Searching for... Family of Samuel Heaton
date(s) 1810 +
place Pemberton, Wigan
Comments:
I'm a descendant of Samuel Heaton born in Pemberton in 1824. His father was Henry Heaton.
Samuel joined the military in 1840, served in the UK and then in Canada. He was courts martialled in Chambly, Canada and sentenced to 10 years transportation to Australia. He arrived in Moreton Bay (Brisbane, Qld) in 1849.
There are some 1800 descendants in Australia fro Samuel.
I am writing his story and am seeking information of his family in the UK in the early 1800's onwards.
Thank you in anticipation
Mary-Ann Wheatley

Was truly delighted to come across this site. Up until approx' two years ago I was the proud holder of a copperplate engraving of the Heaton family crest, complete with shield with the bull's head sitting atop a crown, atop of what appears to be a belt/sash encircling the shield complete with six bull's heads, two lion's (?) heads, six fleur-de-lis (?), and a scalloped bend. Sadly I no longer have the copperplate, however I still retain photographs of the protective paper wrap (with print imprssion)in which the plate was contained. I also have an 8 by 10 photo of an ad' for the Wm. Heaton and Sons Mills at Lostock Junction near Bolton. If you would desire photo-copies of either, please let me know of a suitable mailing address so that I might mail them to you at no charge. Respectfully, DFH.

Hello
I have after many years, decided to locate my birth father Adrian Heaton. I have no details of him, except he was married for a short time to my mother Barbara - nee Brook previously from Suffolk. Her father was a baker,Victor Hugo & mother was a cleaner in a hospital Doris Mabel. Siblings Francis, Keith & Graham.
My only contact with the Heatons is through a 5th cousin of 86 yrs with little memory of our family connection. We both reside in Queensland Australia, His name is James Tyson.
Any useful information to help me connect with this lost side of my ancestry would be highly regarded.

Respectfully - Nicola Swainston - (Nicola Louise Heaton - 14th March 1966, born in Aylesbury Buckinghamshire.)

I think that this is site is great. We (my family) have wanted to do this for a long time and now it looks possible. All we know is that my grandfather, Robert Heaton) had a brother (Jack) who moved to Melbourne in the 50`s, and my grandad lived in Radcliffe, where he died also, he was born in Cork Ireland 11th April 1913, or thats the day he celebrated, Jack and Robert were orphans. The rest of my family still live in the Radcliffe area.

Keep up the good work, the site is great!

place Lostock Junction, near Bolton
Comments:
William Heaton was head of William Heaton and Sons Ltd Cotton Spinners of Lostock Junction near Bolton. William Heaton died aged 68 years leaving an estate of 500,000 plus pounds to his five children of which death duties took a part according to a newspaper scrap I have from 1910? - 1930? He probably had a son Joseph R Heaton who followed in his footsteps in the firm and Joseph was about 65 late in the Second World War. Somewhere close on his family tree are a Kate Heaton and a Maud Heaton both around 65 post WW2?? Also close on his family tree is one Elizbeth Heaton who firstly married Robert Hilton say around 1895 and secondly on R H Brown. Elizabeth and Robert Hilton's child is my grandmother Ethel.

There is a little more that I know but I'll leave my query at this level of detail for now. How these various people are linked is what intrigues me.

Roger Heaton Druce, Melbourne Australia.
