I have been on this site off and on for a while now and it keeps getting better and better. Thanks and a big hug to all who have contributed to this site. It is a pleasure to have the name Trotter as a part of my heritage. From Judges, Lawyers, Drs., Engineers, Bridge Builders, Carpenters, Federal Marshals, National Guard members, Soldiers, Teachers, Quakers, Ministers of the Gospel and just plain folks. My Trotters lived in Habersham County Georgia. All were a part of building that County and helping the area to grow and become the best part of the state.

I am looking for information on my Trotter line. The earliest Trotter I've found is Samuel Augustus Trotter b. 1815 in North Carolina. He migrated to Missouri and had a son, Samuel Augustus Trotter, b. 1852. I believe the first Samuel had an older brother named Ephraim. Ephraim and Samuel lived close to each other in Richwoods, Missouri in 1850. Ephraim was born 1813 in North Carolina.

You have done a great job on your web site. It is so organized.

My 5th great grandfather was Richard Trotter (b. around 1738-1742) who died in the Battle of Point Pleasant. He came to America abt.1761 from England, married the famous Anne Hennis Trotter Bailey (Mad Anne Bailey) in 1765. They had one son William Trotter b.1767 in Virginia and
married Mary Ann (Polly) Cooper. Anne Hennis also came from England around 1761, she was b. 1742. Mary Cooper was reported to be the daughter of Capt. Leonard Cooper and he was also in the Battle of Point Pleasant.

William and Mary Ann (Cooper) Trotter had several children:

Philip
Elizabeth
John
William Jr.
Mary
Davis
Sarah
Phoebe
Jane Ann
Nancy

all of the children but the last three were born in Virginia, the last
three were born in Ohio.

They can be found on the LDS site. Plus Richard Trotter can be found in the roster on this site. http://www.rootsweb.com/~wvmason/roster.html
He is listed as wounded but he really died. You can read about Richard and Anne in the book "Life and Times of Ann Bailey" by Virgil A. Lewis.

You can also Visit Jean's web page which is very interesting:

Thanks so much, Lana

My great grandmother's maiden name was Julia Ann Trotter. She died April 17, 1902 in Johnson County, IN and is buried in the old Lowe Cemetary in White River Twp., Johnson Co., IN. She was married to Edward Wright Utterback and had two young daughters when she died. Her Father was Levi Milton Trotter, who is buried in an unmarked grave next to Julia. Her Mother's name was Elizabeth Weinland. I'm not sure if I'm in the right Trotter family. I've not been able to learn anything about him or his ancestry. If you can help, please email me.....Robin

Hello, I am a descendant of William St Clair Trotter, son of Young Trotter, descendant of Thomas Trotter of Ballindean, merchant and Burgess of Edinburgh etc. I am in Australia and have seen page 2 of Trotter of Ballindean in your Clearing House in the past and since have been unable to access page 2 of this line, which shows Thomas Trotter m. Mary Torryburn daughter of James Lorimer Torryburn, my line. On screen it shows page one, but nothing to click onto for page 2 which shows Mary Torryburn/Thomas Trotter. I am not computer literate and hope you can help me to access this information so I can print it out. The copy I have, chopped off most of this info and I desperately need to have a copy, hope you can help. William St Clair Trotter m. Catherine Ann Evans and their daughter Jane Cranstoun is my ggrandmother. Her brother Joseph Cranstoun Trotter was heir to the line and I have much info on him. Jane Cranstoun Trotter m. Samuel Page and they lived in Nottingham, Samuel have a business there.

Maggie, I have thoroughly enjoyed your book. I do hope you'll be able to develop more on the other children of James Sr. in the near future, as I have FINALLY received some evidence that my gr-grandfather James Thomas Trotter was indeed the son of William B. Trotter (the son of James Trotter, son of William, son of James Sr.) Now I am trying to find a connection between several Trotter families that were in Fayette Co., TN starting about 1820. In particularly, Isham Trotter father of Benjamin Yates Trotter. This Isham married Sally Peyton Old in Williamson County, Tenn. about 1806, prior to moving to Fayette Co. Do you have anything on that line?
Keep up the good work!

Dear Margaret,

Thanks ever so much for this most informative web site. It has led me to the solution of a puzzle with respect to the true identity of my GG grandmother, Elizabeth Trotter Lesley, through the papers of the legal action to settle her grandfather's (James Trotter) will. Both the Family Search web site and the Old Pendleton data base got it wrong with two different candidates for her parentage. Your site gave me access to the real data that was needed to solve the problem.

Nevertheless, I would like to point out a couple of items that you might want to correct on the site:

First, the five pages of the "contestation" really only are four as page 3 is repeated as page 4.

Second, the date of the contestation really was 12 November 1877, not 29 March 1852 when the will was first probated after James' death.

By the way, I have a copy of a family photo of Elizabeth and Wash Lesley taken in 1901 if you would like to have a copy as well.

Hope that you can keep on adding to this site.

Looking for "Doc" Trotter who married after 1860 to my great aunt, Mary F. Wilburn. Mary was born 1840 in Carroll Co. AR, daughter of James Johnson Wilburn and Mary E. Beller. "Doc" and Mary were said to have had three children. Can't locate them on any Census records.
In 1874 Mary F. married N. B. King in Grayson Co. TX, so we assume that "Doc" was deceased or they could have been divorced. Does anyone have a "Doc" Trotter in their family tree? We don't have any other first name for him. My grandfather, Wm Warren Wilburn married Elizabeth Trotter Speer, a widow, who had a son named Charles Speer. They had five children: Mary Ellie 1870, James Charles 1871, Maude, Harrison Twitt 1874, Sardas Morell 1876.

Viewed your data regarding Trotters of Quitman,MS with interest.
Have a couple of questions I hope you or someone can answer:
1) Have you validated the service of Alexander Trotter in the Mexican War 1846-1848. If he died in Feb. 1847, am wondering if he died while in the service of his country.
2) The Trotter Cemetery in Toxey, Alabama seems to have "disappeared". It was not recorded in Tindle's book on Choctaw Co., Alabama cemeteries and is not recorded on the Choctaw Co., Alabama website. Does anyone know exactly where in Toxey, Choctaw Co., Alabama this cemetery was located? Also, was Alexander Trotter actually buried there, or did he die while in service and this was just a memorial?

I realize the materials you cited were from 1947-1948 period, but I hope someone in the Trotter family can assist.

Thanks for any assistance.

Hi. I've been trying to trace my Trotter ancestors. My great-great-great grandfather was James Trotter of Edinburgh, Scotland. His wife may have been Agnes Whitehead-I'm uncertain about that. He had at least one son, Robert, who emigrated and eventually ended up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He also had at least two daughters, Sarah, who emigrated to Canada and remained in Petersboro, Ontario and Jane (my great-great grandmother), born 1843, who emigrated to Canada, married an Irish emigrant named Frank Bavis and had a daughter named Margaret Jane. Margaret Jane grew up and married a French (and possibly Irish)Canadian named David James Dennie (Denny). The Bavis and Dennie families emigrated to Palmyra, NY and there they stayed. I'm looking to find any information I can to trace back to James Trotter and if at all possible, beyond. Thank you for any help you can give.
Sincerely,
Pam Hughes
