My Great Grandparents were John D. Levangie and Helen G. Levangie from Canada. They emigrated to Winthrop Mass. Helen is sometimes listed as Ella on come of the census. Helen or Ella, I belive was a Delorey. In the 1900 Census they have a boarder listed as Joseph Delorey. I believe that was her brother. She was born in November of of 1864 and came to the US around 1882. I am having a tough time finding where they were from in Canada. From all the info I see on the web I assume they come from Nova Scotia.

I believe my husband is a relative of Placide Delorey. His grandmother Emma Delorey (b. 1898 in Tracadie) came to the Boston area and married Benjamin Norton. They had 3 children: Bernard (b. 1929), Marie, and John Frances (Franny to the family). Bernie is my husband's father. Bernie spent summers in Tracadie and remembers going out on the lobster boat.
When my husband and his siblings were young they visited too. There's a family story about someone (an Aunt Bertha?) who kept a bobcat chained to a dog house to keep her henhouse safe.
Does this sound familiar to anyone?
I'm hoping to bring our children to the reunion to meet their cousins. It would be so cool.

What a treasure chest of information. I live in Parksville, British Columbia. My grandfather, Nicolas Delorey was from the Tracadie area. From information gleaned from your webside, I note that my father, Michael, visited the Boston area in 1923, presumably looking for work. Nicolas moved to Minto, New Brunswick in his early twenties and our family grew up there. Nicolas was killed in France in the first world was, age 37. I hope to someday gather all the information I have on my Delorey ancestry and send it to you one way or the other. Although its about 4000 miles to Tracadie from Parksville, my wife and I are thinking seriously of making the journey. We will decide something this winter and let you know. You're a wonderful person to be doing this and I can see by the various comments that you've put joy into a lot of people's lives. Thank you and merci beaucoup.

We are looking for our great, great grandfather. His son Moses Delaria, was born in 1831 in Canada (we think). He married Lorena Langer. We are searching for his father and mother. My great grandfather could not read or write. When he worked for the railroad, they spelled his name Delaria. It wasn't until my fathers sister went to the French school in NE Minneapolis, MN. that the nuns taught them to spell it the correct way which was Des Lauriers.
My great grandfather was married in NY state abt 1852.
He was born in 1821. They moved to Negaunee, MI. From then on we can trace our ancestors. If you could give us any information about Moses Deloria that lived in Big Tracadie, I would appreciate it. Thanks. Virginia Nolan

I never thought of searching for my family tree until I saw this site. I am a descendant of Thomas Jacquet dit Desloriers also. I come by way of Martial, Jean, Thomas, Nicolas, Jean Baptiste Deslauriers, Nicolas Deslauriers, Jeremiah Delorey (my great grandfather who married Elizabeth "Eliza" Deslauriers), and my grandmother Annie Jane DeLorey who married my grandfather Peter Ambrose Fougere in Tracardie NS. Jeremiah and Eliza came to the US and lived in Weymouth Landing. Jeremiah returned to NS around the time of the depression perhaps with other sons or possibly brothers. I think Eliza died in the US, I am trying to find out. My father Norbert Frazier, son of Annie Jane Delorey and Peter Ambrose Fougere, was born in the US. He used to visit DeCoste cousins in Antigonish. I am trying to get straight how many brothers and sisters my grandmother Annie Jane had. There seems to be conflicting information. I also wonder if I have any DeCoste, DeLorey or Fougere cousins in NS. I am collecting as much information as I can from my Aunt and Uncle. If anyone is interested in this branch I would be glad to share.

I have had lots of fun going over your information. I am actually looking for an ancestor named Justine Roy who married Timothee Fougere...produced Helene (Ellen) who married Laurence Landry...produced Jessie who marries Paul DeLorey. Most of this went on in Tracadie, Havre-Boucher NS when the location changes to No. Weymouth, Mass. I will be happy share these trees with you as well as the pictures that are contained in the book which I have. If you havn't already received this information from one or the other of my siblings or cousins. There were only about 25 of these books published so it might be new information for you.
Anxious to hear from you Pauline

I can't believe what I'm seeing. This could turn into a really long "comment" so I'll try to control myself. To be to the point, my Grandmother (mother's mother) was Gertrude Delorey...(now I'm crying). I can't believe I just saw her name on the internet!!! She was the daughter of Moses Delorey and Mariah Elizabeth Delorey. This site is amazing and has blown my mind! My Mom, had done a lot of research and had traces her mother back to Martial Deslauriers, and her father (Norman Boudreau) back to Michel Boudrot. In the last two days I've typed these names into the internet and have been just floored with all the info out there on these families. Bless you for this incredible site, this kind of preservation is precious. I will now consult with my family about making it to Tracadie in 2004!

My mother is Emma Fraser "Delorey" who still resides in Tracadie. I grew up in Tracadie and go home every year to visit.

I received this link from Paul Delorey, formerly president of Jansport in Appleton, Wisconsin. Thanks so much for putting all of this together. I can't wait to get into it. My research indicates that the DesLaurier line from which I spring came through Nicholas DesLaurier who emigrated to Tracadie from Brittany, France. My great grandfather, Michael Delorey, emigrated to the U.S., and settled in Weymouth, Massachusetts. I grew up in Hingham, Massachusetts, next door to Weymouth. My current address is N6376 Cedar Lane, Lake Mills, Wisconsin 53551.

I just found this site this morning, and have just begun looking it over. We are certainly cousins a few generations back. Our branch of the Delorey family tree is also traced back to the french soldier Jacquet dit DesLauriers. My great grandfather emmigrated to the U.S. from Antigonish. My grandfather, George Delorey, was raised speaking French and he married Mirilda Boulanger from Quebec. My father, Donald Delorey, was born in Salem, MA on Feb 18, 1916. (Dad was an Army Ranger and one of the most decorated American soldiers in WWII.) I look forward to looking at the rest of your site, and will send more information and links to our part of the family if you are interested.

Hello Mary,
You have a fabulous page! Love the layout and the content as well. I have just started to create a home page of my own
and you have given me many excellent ideas. It is simple, crisp, and effective.
As to family geneology, most of what I know about my Delorey ancestory has been provided by older cousins. My Grandfather was William Delorey. I have some wonderful pictures of his wife and extended family from circa 1924 That I intend to put up on my site in due time. (http://www.uarr.org/~prandall/relations/d0001/g0000242.html#I4866). I Also have a wedding picture of Joseph Delorey and Martha Grant. I will get that scanned and post it as well.

He was supposed to be born 31 May 1874 died 23 July 1938. Any help in this matter most appericated.
