You have done a great service by researching, assembling and publishing this family genealogy. My family through the Bell and Metsker (Metzger)lines basically moved at the same time and to some of the same places (from Alsace to Hagerstown/Leitersburg MD,then to Hagerstown Wayne Indiana).

Hi! I am the daughter of Grant Herman Replogle and Carrie Esther Leistner. I was born 18 Feb 1930 Hemet, Ca.
You and I were in contact briefly during the late 1990s -- then I had a serious car accident/brain injury that affected my ability to write. I was unable to pursue either my writing career or my interest in the family genealogy until the past year or so. I am sorry you retired but appreciate your sharing all the family data and history you collected!!!
My sister, Marjorie Carrie Replogle Roberts, b. 13 Mar 1924 Redondo Beach, CA, d 26 Sep 1990 Hemet, CA. She married Milton J Roberts of Jamestown, NY on 1 Jan 1944 Hemet, CA.
Milt was the son of Leon & Harriet Roberts of Jamestown, NY [Leon was a newspaperman and former mayor in Jamestown]. Milt died 26 Sep 1990 Hemet, CA. Milt and Marj had three children, all living, Susan Roberts, b 16 Dec. 1946; Kenneth Roberts, b 23 Aug 1948, and Gayle Lynn Roberts Doddridge, b 5 May 1951. Mom, Dad, Milton & Marjorie are all buried in San Jacinto Valley Cemetery, along George Negley Replogle and Amy Adelle Otis Replogle. As are Ferel Sr., Elmer, Ruby, Adelle. I will send my personal info later. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL THE HOURS, DAYS, WEEKS, MONTHS, YEARS AND DECADES YOU HAVE DEVOTED TO THIS! I really, really appreciate the treasury of information you have provided!!! - Pauline Replogle Wessa

I am a descendant of Duane Newton, Clara Mae Newton's( wife of Charles Replogle) brother. Clara Mae was a descendant of Edward Doty, signer of the Mayflower Compact and a Plymouth, Massachusetts original settler, and of Samuel Doty a Revolutionary War veteran, a cousin of James Otis and Mercy Otis Warren. Her father, James Harvey Newton, went to California during the goldrush in 1859 and kept a diary which was in her possession as late as 1920. Is it
among the documents in your library?

Hello,
I am interested to learn more about the origin and meaning of "Reblogel". I tried following the link on your webpage where it says a few people have written to you about what the surname means, but the link seemed to be broken. If you could drop me an email I would be grateful. Thankyou, Stacey.

A Balser B.Replogle bought 700 acres of land in Rockbridge Co., Lexinton, Va in 1800. The house had 12 rooms and 10 fireplaces in it. Also a slave house and a ash house. Thanks for tracing your family roots and sharing with others. I just found out that my Grandmother's family goes back to the 1572's. Her madien name was Replogle (her father's side of the family) and found out that was traced back to Matern Reblogel, from France. I thought at first the name was a German name. Now I have to find out what her mother's madien name was. Her grandmother came from Germany.
Have you been able to go back farther than Matern's past?
thanks for letting me share this!

Hi, Paul,

It is sad to hear that you have retired from this project, though understandable. I thought you might be interested to hear that your database helped me learn that a new friend is a sixth cousin once removed - when she mentioned having a Replogle great grandmother, I immediately guessed there must be a connection, and we found it in your database in short order. What fun!

Best wishes,

Lynn

I’ve been told the name Mattern is a Alsacian-Swiss name.

I have skimmed, read in depth certain parts of your materials. My famil is Salathe/Sallade/Solliday and I keep searching for tghenm in Huspach, Alsace-Lorraine, Province, France. Learning the history and name changes is quiet a stumbling block in doing research. The verbal history is the family was French Huguenots that fled France. However another written document says they came from Geneva. Would you have any suggestions, knowledgeable individuals to contact to pursue documentation to the family in this region. Thanks much, Mary

Can you tell me which Replogle owned this store?

My, you do work fast! Saw the reference to my July 5th post <grin>. Am now working my way through your site, looking for Schreier or Shroyer references.

