Well...It sure is nice to see a web site about home. Woodstick NB! Growing up in Woodstock certainly was fun. It's a nice, safe place to live. Most people are polite, honest and respectful of others which is a trait had to fine in today's society. I still visit home a few times a year and it's always nice to see familiar faces and go to familiar places. I moved to the Miramichi to persue my carreer in law enforcement after the old Woodstock Jail closed...but who knows...maybe someday I'll come home to retire.

Did your ancestors settle in county? My ancestors were loyalists who left New York during the end of the American Revolution in 1784
Do you have ancestors still living in county? My ancestors settled along the Saint John River in Lower Woodstock (River Road) where we are still settled today.
Comments:
I am a descendant of Benjamin Peck Griffith who settled in Lower Woodstock around 1784. Benjamin was my GGGG Grandfather. Because of his position with the British army and his loyalty to Britain this would lead to his removal from New York. Since the Americans won the war him and his family were forced to leave their home. They were given a few locations to chose from to relocate. Carleton County would be their choice. They packed up a few of their possessions such as silver and dishes and began their journey North.
In Woodstock Benjamin was appointed justice of the peace while his son took on the responsibilty of farming.

Did your ancestors settle in county? Yes, in Woodstock, Grafton, East Newbridge, Bloomfield, etc.
Do you have ancestors still living in county? Yes. Most of my family is still there.
Comments:
I lived most of my life in Woodstock. I came to North Carolina in 1998 to teach and met my husband here. We have been able to find info. on my Stokoe, Ingraham, Porter, Price, Boyer ancestors, etc., but have hit a brick wall when it comes to my Smith family. All I know is that my great grandparents Henry (Harry) Smith and Louise Caroline Milner came from England as children. They were married in Carleton County and had 4 children (my granfather was Norman Smith). They were both born around 1890 and I think Henry was taken in (or worked for) by a family named Stewart. Louise worked for many years for a Webb family in the area also from England. If anyone has info. on any of these people I would sure appreciate it. I want to pass on good family records to my son who will grow up in the U.S.
Thanks.

Did your ancestors settle in county? George McLeod originally Queens to Carleton 1862
Do you have ancestors still living in county? Don't know
Comments:
Hi Bunni Haslerud, I am a descendant of George McLeod by his first wife (I think she's his first wife) Mary Matilda Cox. They had 6 children, Donald 1851, Annie 1853, Richard 1855, Scott Wood (my gr grandfather) 1859, George 1861, and Hedley (Hadley, not sure of name) 1862. I'm assuming she died having the last child as she died the same dates. Only recently did I find he remarried a Rebecca and had a few more children.
I have been working on who I think is his father, so any info you have would be great. Not having much luck on my end.
Hope to hear from you soon.

Please advise. I also have a family website if you would like the address.

I had thought maybe that his family (parents & sibblings) might have moved to N.B. I was unable to find any of his family (for the exception of his brother) in the Victoria County area. Do you have any info on this case?
Tuesday June 26, 2001 NEW BRUNSWICK Last Updated: 05:22 AM

20 years later, former Shediac officer still struggles with being shot
AMY WHEATON Telegraph-Journal

In 1981, Shediac Police Const. Clarence Bourque was shot five times and left
to die outside Louis J. Robichaud High School, while his assailant stole the
police cruiser and fled the scene.
Twenty years later, Mr. Bourque is still trying to understand why the case
hasn't been solved and is attempting to re-establish a stable, trusting
life.
While working an unscheduled double shift on June 2, 1981, Mr. Bourque
arrested an intoxicated pedestrian near the high school. When he attempted
to put the man in the police car, a scuffle resulted.
The attacker seized Mr. Bourque's revolver and shot him five times at point
blank range. He then took off in the police car with the roof lights
flashing. The vehicle was found the next day partially submerged about five
kilometres east of Shediac, but the attacker remains unknown and the case
unsolved and open.
While the physical wounds may have healed, 20 years has done little to help
ease the emotional damage Mr. Bourque has endured since that warm June
evening.
"It has altered the way in which I do things and my ability to trust," he
says, "damaged me physically, emotionally, and has scarred me very severely.
The most obvious difficulties still remain, the ability to trust anyone in
authority, even my pastor. Relationships with others are strained and short
term."
He feels there is a conspiracy of silence surrounding the incident, saying
there has been no progress made in the case since 1981. Two reviews have
been completed and a third is continuing.
"Just after I was shot I began to complain about the lack of action on this
case and that they were looking in directions that would not resolve the
case, almost like they were doing this deliberately, and I told all the
investigators, from the beginning in my private room in the hospital, why I
believed I was shot," he explained. "But they refused to take my concerns
seriously."
He suspects there may have been a police connection to his shooting.
Mr. Bourque said a number of details about the incident have convinced him
the case was not handled in the proper manner. He said police procedures
weren't followed and believes an effort was made to keep the case dormant
and unsolved.
Mr. Bourque, 46, now resides in Whitby, Ont., near Toronto, in a home he
built himself. He lives with his partner, Cindy Shrubsole, a registered
nurse, and two pit bulls. He doesn't know if he'll ever be able to return to
his home province to live, but he comes back almost every summer for a
vacation.
"There are times that I miss the province of New Brunswick and my family but
I cannot see how I could ever return there to live and begin where I left
off," he said.
Currently unemployed, he takes every available opportunity to share his
Christian testimony with others and is a devout believer in God.
"He deals with the impossible and makes it possible," Mr. Bourque said. "I
consider myself to be blessed and through an act of nothing short of a
miracle, I am here today. When men wanted me dead, God had a plan and it
will prevail. My faith is strong and I will see justice one day."
Mr. Bourque would like to hear from anyone who has any information related
to the case. His e-mail address is cub12@hotmail.com
and his Web site address is
www.geocities.com/TheTropics/Beach/5002/
. He is offering a $2,000
reward for anyone with information that leads to an arrest.

