John Saunders (Pvt NC continental Line) was killed "enroute to their ade" (think battle of Charleston SC of May 1780) in spring 1780. WHERE WAS HE ACTUALLY KILLED?? His wife Susannah Saunders is mentioned in famous Leaksville, NC letter of 1802. Their son Robert substituted for the crippled Thomas Hopper at Guildford Courthouse.

Comments:
I writing with regard to 1st Lieutenant James Craven of the 1st North Carolina Regiment. He served in Captain Hogg's company. He was at Valley Forge according to the Valley Forge muster rolls. He served in the Continental Army from 1777 to Nov. 20, 1779. He rose through the ranks from ensign to 2nd Lieutenant to 1st Lieutenant.
However, your records indicate he was dismissed from service on Nov. 20, 1779 and other records say he was dishonorably discharged.

I'm trying to find out why he was dishonorably discharged.

He apparently was promoted twice and survived Valley Forge and yet after almost 3 years of service he was dismissed dishonorably and it leaves me scratching my head as to why.

I don't know how closely we are related but there have been at least 4 James Craven's in my immediate family, including my grandfather, my uncle, my first and my second cousins. So there may be some relation there.

Would you be able to help me find out how it was that Lt. James Craven of the 1st North Carolina Regiment under Capt. Hogg was dishonorably discharged.

Lt. James Craven's Id # is given as NC25192 if that is of any help.

John Craven

I am now writing a book about David Fanning's exploits. If you are in the area, maybe we could meet and discuss live in the 1780s.

Hello
My 5th great grandfather William Haynie was born in Caswell County, NC in 1753 and fought in the continetal line.
he was at Eutaw Springs, Savannah, Stono Ferry, Camden, Cowpens, Guilford Court.
He fought under Captains James Bradley (I believe who was his brother in law as he married Anne Bradley) William Sandy, Cols Hal Dixon and William Moore.
He acived the rank of Liuetenat and Adjutant.
After the was he moved to Tennesse where he died in 1826. He is buried in an unmarked grave in the Haynie Cemetery registered as #314 in the Tenn registry of Cemeteries North of the Cumberland River.
I am a member of the TNSSAR Stephen-Holston Chapter in Knoxville
I only found out about all this after I moved to TN from NY and have obtained a headstone marker (from the VA) for my ancestor which will be placed in the cemetery with an SAR color guard ceremony on 6/5/2010.
I am writing this note becasue I cannot find William Haynie in your registry and would like to have him added.
You might also want to have a photo of the headstone.
He is registered in the National Archives and his pension number is 7693, as obtained by his wife.

Thank you for your consideration

Compared with todays weaponry, I am curious about how our militia in 1700s managed. Where did they get their ammunition, how did they manage to carry it ?
How fast could they fire when engaged in battle ?
I read somewhere that 3 shots per minute was tops. But how many shots overall could be fired in a battle ?

As an example how many shots in total might have been fired in the entire battle at Kings Mountain ? Or the Battle of Waxhaws ?

Any help anyone ?

I'm looking for more infomation on a John Simmons b. 12-1-1752 in Bertie Co. NC. He enlisted 4 times from Guilford and Rockingham Co. NC from 1776 until 1881. He fought under Gen. Rutherford, Col. James Martin, Col. John Paisley and Captains Buster and Glen. I have a copy of his pension but I'm looking for maybe some of the persons who may have fought with him and moved to Grainger Co. Tn with him in March of 1801. There is a report that he may have been one of six brothers who fought in the War, not neccessary together. One brother Isham fought about the same time as he did but apparently in different companies. It is said that maybe one of the six died during the war. I would appreciate any help finding more info on him.

One of my GGGGGrandmothers was hanged on her farm by
Tories for not divulging the whereabouts of her husband
& his group gathering in the woods to fight against the
British. Does anyone know of any document verifications?

Do you have any of the "Sampao-Duplin Revolutionary War
Soldiers" remaining.
I have enough information to get by.
I plan to visit Winson-Salem later this year, would it be worth the time to go to Duplin? Not sure what part of the county that they lived in.

Thanks for the help.