In your Summer 1994 newsletter, you have a reference to Johann Georg Bager (or Baugher). As luck would have it, I think I know who he is; he ties in with my wife's Swingle family, from Saarland. Johannes Georgius BAGER was b. 29 Mar 1725 in Niederlinxweiler. [Weiser's "Records of St. Matthew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hanover, Pennsylvania, 1741-1831"] He arrived in Philadelphia on 23 Oct. 1752 aboard the "Rawley" and went almost directly to the Conewago settlement to be pastor of St. Matthew's. [Werner Habicht's "Niederlinxweiler: Die Familien, 1537-1973," which I found in a library in Berlin] Here is the exact quote: “[Verheiratete] mit einer Leyendeckerstochter aus Giessen, wo er Theologie studierte, luth. vikar in Simmern, kam auf dem Schiff Rawley in Philadelphia an und legte am 23.10.1752. Treueid auf die USA ab, Pfarrer in Hannover, York Co., PA. In Pennsylv. Baugher und Badger geschreiben.ö He was at Conewago from 1752-63, and again from 1767-85. He died in 1791.

I am the daughter of Chester R. Ott, son of Rolland L. Ott, son of Jacob W. Ott, son of Henry Ott and Lavina Replogle. I have been working on the Ott family tree along with my other three grandparents families for almost three years. I have only recently started on my Ott roots. I have found much helpful information in your Replogle Genealogy. I also have found a small item I do not understand and wish you to inform me. In the John Jacob and Anna Fisser connection, what does the (N) mean after her name? Also, where does the name Fisser come from. I have found other genealogy on what seems to be this same family group and the names are Johann Jacob Ott and Anna Maria Alter, from the same area, Creagerstown, Frederick Co., MD. Please help!

Emma's book Indian Eve and her descendants was the one thing that gave me an inititive to do more research when it was stated that she thought she was a Dibert.

I think that I know more information about your ancestor (and mine) Niels Henry Henningsen. See if you think my information matches up with yours.

In 1873, the Henningsen family emigrated from Maribo, Denmark. They were Johan and his wife, Anna Sine (Christensen) and their sons, Peter Christian, Niels Henning, Martin Ryberg (later changed to Robert) and Alfred George (he later switched them). Alfred George is my ggrandfather.

According to the LDS, Niels was born October 2, 1842 in Hillested, Maribo, Denmark.

According to the 1880 census, Johan and Anna are living in Chicago.

Do you think its possible that the Niels Henning Henningsen I have found is the same person as the Niels Henry Henningsen listed in your family information?

Kathy

Very interesting reading! I am the granddaughter of Ada Bell Replogle. Noticed incorrect information in index. Her spouse's given name was not John Neal, but actually J.N. Such a wonderful site. I am looking for Jacob REPLOGLE whose land was in Lexington, S.C. He married the widow of Jacob Lang/Long. About 1803 the three sons of Judith Long Replogle, along with George Riser began to sell all their land in Newberry (SC) and moved into Edgefield Cty, SC. This Judith was originally a Burkmeyer (sp many ways), daughter of Margaret and Daniel Burkeyer. When he died Margaret married Jacob Riser and her dau Judith used the name of Riser. Any help would be appreciated. I am wondering if the 3 sons mentioned above were by Replogle.

None of my known Reprogle family appears in your list, except Josephine Reprogle, who may be my mother. I can't tell from the listing.

If you want more information, I can provide some, but my father, Richard Dean Reprogle, may be the best source. I think he has your Geneology book. My family originates in the Nappanee, IN, area, but my siblings and I live between there and Indianapolis.

I would be interested in finding where we link in going back to Matern if possible.

My city Canoga Park has been split and I now live in West Hills, Calif. Yes I was born Dec 8, 1935 in Jackson,Tenn. My father was Phillip Neal Replogle. My little sister Mary Angell Replogle died April 10, 1999. She was a little down syndrom lady. Lucky to live as long as she did without any health problems. We have been told that they don't live to be very old. She lived with us all of her life. I'm sure you have the rest of my family listed for my sister sent in papers to you 1992 or 93. My dads sisters and brothers are all gone now. Don't know if you want all the death notices. I just emailed you about his sister Hattie Lee Mitchell death. Thanks, Charlotte Replogle

Hi Paul, Time gets away from me and haven't been able to email for awhile. Reporting to you about Hettie Lee Mitchell, maiden name Replogle died December 29, 2001. She was born May 27, 1908 in Jackson, Tenn, but lived in Memphis, Tenn. The death notice gave the wrong age in the Memphis Commerical Appeal newspaper. She was the daughter of Phillip Marion Replogle Jr. and the sister to Phillip Neal Replogle.

Ran across your web site while looking for a maternal ancestor. Are you the one who did an earlier version of the Rhinehart line back in the 1960's? I think my grandparents were on your mailing list. In any event, my great-grandfather was Ulysses, grandfather was Frederick and father (who is still alive) is Ralph.

