Both had wrecks. Would they possibly been J and J Cook ships that had passenger lists? Thanks for and answer.

Once here, I am very interested in any information regarding the family, befores and afters, and information regarding Capt William Cunningham whose ancestor Daniel came from Scotland; clarification of the his wife Jane Smith's and his mother Mary/Mercy(?) Smith's pedigree, siblings, etc which both, I currently believe, trace to Archelaus Smith and Cape Cod, Massachusetts.
Otherwise, the site has a lot of information to sift through - a resource for nonCanadians unfamiliar with Nova Scotia. A map with the current counties would prove helpful to this researcher. Excellent pictures. A great place to lose one's self for an afternoon or more.
Congratulations!

I really like you idea of this clips and snips. I did not find anything I was looking for here but I think it is a great idea anyway. I was looking for a John Flynn that was born in Newfoundland and moved to Cape Bretton sometime before the birth of his first born child. He married Winnifred Doyle. She was also born in Newfoundland. I am not sure if they got married in Newfoundland or Cape Bretton, but I am sure that their daughter Helen Flynn was born in Nova Scotia on June 24th 1913. She married Harvey (Valade) DeLaval. They had 2 sons. Helen died April 27th 1942 leaving both her young sons behind. In 1942 they lived with their mothers parents at 175 prince street Sydney, Nova Scotia. I dont know what happened to their father,(Harvey). Rumor has it he was in a German war camp and was released years later. I have found it really hard searching this family, do you have any idea's. Is there any volunteer genealogist's in Cape Bretton that I could get help from.
Thanks in Advance.

I am very interested in finding a list of names of the members of Chasseurs Brittaniques/Canadian Chasseurs, French soldiers during Napoleon's time who were captured by the British and served under them during the War of 1812 against the US, and were subsequently discharged in Halifax in 1813 (in disgrace, unfortunately!)
Could you please tell me the name of a newspaper in Halifax in 1813 which might have printed this list? I note your index starts in 1817 and assume that it goes no further back than that date.
Thank you for any help you may be able to give me.
Terry

Hi. I'm new to genealogy and recently found out that there are ancestors from NS in my background. I never knew my grandparents and even my parents never gave me any information so I am starting from scratch. Names of interest are Abner Woodworth, M. to Susan Selfridge with at least one son by the name of Laurie or Lawrence Clifford Woodwoth born Nova Scotia abt.1878. Am looking for any Woodworths that can be connected. These names were take from the marriage license. Lawrence would be my grandfather on my mothers side. I realize you probably are getting more info than you need from me but am so grateful for any snippet of information. I'm 64 years old and would really like to know before I die where I came from. The work you are doing is very much appreciated. I did Gleen a Woodworth from your listing and maybe I'll find more. Thanks soo much.

Hello,
Thank you! Thank you!
I am finally getting around to researching another one of my ancestral lines and in typing in Nicholas Wright, I came up with your site. You have extracted from the Acadian Recorder the estate notice for Charles Wright, the administrators being Henry Wright, Nicholas Wright and Enoch Wiswell. I am assuming at this point that Henry and Nicholas are Charles' sons. That at least gives me a clue in order to confirm (or not) that this is true and to put me back another generation. Thank you for that.
In going to the library today and consulting "Births, Burials and probate of Nova Scotians 1800-1850", I found Charles death for November 28, 1815 in Halifax. I see that the notice was published in the Recorder on Jan 4, March 1 and May 3, 1817. I believe this had to be done as part of due process, is that correct? In addition to what you have typed in each of these three places (ie the estate, administrators and original date published,) could you tell me if there was anything else in the notice?
Again thank you. Keep up the good work.
Rob Milson

I went to the St.Famille grave site yesterday to see the newly erected plaque in memory of those buried there, and noticed that the date stated for that cemetary is 1722-1755 and that there are well over 300 dead there. This does not make sense to me how so many could be there in such a short time.I was under the belief that the acadians were in that area as early as 1600 and there is documentation of this. This peticular land site was owned by a Mr.kochanoff how sold it for building lots. This is another thing that troubles me greatly. In fact one home owner while starting their construction actually dug up bones...It was well known in Falmouth that this land was a cematary...I hope to see more Acadian information on the web and acurate information along with it.Building on burial grounds must not take place.Thank you for your wonderful site.
