If anyone could shed any light on this mystery, my thanks are already there. I do not know where my father was born, but it was in NY state. My aunt Louise was born 1915 in Geneva NY and passed this year. Her children know nothing of the NY Elkins'.

My Elkins roots start in Bardwell Ky., and end in Phoenix Az.
I am looking for information on Joel Elkins. His son my g-grandfather was Joseph Daniel Elkins, his
daughter, my grandmother, was Pocohantus Omega Elkins.(Catchy name huh???)
I am beginning to believe I am the only one looking for these people.

My ELKINS is a name change from Von ELKINHANDS. My g,g,grandfather was Frederick Von Elkinhands from Prussia. They settled in NYC and changed their name. I have found various spellings of Elkinhands in the Census.
I would love to correspond with anyone searching this line.