Last year I went back to Alsace and visited the small town where Rhinehard apparently lived. Seems odd though, the town is French and has a French name. Perhaps he lived in a small village nearby and the larger town was listed as his home since that's where the records were kept.

Thanks again.

I was thrilled to find this wonderful website. I have recently begun researching my mother's ancestry which is Glover (father) and Everson (mother) from West Virginia. My gggmother was Elizabeth Replogle. My mother's father was Leroy Glover (not Lee as shown in 1900 census), his father Asa P. Glover, his father Alexander, whose wife Elizabeth Hostetter's mother was Elizabeth Replogle. I have not yet been able to find anything beyond Alexander Glover borni 1801 in Virginia. Any further info would be much appreciated.

I had to do this in between surgeries on my arms and recovering, etc., so I don't have much work done for the time frame. Once I get his data, I'll finish it up and then send you my updated GEDCOM, which as of now has 2,370 individuals. My new e-mail address is: mjwpc1@home.com . Please change this on your records, too. Replogle and his wife, Martha Ann Boswell of District No. one, Medina, Gibson, Tennessee and their children for Temple Ordinances in the Oakland, California Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I inherited the trunk of their daughter Mattie Frances Replogle ( my great grandmother ) and have his wallet, loyalty oath signed to the Union AND the Confederacy, tax receipts, tintypes of all the family members, etc., etc. I wish to share duplicates of these documents with whomever submitted that information. At one time there were addresses for whomever submitted this information but no longer for the more recent submissions. There are also census mistakes with a "foundling" who lived with the family being listed as a child plus other direct information I wish to clarify. I have photographs of the cemetery markers, etc. and would love to find you! I also have an original ledger/journal belonging to his wife, Martha Ann Boswell that belonged to her father, Edward Tennessee Boswell.

Dear Paul, My ggrandmother was Mattie Frances Replogle, daughter of Daniel B (owman ) Replogle. Clarence Watkins and I stay in close touch working on our Replogles here in Gibson and Madison County, Tennessee. I have an excellent photograph in my archives of Lizzie Irwin, sister of Frederick Replogle buried at Bethlehem Cemetery, Henderson and Madison County lines, Tennessee near the Claybrook area. In my "spare" time will get a copy to you. Have tried in vain to contact her descendants in Mississippi hoping to give the original to a direct descendant but haven't produced any results. Thank you forever for all your work.
Our Replogle branch is a double cousin line as my ggrandmother Mattie Frances Replogle married Perce Mills, and Perce Mills sister Ellen Mills married William Daniel Replogle, brother of Mattie Frances. Then my paternal grandfather's sisters married Replogles, one married John Wesley Replogle and the other Philip Marion Replogle. I have photograph archives of all these individuals but am homeschooling, gardening, church work, etc. and then trying to work on family history full time too. In time...maybe this winter, I'll get you copies. God Bless America. Keep praying for us all. Your cousin, Patricia Parrish Lewis

You said to let you know if the CD is wanted. Please let me know how to receive and cost. I want one. My address is 5043 Stillbrooke Dr. Houston, Texas 77035. I have working on Replogle for the last few weeks exclusively like you have been doing for 30 plus years. Yes I can see the confusion with Philip. What is the connection to the family that owns Replogle Globe Company? My wife's mother is a Crownover, which originally was Kovenhoven - another old Germanic name - this one from Holland. She ran across a Kovenhoven and a Replogle in the same cementery in up state NYbut can't find her notes on it now.We will keep looking. Cuz Bill

Do you have any medical or heredity traits noted or documented for the Reprogle line? If you have some, email me and I'll tell you exactly what it is that I'm looking for. It's nothing scary, just unique. Just maybe one of the issues comes from her line, or could be the paternal line. We'll see, Thank you, Rebecca

Also, I would appreciate if you would double check your information about my father and who his biological mother was, none of our family were aware of this infomation until reading about it on your web page, including my father. If he should happen to stumble across this information, it could devestate him, and if it proves to be untrue, it could be twice as damaging, as opposed to it being true!!
Thank You So Much,

I just found your info on Jacob GOSSER and Maria Margaret Spangler. They are my direct ancestors. However you have the wrong Jacob Gosser married to Maria Margaretta Spangler. The Jacob who was her spouse was from Heidelberg twp and not Bethel twp. I have documentation to back this. There were at least 3 different Jacob GOSSER/GASSERT's in the same area and several of them attended the same church. When I first started looking for Jacob, I made the same error you have. If you like I can snail mail copies of my documentation. It won't happen for a while though, I'm in the midst of making wedding dresses for our daughter's wedding for next week and the following week I'm having knee surgery. I'm hoping to catch up on the genealogy while I'm recuperating and get my gedcom uploaded.