My Great-Great Grandfather -TIMOTHY READY- immigrated from Ireland (date unknown). First date I can ascertain of his presence in Canada is his marriage on 27-April-1836 at St. Malachy's (R.C.) Church in Saint John, N.B. where the entry in the Sacramental Record book states he was a resident of the Parish of Wakefield.
His first child -JAMES READY- was born in FEB. 1837 in either Grand Bay of Fairville, N.B. By 1850 his family were residing in Fairville.
I am curious as to what would draw an Irish immigrant who, presumably, arrived through the port of Saint John so far up-country.
Congratulations on a first rate site. Your links make it very easy to navigate.

My grandfather was Guy Elbridge Alterton, born in Carleton county, in 1886. He was the son of Ansley Alterton. From some research a person has done and emailed to me, William and Anne Alterton (my great-great-great grandparents) arrived in New Brunswick in July 1817 from Ely, Chambridgeshire, England.

My grandfather moved to Boston, and then to California sometime around 1920. My father was born in San Francisco in 1926, and I was likewise born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area in 1951. I live with my family some 65 miles northeast of San Francisco.

I'd certainly enjoy making contact with distant, or not-so-distant relatives from the Alterton family.

MARR
Who was the wife of Alexander Marr, Smiths Creek, Kings Co., New Brunswick 1795 > and where is she buried? One account says Esther Job (Jobe/Jobes) Deed (Dee/Dees). I'd estimate her dates to be 1765-1850. In old age she may have joined family in another county, having been interred there. There is record of an Esther Marr receiving a Revolutionar War soldier widow's pension, Kings Co. 1841-1842, no further information. Alexander, a veteran of the 42nd. Highland Regiment, died at Smiths Creek 1829. Any clue, however remote, appreciated.

I'm curious to learn the manner of death of Captain Peter Clinch and his wife, Lucretia (Handy?), as I see they died just one day apart, July 30 and 31, 1816. I'd be grateful if someone can direct me to the proper place for help. Many Thanks!

My ancestors lived in Mount Pleasant on the Clark farm.
My father is Paul Parmer Clarke, son of Lorenzo Parmer Clark and Louisa Burke. He was the son of Darius Burtt Clark and Mary Ann Lewin.
My Mother is Elzena Winnifred Burlock, daughter of George Wallace Burlock Jr. and Lena Flora Tompkins, the livied on the Burlock farm in Bannon. His father was George Wallace Burlock Sr. and Victoria Adaline (Peed) Hanning (widow.
I have extensive information on the Burlock family but very little on the Clark family befor Darius as I do not have his birth date or if born in Canada or Scotland.
I know part of my fathers family was registered with the family name spelled Clark and the rest as Clarke.
We moved to Ontario in 1950.

I was tring to search for information about my grandparents and my great-grandparents. I cannot seem to find birth certificates for Helen (Flanagan) Baird nor for Guy Baird. I believe that Guy was born in 1903; although, I'm not entirely sure on that. I have no idea when Helen was born. I do not have either persons parents names. I do remember my mother saying that my great-grandparents (Helen's parents) had a store underneath their house when she was little. I don't know if they owned it or not. Both Guy and Helen are from River de Chute/ Perth-Andover area.
I remember my grandmother(Helen) telling me that her family had land on the border. (Perth-Andover to Fort Fairfield).
I do know that at some point along our family lines I am a descendant of Col. John Baird. I need the rest of holes filled in as I have no idea who married who, when and who the children are so that I can at least trace to the first in our family to have arrived to Canada.
My mother's name is Linda Muriel Parker (Daughter of Guy and Helen Baird).

Do you have ancestors still living in county? don't know
Comments:
In the 1860's James Bell of Richmond ,Carelton co. New Brunswick travelled west to B.C.seeking his fortune in the Gold Rush . In those days they took a ship from New York down to the Isthmus of Pananma where they then travelled by train across and took another ship from SanFrancisco to Victoria ,British Columbia .
He mined gold near Barkerville B.C. and made a lot of money. He travelled back to New Brunswick with tales of the fortunes to be made in B.C. He married Olive Hillman Debeck on the trip home and brought her back to B.C. with him. The oldest boys came with Olive and James and the rest of the family, George ,Eliza, and the younger children followed in 1868 .Mary Ann the oldest daughter was the only child to remain in N.B. with her husband Samuel Yerxa. The Debecks had been in the lumber business in New Brunswick ,but times had been hard and their lumber mill had recently been burned down In B.C. they worked in the lumber business .and left the gold rush to James Bell. George Sr. was killed at Burrard Inlet in 1870 in a logging accident. his sons George ,Howard ,Warren and Clarence went on to establish the Brunette sawmill in Sapperton B.C. . Eliza (Dow) Debeck lived to be 102 , an event which even made the papers in New Brunswick .Many descendants of George and Eliza's large family still live in B.C. today.

I really enjoy your NB Web sight. I am a GGGGgrand daughter of Samuel Barker and of John Armour from Upper Kent. Love to visit the old Wharton House when ever I get back there. This is my fathers side of the family.
My mothers side is the Harry and Lucy Grants from Northampton. The Grants I have done real well on, but the Bryant side has me lost. George Bryant died in 1911 in a log accident on the St. John River. The family had just came over from England. His wifes name was annie Pullinger Bryant. So the search is on.
Keep up the great work. I will keep visiting.
Thank You.
