This sight is a GREAT place to visit! Thank you!
Who doesn't have unlinked Smith family? I was hoping to find a father for Ezekiel as he said on his NY state census he was born Schoharie County.
Ezekiel Smith was born on 10 Nov 1808 in , , Schoharie, NY. He died on 11 Nov 1872 in Chicago, Cook, IL. He was buried in 1872 in Rosehill Cemetery, Chicago, Cook, IL.
Ezekiel removed from Schoharie Co, NY to Otsego, Roseboom/Cherry Valley 1825.
1855 state census lists Ezekiel as landowner and voter.
Cherry Valley, Otsego, NY-
Census 1830-40-50 & 60(Cherry Valley/Roseboom)
Census 1879 Chicago, Cook, IL ED# , Page# 111
Ezekiel married Altana Adsit and they had 12 known children of which I have complete listing.
Always glad to share!

I'm a descendent of Edward Degan's eldest brother, James. I too am into the family history - I'm mainly tracing the Degan/Deegan family.
My father started it and corresponded with Mary Craven's relatives.
I've even got a picture of the family on the front steps of their home.
Are you working on the Degan side at all?
Love to hear from you.

I'm originally from Racine, WI ... my grandfather was from Sheboygan, WI. I've been researching the Steimle line now for several years. I visited the area in Germany where the Steimle's are from and was thrilled to get a look at the original church books where info was documented. Anyone doing Steimle research is welcome to email me.
P.S. I know I'm somehow related to the Draeger's who owned the funeral home in Racine.

Your site is very nicely organized. It is a pleasure to go through. I am researching Conover / Covenhoven and related spellings of this Dutch surname . The family line I am interested in is in the Mohawk Valley / Cherry Valley of New York and Middlesex ( Cranbury ) and Monmouth areas of New Jersey. They possibly carry the first names of Ralph/ Rolf , William, Albert/ Alfred , Garret, Dennis,Harmon, Daniel and Samuel. The gals may be Elizabeth, Nettie, Nellie and Ann. Twins run in the line and the men are brick masons and importes of tea nad cigars. Allied families, Warth, Becker, Snedeker, Keer.

All of my information is from old birthday and address books from my husband's mother. Your web site is tremendous. If you are interested I do have some birth, marriage and death dates as well as cities.

Mabelle English had one daughter Virginia Marjorie Lee (my husband's mother) and an adopted daughter Annabelle Lee. I would be interested in hearing from you. As I said I am very new at this and am not sure what to do next.

For some reason I thought great grandma was born in Ireland. I was surprized she was born in America. I have some Craven's trunk that came from Ireland. I have an old Catholic prayer book from late 1800 with a woman's picture. There is no name in the book or on the picture. Will try to scan it too. My bother gave me a picture of Great Great Grandpa Gottfredsen and his second wife will try to find and scan it too.

I don't know anything about your direct relatives, but I do know about general Cross family history including the history of the derivation of the name "Cross". Breifly, it comes from the fact that our ancestors lived on the cross-roads. It is believed that all Crosses decend from a common ancestor, who brought his family to England following William the Conquorer. The name was originally derived from "de la Croix", which is French for "of the Cross". There's much more to this than what I've written here, like a geneological tree of the most ancient ancestors and the like.

It is obvious we have several common connections.
I also have a website on the Rootsweb. If you are
interested in looking at it, just do a search for
Webster Rich (my father's name). Since there are
several William Rich's and only one Webster Rich,
this will speed up finding my site.

I am looking for info on my grandfather Stephen Victor CROSS
born in England in 1888. His mother was Ada Ellen CARD of England. His father was Stephen CROSS born in England in 1856. His father was William CROSS.

We know that there was Vernon and Stanley CROSS. We do not know if they were Stephen Victor's brothers or cousins.

There was also a Beatrice, may be his sister. And the CHAPMAN family is connected also.

My Draegers also came from Germany - Charles William August Draeger (went by August in 1910 census)b. May 14, 1862 in Germany, emigrated in 1878 and married Charlotte Lassen in about 1888. Their children were Elizabeth, Charlotte, Charles, Edward, Helen (my grandmother), Olga and Esther. They lived in Chicago. All I know of my ggrandfather was that he worked as a miner in Germany and was in the Army. Am still researching and anxious to find out more.

Our knowledge of our Smiths begins in Binghamton, NY. I am trying to learn of the parents of Sarah Smith, b. ca. 1809.
Not much to go on plus such a common name! I am excited just to find another Smith researcher doing New York research! How is that for desperation! Thanks.

This is very nice, Kathy, and I share your frustration in tracing the Smith lines. My gg grandfather was Nathaniel Smith, Capt., in the War of 1812. He was from Hancock, Berkshire County, Massachusetts. I have been unable to find his parents.

He married my gg grandmother Mary Bentley, daughter of Capt. Caleb Bentley, Capt. in the Revolutionary War, from New Berlin, New York.

We will keep searching and we WILL find our roots. Good Luck!!!