While not a direct line descendant of any Replogle, I do have intermarriages with some, including John Alvin to Ella Adkins (2nd cousin, twice removed [2c-2r]), Elmer Sylvester to Emma Dela Corbin (2c-2r), Leona Alice to Charles Gowen Adkins (2c-2r), and Willis Erwin to Ruth Beatrice Handwerk (4c). I obtained your webpage URL from our mutual cousin, Dr Erik Conard, and you should be hearing from another "new" researcher by the name of James Steven & Ellen Lucille (Gwin) Unger, following their return home to TX from the Replogle/Gwin Reunion just held here in Coles County, IL last Sunday. They have tentatively located a source for a printed copy of the ($53.00) book. I may seek information from your page on occasion, but do not need a complete copy.
Your work appears to have been researched, compiled, and presented in such a manner that all seekers (and finders) of it should be greatly rewarded. My greatest compliments are extended to you for all of your past and continuing efforts to learn about and share your knowledge of the Replogle family!

Well, Paul, over thirty years you have put lovingly in this
work and I am just beginning to read it. The Replogles of
Coles Co., IL, my kin, are a group dear to me, and while I
am not a Rep descendant, I felt as close as one could without being.
It was my pleasure to be of help in gathering some family information 'way back then, for you. You have left no stone
unturned and have "left tracks." i.e. you will forever be
remembered for the thorough and wonderful work you've done.
With admiration and regards, Erik P Conard, PhD--Denver

I like your web page! Found it by accident actually. I think that I have viewed one of your Replogle books at the library in Xenia, Greene Co., OH. I was there a couple of years ago conducting research on my Reid family from Montgomery Co., OH. Not much luck on that trip. Lots of Reids /Reeds but I couldn't pin down any of mine.
I did, however, find the marriage record for my GGG Grandfather Henry Reid to Sarah Ann Replogle in Feb of 1854 in Montg. Co., OH.
I see that they are listed in your Unknown chapter of your website and I think I remember finding them in the same Unknown chapter of the book in Xenia.
For your files, Sarah Ann Replogle was born May 12, 1832 in Dayton, Montg. Co., OH married Henry Reid (1826/NJ - 1899/IA) on Feb 28, 1854 in Montg. Co., OH. She died on Mar 16, 1886 in Page Co., Iowa. Census records indicate that both of her parents (names unknown) were born in Penn.
I have a photo of her and Henry Reid, and additional Reid info on my home page, http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/m/u/s/Carl-T-Musselman

I hope to find a connection to your Replogles, someday.

Hello ! I heard from you through the article of my friend jean-claude Streicher. Just to illustrate your internet site, I published a book (in french) relating the fantastic adventure of my ancestors, August and Mary de Bode, last "seigneurs" of Soultz just before the french revolution. See

My father was Lee Jennings Replogle. His half sister, Maysel Replogle Estes, contributed to the Replogle Genealogy book I have. I am interested in continuing the entering of offsprings since this book was published. I would be glad to furnish additions to my family since the last update.

Paul,

Thanks so much for all the work on our family history. Having just attended the Daniel McCager Replogle m. Mattie Parker Replogle Sparks this reading is just too fun. I have a picture of myself at 1 year old, Mom-Lola Audene Clark Holland, Grandma Blanche Estelle Replogle Clark, and Great Grandma Mattie P. Replogle Sparks at the reunion in 1954 that you have an article about. We must find a way to scan it and send it to you. I am married to a member of Congress, Todd Tiahrt KS-4, a good solid Republican and was thrilled to see that the globe maker was a Nixon appointee and an ambassador to Iceland! Too fun! Vicki

I thought you might want to update your information. My sisters and brother have always been very proud to be Replogles and were very proud to be his children.

Paul, I continue to peruse your website and data base. It's wonderful to have such a resource with lots of good links. I've found some common descendents from Samuel Replogle -- I plan to contact them for more info.
I also found another data base that takes our Harper family line back another generation. Thanks again for all your work. Ginger.

I think this is great........we had no idea who Jenetta Replogle,as she was the first wife of Joseph Harper, and remarried and came to Wyoming....we have had no info concerning her. Our family is from the first wife, not the second wife. This helps our family history so much.
Thank you
will try and get info to you.
